We believe this issues started on April 19. We apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this has caused for people. The CAPTCHA system has been updated and anyone attempting to validate a new account or change their email address should now be able to do so.

We're recruiting! [pending]red_1455458400[/pending] The Tip.It Monster Hunting Team is hunting for some new, active recruits! After a bit of a hiatus, the Tip.It Monster Hunting Team is once again running events, hunting down the biggest and baddest monsters in RuneScape, and the team is looking for some fresh blood to help out. If you are interested in being part of the TMHT and helping to run our monster hunting events, please keep reading to learn more about the team, what we expect, and how to apply! About the Team The Tip.It Monster Hunting Team (TMHT) is not just about going on monster hunts; it's about leading monster hunts. Our team members are experts on monster hunting! They take leadership positions and help lead attendees on the hunt! We decide which events to put on, we work out all the details, and then we lead people during the event itself. Requirements to Apply If you're thinking about applying to join the team - that's AWESOME! Here's a list of requirements you have to meet in order to be considered: You must be P2P.You must have a high combat level. You must be knowledgeable about monster hunting (ideally not limited to just one boss). You must be a natural leader and be comfortable giving instructions. You must be a team player. You must have a Tip.It Forum account and check the forum regularly.Ideally you will have attended TMHT events before, but this is not a requirement. It is much more important to us that those who apply are adequate leaders and can successfully run events with large numbers of attendees than it is that those who apply are experienced monster hunters. Bossing techniques can be taught; leadership and dedication cannot. How to Apply Still with us? The next step is to fill out and submit your application. Applications will be read by the entire TMHT. We will review all of them equally and fairly, and choose the best of the bunch to join our ranks! If you're not accepted, don't worry! You can still attend our events and there might be a chance that you'll be able to join the team at a later date. :) Fill out the below application and PM it to @Randox with the subject line TMHT Application APPLICATION DEADLINE: 14th February 2016 (11:59pm GMT) [hide=Application - Read Only] General Information: Tip.It Forum Name: Link to Forum Profile: RuneScape Name: Please attach a dynamic stat signature to display your RuneScape Stats ( http://www.tip.it/runescape/?dynamic ): Your Qualifications: What time zone do you live in? For the first time, we opened the website team to newly registered users. After-all, how many of us used Tip.It, the calculators and guides, long before registering here? How many reading this still do? We needed a team who were familiar with our main website, not necessarily our forums - the two being run by two completely separate teams. Meet Your Junior Crewbies This was one the most successful recrewtment drives we've had in years. We've received, and still are, much more applications then we were expecting. This is fantastic! We're very proud to have so many of you who are eager to help! You may have seen more purple members springing around the forums. So without further ado, I'd like to introduce your new Junior Crew!@doelling@ElysianWolf@INK@Teemupets@thumperjayThe members above have all spent the past week(s) getting familiar with our procedures, participating in Crew activities and assignments, and taking part in staff chat. They've all shown great potential and we're very happy to have them on-board and hope to, someday, see them climb the ranks to Website Crew. Though, there's more of them coming. ;). It's Not Over If you'd like to join the website team, don't hesitate to get in touch with myself or @Stev! Unlike various other staff positions, the Junior Crew will always be open to new recruits! We look forward to hearing from you!

New Position: Junior Crewbie!

https://forum.tip.it/topic/328583-new-position-junior-crewbie/?do=findComment&comment=5552592

Junior Crewbie Recruitment
As you may (or may not!) know, the information on all of Tip.It's pages is maintained by a group of dedicated volunteers known collectively as the Tip.It Website Crew. If you've seen them around our forum, you may have recognized the purple names. This small group of people is entirely responsible for all the content on the site, from making sure skill guides are up-to-date to adding and collecting information on when items in the game are released to tracking down changes that may not entirely be covered in the Patch Notes. If you haven't gotten the jist of it, it is a lot of stuff to keep up with, and we could use some help. And that, dear reader, is where you can come in!

