I can currently buy enough big bones for 95 prayer, or enough dragon bones to get like halfway there. Which variety should I use? If the dragon bones, what should I do to earn the rest of the gp needed? Thanks!

I would go with the big bones. It isn't that slow, and saves a TON of money!
Example : it saves me 70m from 80-95, but it takes 100k more bones...

Dragon bones if you can make more than 500k/h. If not, big bones.

And ironicly enough, you can make over 500k/hr killing green dragons.

Is it really over 500k/hr? I was going to buy the big bones for 95 prayer tomorrow, but if I should wait and get an extra 70m (which would take foreverrrrr)
How many bones can you "sacrifice" per hour at your own poh?

You can get around 1400 per hour with a pack yak at your own altar.
Below are popular methods:
Big bones: 73.5k xp/hour, 901.6k gp/hour
Babydragon bones: 147k xp/hour, 2,464k gp/hour
Dragon bones: 352.8k xp/hour, 7,422.8k gp/hour
If you are trying to get 1m xp, here are the associated costs of each bone type:
Big bones: 13.6 hours, 12.3m
Babydragon bones: 6.8 hours, 16.8m
Dragon bones: 2.8 hours, 21.0m
If you value your time between 0gp and 662k per hour, you should use big bones.
If you value your time between 662k and 1,050k per hour, you should use babydragon bones.
If you value your time at 1,050k per hour or more, you should use dragon bones.
My earlier 500k/h statement proved to be false.

I would advise Dragon Bones. If the point of getting 95 prayer is being able to moss hunt better, earning the cash back won't be difficult.
For example:
I spent ~150M on dragon bones and got piety 2 days ago. I made 50M today. Had I used big bones, I would still probably be altaring them right now, and wouldn't have gotten those two drops.
