Wkw
Help. My fan is going crazy. CPU fan to be precise. Computer: HP Pavilion a1620n Mobo: Asus P5LP-LE History: PSU died, I went poking around, took everything off, I removed the thermal heating grease by mistake (but I have since then reapplied more), and bumped a few prongs on my cpu holder so that they are bent, but everything working (online wise) seems fine. Now the CPU fan is going at 3800-4000 rpm, even in BIOS, whilst the cpu temp is around 40C What is wrong? Here is my motherboard http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c00379422 Runescape player since 2005 Ego Sum Deus Quo Malum Caligo et Barathum
OldJoe
4k rpm seems unlikely, most are designed for 600 - 2500. Have you removed the fan cable and attached it again? OldJoe
Damn. Does the fan have pwm control? If so you could set it to use pwm in bios (revving up hotter as it gets). OldJoe
Hm, the bios is reading wrong, if it was at 4k rpm it would sound much worse. My fan at 2.5k sounds worse than yours lol. I have no idea really, if you don't have any options in bios for the fan i have two suggestions. 1: Change the cooler (costs maybe 10 for a standard one). 2: Send it in for repair. Sbrideau
Is your CPU overclocked? edit:Oh, right, you can't overclock on that computer, I basically have the same thing except the AMD Processor.

Makoto_the_Phoenix
It's more than likely that the BIOS is acting insane. What you'll have to do is flash the BIOS. I recommend that you do this with HP's tools for now. Go here, fill out your region, type in the serial number found on the back of your tower, and find a specific BIOS for you to use. Download it, run it, and it should flash successfully, provided that there are no blackouts or sudden losses of power. I wouldn't recommend doing this if your location is prone to power outages, since it would brick your machine. Wkw
I'll check that out when I get home. Looked at it now (at school) and I couldn't find anything about the BIOS. Becides the fact that the school blocks images. I'll give that a shot Runescape player since 2005 Ego Sum Deus Quo Malum Caligo et Barathum
Sbrideau
You won't find it on the website, you have to use the "chat with a technician" thing I think, since the email I sent them (when I wanted to upgrade my BIOS), the answer had nothing to do with what I was asking. I don't know if it's going to be better if you chat with them.
