wolfmon56
Awhile back I had decided to get a couple prayer & firemaking levels from burning magic pyre logs & Fiyr Shades. After I had finished, I decided that I would so a little study on your chances of getting stuff from burning shades & looting chests. Burning Shades:While Burning shades, I used magic pyre logs & fiyr shades. When burning these you get silver keys.Picture off Tip.it Shade Burning Guide When using the logs & shades I averaged around to do 1 trip (13 logs & shades) in ~2 minutes.I used 6,331 pyre magic logs & Fiyr Shades. From here I started looting the chests. While doing these, I didn't keep a drop-by-drop log, so I didn't keep track of the chances of getting coins, bloods, deaths, yew, and magic logs because you could get those at random amounts WITH the other drops you could get. 1 trip of 22 keys took ~2 minutes 20 seconds Amount Item % Chance of Getting101 rune meds .0204%30 rune longs .0081%56 rune scims .011%29 rune chains .0059%92 rune longs .0186% 219 addy helms .0443%96 addy plates .019%99 addy skirts .02%99 addy legs .02%154 addy kites .031%226 addy squares .045%90 addy chains .018%176 addy warhammers .036%75 addy longs .0152%106 addy 2h .0214%132 addy baxes .0267%356 addy spears (p) .072%321 addy spears .0649% 110 mith bodies .0223%119 mith skirts .0241% 215 black plates .0435%215 black spears .0435% 3975 bloods6307 deaths84 battlestaves .017%122 diamond rings .0247%156 power ammies .032%3,117,787gp682 fine cloth .138%730 yew logs 427 magic logs138 flamtaer hammers .0289% There is also a VERY high chance of getting a clue scroll from looting chests ~1 per 5 trips (22 keys), so I only did clues every so many keys. Grimy_Bunyip
Lots of data here. Very good job :D I'm not sure if I'm actually going make a spreadsheet calculator on shade burning. But if I did, some time, eventually, would you mind if I used your data? Very good job :D I'm not sure if I'm actually going make a spreadsheet calculator on shade burning. But if I did, some time, eventually, would you mind if I used your data? Go right ahead. But you would probably have to go even further into it because of the fact that I didn't take a log each time for coins, runes, logs AND an item that you can get (double loots) and I only did clues every so often so you'd probably have to take time to do it and find out what the % chance of getting those are. Interesting, but what's your conclusion? No conclusion, I just wanted to get percentages for people and they can take whatever they want from it lol

Warlover
Its good to see older content still being used  Would you recommend this method? Also, how long did it take to burn everything? -- 2001 Starter --
wolfmon56
No conclusion, I just wanted to get percentages for people and they can take whatever they want from it lol Oh, how long did this all take you? I took my time (got distracted easily with life, monster hunting, my clan, etc). However I did my last 2.5k keys within 2 weeks (but being distracted alot lol)You can probably burn the amount of logs I had 6.3k and use the keys I had ~5k in about a week if you did it without stopping to do other things. (However I dunno if you'd no life it lol)Pretty much6,331/26 = 243.5 (trips) x 120 secs (a trip) = 29220 secs / 60 seconds = 487 mins / 60 mins = 8.12 hours.5,000/22 = 227.3 (trips) x 200 secs (a trip) = 45,460 secs / 60 seconds = 757.67 mins / 60 mins = 12.63 hoursSo if you did it non-stop, getting the average time per trip that I had, you could theoretically finish burning 6.3k logs and using 5k keys in 20.75 hours. Interesting. How long did it take for the items to buy?Means w77 isn't dead yet...Umm, It took about 2 weeks to buy the 6k pyre logs & fiyr shades. Also, how long did it take to burn everything? For prayer, not really, it's profitable prayer exp, but you can get faster exp & make money other ways. For the firemaking exp, 425 exp per logs is VERY good (unless you have fm brawlers) I looked at it like this.. "It's protfitable prayer & fm exp" Would I recommend it?Well, if your dedicated and want to get prayer & fm exp with profit, Yes I would. However if you think it would take you a long time to burn all the logs & use all the keys (like walking, standing doing nothing, etc while burning or using keys) then probably not because you could have made more profit & exp doing other things. If you can keep the average of 160 seconds per trip burning & 200 seconds a trip using keys, then yes, it is a very good exp/gp method (profitable). Great_one
when you get to the cost portion you only count 3.5k for the cost of burning the shade when really it is 7k, making it still profitable but by very little
Troacctid
Qeltar did a study on shade-burning too, albeit under the assumption that magic pyre logs are unbuyable. http://runescoop.com/html/rs_SkillOptimizationGuidePrayerActivitiesShadesofMort.htm Read my blog | Follow me on Twitter | Track my XP

Either way (as of now) it's still a profitable exp/gp way of training.