We are excited to announce, as of today, a new opportunity to help contribute to our site as a Junior Crewbie! This is a new site position we are going to be offering. What is expected and what are the benefits of being a Junior Crewbie you ask?Unlike other staff positions, this time new members are welcome to apply, even if you are reading this and don't currently have a forum account! You need to make one though obviously for us to grant access to a forum that isn't public. All we ask is that you have some free time and are willing to be able to commit on a weekly basis.A somewhat lower time commitment compared to regular Crew, say ~3 to 5 hours/week. You still need to put in a few hours a week to help gather information, and we expect you to be active in chat when you're around, but most of it will focus on obtaining information rather than the sometimes more arduous job of coding it in.Junior Crewbies will have access to a staff forum and a Skype chat to get a feel for what goes on in Crew. You can see people collaborating, help out yourself, ask questions, and even just hang out during down time. We're cool like that :shades: .You will be able to help Tip.It in an official capacity and become a trusted source of information, instead of being restricted to submitting information through the website corrections section. You will be given assignments weekly and after a few weeks, given your official color and rank title assuming everything goes well.Junior Crewbies are not given privileges to access our system and write code, so you should not be expecting this. This position will however serve as a recruitment pool for those who may be interested in advancing to full crew work, should you be interested. There are some things that are absolutely necessary for this position; they are:Tip.It Forum account. You need to make an account with TIF to apply of course, and you'll be expected to check up on assignments weekly.Activity. There are two facets to activity:Generally being available. Most weeks, you should be free to do stuff. Simple right?Clear communication of when you're unavailable. This is frequently glossed over, but is just as important.Skype account. We work closely together in Skype. You need to have or make an account there. We use Skype as an instant messenger; there is no obligation to use voice chat functions. You'll notice that I haven't mentioned anything about RuneScape stats thus far. Having found this forum post and assuming you still play or are willing to keep up with or investigate content, that is probably enough. You don't need to be a god in stats to help out Tip.It. After all, if you had already finished all the quests, you wouldn't be able to test whether ancient bones awarded from Restless Ghost stack with bonuses (for example). So if doing research on items and other stuff appeals to you, this is definitely an opportunity that you'll want to take advantage of!

If you're still reading and this has piqued your interest, great! We'll need the following information from you. We are not running this on a first-come first-serve basis, so please take your time to fill out a few questions thoroughly and accurately. This is as much for us to learn about you and see if there is stuff you would enjoy doing - we're not judging you on stats or anything.

Please copy and paste the application into your Personal Messenger, fill it out there, and address it to Staff_Applications. We look forward to reviewing your application and hope to work with you in the future!

New Deputy Crew Leader: Arceus

https://forum.tip.it/topic/328425-new-deputy-crew-leader-arceus/?do=findComment&comment=5550097

