Slayer Guide Recruiting. *Updated*

*UPDATE*

I've created a form that goes along with the spread sheet if you would prefer that method of data entry. I've updated the link to the spread sheet and instructions are available on how to use it. I've working on how to set the task location based on the task but for now it has to be entered as text.

*UPDATE*

Hello everyone,

I'm currently working on a slayer guide with some other players and part of what we are doing is collecting data on task frequencies, drops, and effigies. Currently we are working on Kuradal's list, if you are using a different slayer master you can submit data, just make a note of who you are using.

I've created a spreadsheet to aid in the collection of data. it can be found at Slayer Log.

The instructions on how to use it are included in the first sheet. We will be attempting to gather charm rates along with rare drops and effigies, with this I'm not going to limit where you can do tasks I'd just like to have it noted to were you are. Given enough data we should be able to use all points and not limit to certain monsters.

Also, while it is preferred you have no block list, please note if you do and any changes you make to this. With enough data from several members we should be able to account for block lists.

Please let me know if you are going to use the log and I will add you to my list. Ideally once people have 100 or so tasks logged they can send the data to me for compiling. Also, if you have previously been recording data in any other format feel free to send it to me and I will transfer what I can to the new format. You can send me links or share documents to [email protected].

Thank you to everyone for your help, without many users collecting data it will be near impossible for us to come to any sort of conclusions.

I can/will start logging tasks from 93 onwards (when I have all slayer monsters unlocked). I'll give you the data when I have it I guess.

I plan on training Slayer over the next few months to go from 91-99 attack, and 90-95 defense. I created a thread on the Runescape official forums to keep a log, but would be glad to do this instead. I'll get a copy of this now, and send it to you once I've gotten a few levels =)

Hello.

There is no way (without bots) to collect enough data to determine task frequencies within a reasonable confidence range. I know because I wanted the data for a summoning guide/calc. To have confidence in your data, you're looking at 20-30k logged tasks. Oh, and that's without any blocked tasks.

Drops and effigies have already been explored by Vex and Zarfot.

Goodbye.

Edit: I've been talking to some botwriters about them including something that logs task frequency in their scripts and sends the data back to a spreadhseet or something. They want money though and I'm not sure if the data is actually worth that much to me.

There is also the possibility of people who have reached 99 slayer being willing to just sit there and cancel and get new tasks, this would allow you to gather tasks at an exponential rate. Also the more support from people the more data we could gather. 50 people at 200 tasks is 10,000 tasks logged, and that's a very small number of people contributing. Ideally we could reach out to the RS community and have many people contribute, its not hard to keep a log even if you don't want to track charms, the rest is very easy to do.

So if you would be interested in helping I would greatly appreciate it.

Vex attempted to reach out in the past and gave up due to lack of interest/commitment.

Honestly, I'm interested in the data too. I'm just telling you that doing what you're doing won't get you enough data for it to be significant.

I am trying to reach him through several means, however it looks like he may have taken a break from RS and is hard to contact.

Vex quit. Also, 50 people at 200 tasks is 10k tasks logged.

So you would need 150 people at 200 tasks with no blocked tasks.

I don't know how many tasks you would need loged with blocked tasks.

Also, consider that people who record data should be 93 slayer to have access to all tasks and all should be using the same master and all should either have aquanites unlocked, or have them blocked. Anything else would skew the data.

With enough data you can adjust for discrepancies. 150 people logging data would be great and with that we would have a start point for calculations.

I haven't done the math but you would need much, much more data if you wanted to adjust for all those discrepancies. An educated guess would be 100k+ logged tasks depending on how many discrepancies there are.

Edit: That 150 people logging tasks would need to be 93 slayer with no blocked tasks for the data to be any good.

Might as well start now Nifflin, we'll be done that much sooner. Besides, if you can get through to Vex, you can get his + Zarfot's data, and you can pull stuff off the RSOF if it's not to unreliable. There's loads of people logging their tasks out there, you just need to get to them.

No block data isn't so relevant, as nobody slays without blocks. What you want is reasonable block data.

I don't think you understand. If you want the raw frequency then you can't block any tasks.

As soon as people start blocking tasks the data becomes skewed and really difficult to work with. Zarfot and Vex have different tasklists, so of course their frequencies will be different. When people have different slayer levels and tasklists, then it's not as simple as adding all the numbers up.

As for getting a hold of Vex, I would suggest PMing someone who knows his skype like Grimy on the-other-forums.

Edit: No block data is the most relevant because once you have it, then you can determine the task frequencies for any tasklist.

I'm fairly sure I understand perfectly... and I'm sure the raw frequencies don't matter.

I have heard from Vex, who analyzed some data, that blocks change relative task frequencies.

What you're suggesting would require even more data because it would need to be collected for every tasklist.

We don't really know if blocks change relative frequencies or not because Vex didn't really have enough data.

You would need to test it for every task list - but there's not that many viable ones. Also, in this case you'll have to adjust your test to the data available.

If it helps, I have data from my last 1675 Tasks, all from Kuradal (or Duradal / Lapalok before Kuradal came out).

Regrettably, It's only Charm Data & Major drops.

Its in Excel format so probably won't be much good to you. I can list the monsters killed, by total number, & the associated charm drops such as:-

Abby Demon

Killed 34244

Blue Charm 317

Crimson Charm 10688

Green Charm 1620

Gold Charm 2965

Total Charms 15590

Average Charm per Kill 0.4553

Whips 65

For collection, you could just standardize a block list, like Vex's effigyscape recommended blocks. Unless you want the data for all tasks, in which case no blocks should be used.
