Why can't F2P have...?

Would be counter-productive to make the F2P game appealing, because if they give F2P enough stuff such as bosses (general F2P "end-game" content), then many would choose to remain F2P because it would be fun enough. Or things like making F2P ironman do-able.

Right now, people would subscribe so they have access to that end-game content with bosses and such, or because they want to play ironman without ripping their hair off. Give F2P enough replayability and fun stuff, and a good amount of players who would have went P2P would be content with staying F2P.

Spend money on improving the free game so that people won't feel like they have to pay, basically.

They have to be careful with F2P, though, because if F2P sucks too much, then people won't want to try P2P.

Or maybe, we could have an actual F2P population again!

It's not doing Jagex too many favors when people log on for two hours, try to earn money for a bond, get bored of promotions shoved down their throat, and log back off.

F2P is beyond repair now. They don't even try to focus on it because it's not part of their business model anymore. Their old business model was to keep a robust f2p so they could generate revenue through ads, and by f2p people buying membership. Those were the major sources of revenues. Now, their business model is a premium model where they generate most of the profits from a very small but hardcore customer base who will spend obscene amounts of money on pay2win stuff. As such, they can completely ignore f2p, and they pretty much do.

Seriously though, no one should be playing f2p. Come join the dark side.

I liked their old business model better, although it probably didn't work enough at least it didn't hurt the game, the way they are going now is shortly breaking apart the game. They turn the intrinsically motivated people into extrinsic motivated people, you get your fun not by playing the game, but by looking for rewards from bonus XP weekends, spins, bonus XP etc. For that to work you need to give people a constant source of those things (or make it random like a casino), which can only mean we will see more and more of that stuff...

You can take holiday events as an example, at first it was all for the intrinsic value, a fun little mini-quest with a lot of jokes and a silly reward (still rather have a permanent update though). Now you got to earn XP with it (extrinsic rewards) otherwise people won't do it.

Well if you were an uber-loyal subscriber and never dropped it all these years, you still have the grandfathered rate, right? :P

I pay $7.95 still, instead of $10.25. So I have a grandfather plan..just not as cheap as others. ;)

Dhide and batwings and monk robes should cost the same as runite items... I dont see why not.

:)

D'hides and batwing come from monsters that are relatively easy to kill and have relatively lower requirements to craft into pieces. Ores of course need to be mined and smithed into bars (or are rarer drops). The main kicker, though, is that they have a much lower alchemy price supporting them. The only hope of them being higher would be jacking that way up, but that would wreak havoc on the economy. So...doesn't seem likely.