Arceus has been doing some great work for this site as a crewbie in addition to being a moderator, and it gives me great pleasure to announce that Arceus will be taking on the position of Deputy Crew Leader in addition to his moderator duties, and ease some of the workload that Stev has taken on as leader of both the moderator and crew teams. Stev will be maintaining his position, and will continue to work on technical projects and provide guidance to the crew. Sure, I can sit here and tell you that being on Crew is a breeze. Truth is, it's not! It takes work. It takes research. It takes dedication. Most of all, it takes time. Many apply, try it for a few weeks and decide it's not for them. Y'know what? That's fine! As Alfred Tennyson put it, "It’s better to have tried and failed than to live life wondering what would’ve happened if I had tried" Even if you're thinking, "I'd like to... But they'd never accept me." Apply!. Now that we've got that out of the way, you're probably thinking, "Then why would I join?" Being on Tip.It's Crew is incredibly rewarding. Apart from making some of the best (online) friends around and getting to chill with the rest of the staff, you'll see you content used and appreciated by countless players. On top of that, it's a great learning experience. We have had Crew who join with little to no knowledge of CSS, HTML, JavaScript, and our other tools. Those people are now creating some of the best looking pages we've seen here on Tip.It! Tip.It is evolving. Recently, we've been putting a lot of time into developing plugins and tools to improve the look and feel of our pages. You've likely seen some of our interactive ability bars, sleek looking tabs, and embedded and interactive world maps - to name a few. It's time we start really putting these to use, and for that, we need your help! Where Do You Fit In Being Crew is not always writing guides. It's not only updating items. We have many options and areas for people to explore. These positions can primarily be split into: » Bestiary Editor » Calculator Editor » Guides Editor » Items Database Editor » Maps Editor » Monster Hunter Guide Editor » NPC Editor » Quest Editor » Treasure Trails Guide Editor We can assign Crewbies to one, a few, or even all of them! Some of us like to focus on maps, others like to mix things up, which is great! So if you see one of more area in which you'd be interested, don't hesitate to apply! What's The Catch Tips.It is dedicated to professional and quality content. For this reason, we do have a few recommendations. Please note that the list below are not requirements: » A high in-game combat or overall level. » A decent knowledge of RuneScape lore. » A RuneScape member. » Ability to complete both high and low level quests. » Access to high level equipment and wealth. » Decent spelling and grammar. » Excellent research skills. » Experience with Photoshop. » Knowledge of CSS, HTML, JavaScript, and jQuery. Crewbies run under a tight schedule. Do not expect to apply and be made purple immediately after being accepted. We have unique tools for updating our databases and pages - ones which require training a training period. Trainees will have to complete guides, database entries, and other tasks just as other Crewbies are. Once we believe that you are ready, we'll publicly announce you, your training period will end, and you'll be granted access to a wider range of content and tools here on Tip.It. Sign Me Up I'm going to hope that by the fact that you've made it this far, that you're interested. Great! Too apply, you'll need to fill out the application below to @Staff_Applications a private message. To do that, simply click here. Please make the subject Crew Applicaiton: <your name here>. About The Editorial Panel The Editorial Panel is a group of people composed of authors and editors. Together, we work to produce a weekly publication called the Tip.It Times, and we are recruiting! Do you enjoy discussing and debating RuneScape-related topics in General Discussion? Do you have strong opinions about RuneScape updates? Do you enjoy writing fictional stories? Or do you have impeccable grammar and spelling skills? If you can answer "yes" to one of the above, a job with the Editorial Panel may be just the thing for you! You don't have to be an incredible writer to join the team because our editors will proofread your articles for spelling, grammar, organization and flow. We're looking for people who can stir discussion, provoke thought and encourage debate. So even if you don't normally find yourself writing articles but often create threads to discuss ideas and issues in General Discussion, this may be the job for you! About The Job This is a volunteer, non-paying job.Authors and editors are typically given an assignment once a month (2-5 weeks notice), for which they must meet their deadline. Authors may select their own article topics.Editorial Panel members' work is published for thousands of users to read, discuss and enjoy. Available Positions There are two positions available in the Editorial Panel: authors and editors. If you have the necessary skills, you could even do both! We are looking to take on new people for each position. Continue reading for descriptions on each role. Authors Authors are responsible for writing editorial or fiction articles for the Tip.It Times. They choose their own topics and work on a deadline to produce their article for a specific publication. They are usually given about 2-5 weeks notice for each deadline. Authors may write about anything they want, as long as it is RuneScape-related and follows a few basic rules (such as appropriateness). Editorial articles should be blog-like, controversial, original, interesting and thought provoking. They reflect your personal opinions (or what you notice that other peoples' opinions are) about RuneScape updates, features or general happenings. Fictional writers create stories that occur in a RuneScape setting. Stories should be engaging, exciting and related to the game. All authors must be able to accept constructive criticism from both their team members before the article is released and from the Tip.it community after the article is published. Word count for articles is flexible, but is expected to be a minimum of about 600 words. Editors Editors are very important parts of the Editorial Panel. They are responsible for reading, editing and commenting on articles before they are published. They review articles for accuracy, quality, spelling and grammatical errors. As such, they are required to have good writing skills and knowledge of grammatical rules. Editors are also encouraged to comment on and critique the content of the article and give suggestions where they see fit. They are also welcome to provide topic suggestions to authors. It's a great place for our users to learn about RuneScape, discuss real life matters, and even interact with the staff that help make Tip.It what it is. No matter what your after - odds are we've got what you're looking for. We've come a long way in the recent months and years. We've added new boards, such as the Community Created Tools, and revised numerous rules and policies. However, we're not about to stop here! What would you like to see changed with the Tip.It Forum? What boards would you like to see added or removed? What rules would you like to see changed, laxed, or enforced? If we could, in any way, make your stay more enjoyable - how could we? What features would you like to see added? These are the types or questions we'd like answers to! We are open to any feedback, so please, do not hesitate! Moderator Review The job of a moderator is not always easy. It can require a lot of time, effort, and a natural sense of leadership. For this reason, we very carefully hand-pick each and every moderator - ensuring that they are not only active enough for the job, but can also set an example and become a role-model for our visitors. It is the job of the moderating team to ensure that we provide a friendly, safe, enjoyable, and hassle-free environment. We do this by: Hiding posts which don't abide by our Tip.It Forum Rules.Merge threads to make information easy to find.Split threads with more discussion value.Hide threads which may lead to malicious content.Take action against rule breakers and trouble makers posting such content.Set a good, friendly, and professional example for each of our visitors to follow. We have a strict set of guidelines and policies that each and every moderator must follow. For example, each and every warning, ban, (moderator related) private-message, and hidden post requires that it be filed. Our moderator records are extensive, allowing us to do our job swiftly and accurately. However, we are merely a team of 9 dedicated, engaged, and passionate Tip.It forum members. We are very diverse; each and every one having our own set of values, beliefs, and ideas. However, we are not perfect, nor do we have all the right ideas. It is for this reason that we're looking to you! We are here for you. If you're not enjoying your stay here on the Tip.It Forums, then we're not doing our job. That said, we'd like to hear a few things from you! What would you like to see changed about the moderating team? Perhaps you'd like to see us handle given situations differently. Maybe you like the way a specific moderator handled a situation. Maybe you think the opposite. This is your chance to influence the team to better serve you! We are open to any ideas, suggestions, compliments or complaints! All messages will be considered confidential. When discussed with the moderating team, we will ensure that users remain anonymous unless otherwise requested. Only Administrators and the Mod Leader will see your responses. Sending Feedback Below you will find a response template. This template is optional, so please feel free to send in your responses however you would like to format them. When filling out the survey, please be as honest as you like, don't worry about hurting our feelings. You are welcome to mention specific Staff members or events if you feel it it would be helpful to us, including naming moderators and administrators. We want to know how you truly feel, even if you have negative thoughts, as this is the best way for us to self improve. Please send all your responses to @Randox, who will make them available on a section of the forums reserved for the Administrators and Moderator Leader only. We're recruiting! [pending]red_1408147199[/pending] The Tip.It Monster Hunting Team is hunting for some new, active recruits! If you're interested in being part of this gang of epic monster hunting event leaders, keep reading to learn more about the team, what we expect from members, and how to apply! Here's a list of requirements you have to meet in order to be considered:You must be P2P.You must have a high combat level. It is much more importance to us that those who apply are adequate leaders and can successfully run events with large numbers of attendees than it is that those who apply are experienced monster hunters. Bossing techniques can be taught; leadership and dedication cannot. How to Apply Still with us? Fab! :) Fill out the below application and PM it to @tripsis with the subject line TMHT Application APPLICATION DEADLINE: 15th August 2014 (11:59pm GMT) [hide=Application - Read Only] [/hide] [hide=Application In Code Tags - Copy From Here!] [size=5][b]General Information:[/b][/size]

If you're interested, active, and think you'd make a great moderator, keep reading! What does a moderator do? The most obvious role of a moderator is patrolling the forums to remove inappropriate content and handle user-submitted reports. Moderators lock threads, remove posts, move misplaced threads, issue warnings to users who violate the rules, and our higher ranked moderators also issue bans. But other less obvious roles (but equally important) include continuing to browse the forums as a regular user, being a leader of the community, setting a good example, and participating in private moderator discussions to form new policies, re-evaluating old policies, and working together with the team to make the Tip.It Forum as enjoyable as possible. Do not apply to join the team if you think the role is just about dealing with reports now and then. Trainees will be expected to do that too, but the most important part of the role is being involved in the community, being able to work together as a team, and constantly looking for ways that you can help improve Tip.It. What are we looking for and what do we expect from new candidates?Ultimately, we're looking for new moderators with initiative. We want people with a passion for Tip.It, fresh ideas to bring to the team, and the desire to implement them. If you can think of forum rules you don't like or policies you want changed, that means you have a desire to change things and make them better. Qualities like that make for a good moderator! We need active moderators! We expect our trainees to browse Tip.It on a daily basis. We understand that sometimes you're unavailable due to holidays, vacations, exams, and other reasons, but on a typical day we expect daily participation. We want active and community-involved moderators!Candidates must be confident in a leadership role. We do not immediately expect moderator trainees to lead themselves and function without guidance. We will be there to help you in the beginning! But as the months go on, moderators progress through the ranks and are expected to help train new moderators and answer their questions. Some moderators even go on to become admins, who are the leaders and managers of the entire website and forum! So it's important that moderators are comfortable in working with others and acting as leaders.Being a moderator means you need a good sense of judgement, the ability to make decisions without bias, and a professional attitude. We're not a boring, serious group of people and we do joke around, but it's also important that moderators are professional in their decision-making and in the way that they interact with users in their official capacity (such as issuing warnings).Who can apply?Below are a list of requirements needed to apply:You may not be part of the Tip.It Crew. However, you may apply if you are a member of the Editorial Panel or Tip.It Monster Hunting Team. You must have registered at least 3 months ago and be active in the community. You must have a post count greater than 150.I applied last time and got denied - can I apply again? Or what if I have been warned or banned before? If you applied last time but were unsuccessful, we highly encourage you to apply again if you meet the requirements! We are always re-evaluating our standards and changing what we're looking for in candidates, so even if you were rejected last time, you could be accepted this time! If you're still interested, give it a try! If you have received a warning or ban from a moderator in the past, you are also still welcome to apply. We do not blacklist people who have broken the rules before. If you have broken multiple rules on multiple occasions recently, then yes your chances will go down. But we always keep an open mind. We will consider the severity of the offence(s) and how much time has elapsed since your most recent offence. We promise to be fair and consider everyone. How To Apply If you are interested in applying, fill out the below form and send it in a private message to Staff_Applications with the subject "Moderator Application." Remember, this is your chance at a good first impression! Put some effort into it, don't rush, and make sure you answer every question. We're only looking to accept 2-4 new people so put your best foot forward! A tip: it's usually better to write too much than too little! Good luck! [b]Forum Name: [/b]

Hello, fellow TIFers!
Lately, we at Tip.It have been doing our best to open up to our users. We've begun making our guides more user friendly and interactive. We've added the Community Created Tools board. We're pleased to announce that we've also joined Twitch with an official Tip.It channel!
Players enjoy watching people stream while they play. It kills some of the boredom that can unfortunately come with RuneScape. They also like to watch new content as it's released, people get lucky bossing, or just hanging out to chat.
As you can see on our news feed, and I did some late night bossing last night. Players could watch along right from our homepage without even going to Twitch. A few came and joined us and received some decent loot! It was a lot of fun, we met and spoke to a lot of our users and answered a lot of questions. I short, it was a huge success. We look forward to doing more in the future!
That being said, Tip.It is now owner of the Twitch channel Tip_It! If you have a Twitch account, please take a minute to visit our profile and follow us - that way you'll be notified when ever we go live! Not only will you meet, see, and hear members of the Tip.It staff, you'll also be seeing some guest streams from people you may have heard about! Our Chat Rules
We're not here to babysit you. We know as well as you that that'll only end up pushing our audience away. We expect our users to be mature and use common sense when it comes to our chat. If something is not permitted on our forums, odds are it's not allowed on our stream. So please, take a second to read through our Tip.It Forum Rules.
We can't ask that you not curse. Odds are, the person(s) streaming will slip up from time to time. However, please use moderation. Excess cursing only makes you look childish and pointless vulgarity will not be tolerated. Guest Streaming
If you'd like to guest stream on our channel, be it to boss hunt, skill, or even quest, then check out this forum topic.
We look forward to meeting, seeing, and hearing from you all! Hopefully this channel will help us as staff learn what our members want to see on our website so that we can make things better, more enjoyable, and easier for you! After-all, we want to publish content and tools that you want to see!

New Board - Community Created Tools

https://forum.tip.it/topic/322974-new-board-community-created-tools/?do=findComment&comment=5473775

Today we announce a new Tip.It pilot project and accompanying new board - Community Created Tools!

This new board, as you may be able to guess from the name, is for people to share links to RuneScape tools they have created and uploaded to the internet. I strongly advise reading the How This Board Works sticky, but to summarize:

RuneScape Rules Still Apply - Tip.It will not support programs that violate the RuneScape official rules. Any program found to be in violation of the rules will be denied/removed.

New Topics Are Moderated - New Threads must be approved by a moderator before they become visible, to allow for our approvals process. Once a thread becomes visible, posting works as normal.

Our Vetting Process - In an effort to weed out the bulk of the malware that a project such as this will inevitably attract, all programs will be uploaded to https://www.virustotal.com/ prior to approval. This site uses several Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware programs, and any programing found to flag any of the scanners in use by this site will not be approved. This process is not 100%, and Tip.It makes no claim that a program is safe to download, only that the program has passed this vetting process on the date of the scan.

As an additional measure, all approved topics will have a post by a moderator or administrator reminding users that this is not a 100% process, the results of the scan, and a link to the download. This is done primarily to prevent thread creators from changing the download link after the topic has been approved, and we highly recommend that users download from the moderators post only.

We Encourage Source Code - It is much easier to see that a program is on the up and up if people can see how it works. We will not force users to post their source code, but we strongly encourage that you do.

Again, we cannot guarantee that the programs we allow are safe to use. Right now, this is a pilot project to evaluate the feasibility of allowing this sort of advertising on our forums, as well as gauging community interest in such a program. If this is successful, then we will look at potential changes to our vetting process to make it more thorough. Our aim is to give people who spend time creating legitimate RuneScape tools a place where they can share their programs with the RuneScape community and see their work recognized and used, and to give our users a place to look for such programs with what we hope is the bulk of the malware laden garbage already filtered out.

Please feel free to let us know what you think of the idea and what, if anything, you would like to see us doing differently in regards to this project.

12-Oct-2013 - Forum Downtime (Again)

https://forum.tip.it/topic/321665-12-oct-2013-forum-downtime-again/?do=findComment&comment=5455859

There will be some forum downtime during the morning (UTC) and possibly afternoon as well. I am going to be attempting a conversion of our forum character set from the current one to UTF-8. This should hopefully future proof us and also fix the problems that the RuneScape News bot has been experiencing (multi-posting, weird characters). I will be maintaining a full backup of the old database should anything weird happen to any of the other characters, but this shouldn't happen. The conversion itself will take some time, as every column in every row of every database table needs to be examined and if necessary, converted. This is much like the original process when we converted from phpBB to IPB, in that everything needs to be traversed. That being said, I wrote this character conversion script myself and optimised it to be multi-threaded in order to expedite this transition, and so the time should be far less for the character conversion itself (around 5 hours). However, I may also be potentially moving us to a different server, and if so, this will make the process take a bit longer, this is still undecided, but rest assured we'll be back online ASAP. The forum will be totally unavailable while the conversion is taking place, and you will not even be able to access the offline page.

7-Sep-2013 - Forum Downtime

https://forum.tip.it/topic/321159-7-sep-2013-forum-downtime/?do=findComment&comment=5447846

At some point during UTC day hours (probably before midday UTC) on Saturday 7th September, the forum will be offline for software updates. These updates are likely to take quite some time as we will be performing a large amount of file system restructuring, and so the forum may be offline for up to 6 hours while we do this, although hopefully it will not take that long. We apologise for the inconvenience and will keep you updated if anything changes.
