Stop decreasing the price of the dragon platelegs.

I don't care if I get banned from this message board and I don't care if I get a warning, this needs to be said.

Dragon platelegs are worth million coins at least. It might be easy for people to kill steel dragons if they know what they're doing and they have the right tools. But it's not easy for everyone. So it's total nonsense that they are now worth the same as the high alchemy value.

Do you have any idea how rare of a drop it is from steel dragons? I have only gotten it once, and I kill a lot of those dragons.

And to make matters worse half of a shield costs a lot less than the other half.

There is absolutely no excuse for the dragon platelegs to be the same price as the high alchemy value. It is a valuable drop. You might as well sell bronze daggers for 50M coins.

The reason why they're not worth a lot is because there is much better armour in the game. It's a shame, but since steel dragons and dragon platelegs were released so long ago, it was only a matter of time before the prices dropped, especially with a game that is comparatively updated such as Runescape.

Less demand = prices go down.

Go learn basic economics of supply and demand. Items are the price they are because of this.

Because these items are so commonplace now, they can no longer command a high price and can be sold for their alchemy value. It's similar to what happened to Dragon med helms/left halves, simply because there are a lot more players killing a lot more monsters, there's a whole bunch more of these items than the market can be bothered to buy.

It'd be nice if items remained at their expensive prices, but due to the way the market and playerbase work, it's not possible.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

This. The dragon platelegs are just reaching the status of being a once elite item turned into something common fodder along with other items like Dragon meds and shields to the point its more convenient alching them on the spot when you see them amongst the pile of bars and bones. Won't be the last item to meet this end, so I think the correct term is "fated".

I honestly wished they stayed their old price myself, but like Gwyn said, it's impossible.

The economy doesn't follow what you, or anyone, think is the "right" price.

I see no reason for platelegs to be worth more than they are. There is no reason to use them other than cosmetic purposes and in the 60-70 defence range, and usefulness determines demand. They are definitely not worth a million coins.

Secondly I'd like to point out that nobody is decreasing the price of dragon platelegs.

From 85-96 slayer, I have had 21 skirt/leg drops.

It's about 200x easier now that you can 4 hit irons with a rapier in kuradels. Instead of when they came out there was no good stab wep/super anti fires and mage was the best option.

Lol, just saw a guy in brimhaven killing iron dragons with a Zammy spear the other day.

Never gotten a dleg/skirt drop but then again I don't slay much..

Alright, maybe a lot of people need those platelegs, but that doesn't change the fact that they're rare drops from very powerful dragons.

I get rune full helm around every 1/100 drops from greater demons, and rune scimitars 1/100 from fire giants and rune bars 1/300 from kalphite guardians.

I have killed around 1,000 of steel dragons (possibly more as I have played for so many years) and have only gotten dragon platelegs once. So it is a rare drop from those dragons.

Also, any monster is easy to kill if you know how to do it. But it doesn't matter how easily you can kill steel dragons they're still very powerful dragons.

You are not getting it, not a lot of people need those legs, a lot of people are selling the legs. It doesn't matter how rare a drop is, if there are more of that item in game then people who want that item they are not going to be paying much for it.

Who do you think is decreasing the price? All the players getting the drops (including you) and trying to sell it.

If you still don't get it:

Lets say there are 10000 dragon platelegs in game.

100 people do want dragon platelegs

Are you as buyer going to pay someone 5M for platelegs if there are 100 other sellers trying to sell the same thing? No you wait till someone sells it for a lower price.

So if I killed 2 steel dragons and got dragon platelegs, it must be a common drop, right? I mean I only had to kill 2 to get one...that's like a 50% droprate.

I've killed many thousands of many different monsters and only ever had like 3 diamonds as drops, therefore diamonds are like the rarest item in game.

I actually agree, uncut diamonds are rare. But it's not the rarest item in RuneScape. I never said that dragon platelegs were the rarest items in the game, I said that they're rare.

I'm sure half of a shield is much rarer than dragon platelegs.

The trouble is you are basing them as being rare PURELY on the fact u have killed 1000 and not had any.

This may signify a rare DROP; but not a rare ITEM.

Thousands of metal dragons are killed daily and they have been in-game since January 05 (aka coming up to 7 years) this means hundreds of thousands if not millions of the item are in circulation of in-game and this number is continually growing. However the item is firmly wedged in a permanent place of marginally better than rune armour but not as good as barrows, bandos and torva which means it has a narrow and limited demand.

The demand for the item is vastly outstriped by supply and therefore it is a very COMMON item and not worth much.

Rare drop =/= Rare item

It may do on the initial release, but in time the supply grows as very few items are ever lost (saved by graves or transfer in pking but never just lost) and thus they progress to being quite common. Give it 7 years and even Torva will be down in the regions of a couple of mil, because as more come into circulation but demand drops off (when better items arrive) and then stays stagnant the supply grows and grows and grows and if supply>demand prices drop.

Are you saying 1000 because it's statistically a correct sample size, or are you saying 1000 just because you killed 1000 steel dragons and therefore by saying 1000 is the qualifying number, you can give yourself authority?

I want you to use that argument with your high school statistics teacher. You can't pull that number out of thin air. You can't rely on just one set of trails. This is why we invented statistical tests.

Part 1: Say I've killed 999 dragons. Someone else has killed 1,000. By your statement, my drop log is irrelevant to the discussion of rare drops, but theirs is relevant. Because they killed 1 dragon extra. You see the problem?

Part 2: He was being sarcastic. He's using your own logic against you - "I've killed lots of this type of monster/all types of monster and I've only gotten this specific drop one or a few times, thus this item MUST be super rare for everyone."

It is getting harder and harder to think that you're not a troll...

I never denied the fact that I'm an idiot, and if I'm a troll, it's unintentional as a troll is someone who intentionally wants negative attention.

Yeah, I will admit that I have done some things on YouTube as well as other websites that's considered trolling legitimately, but I ensure you, that's not the point of this thread.

Yeah, I will admit that, my logic sucks. But why do you feel the need to exaggerate what I said? I never said "super rare" I only said rare.

I should do more research before making a thread like this. And obviously I'm using all the wrong math.

Not....really.

You need to have much bigger samples.

You're admitting to making a stupid thread with a false basis?

To be fair though, I believe Blaze has not played RS in quite a while, iirc he quit playing often a few years ago (save for an occasional update), when dragon platelegs were around 1.7m (is that right?). Imagine coming back years later to find a once rare and valuable item become absolutely worthless, which I expect is quite a shock. Not that I agree with what he says, but I'd just like to point out that he's not a troll, but probably horribly uneducated about the current metagame.

I will admit that I have quit and come back a lot of times before, yes. In fact it happened a lot both this year and last year. And I'm even taking a break from RS now.

But there is one thing I wanna point out, I do know why the item is worth the same as the high alchemy value, I just don't agree with that. Even if I never quit the game and come back, I don't think I would have changed my mind.

Also, I don't care much about updates. I don't care much for dungeoneering and hunting. And I hate the farming and summoning skill. So I don't really care much about the new stuff. I also skipped the halloween event and will skip the christmas events as the items are pointless.

Anyone who has played rs long enough even with no basic grasp of economics should expect "rare" items of yester year to be worthless junk.

It's the way things work.

Black armour was uber expensive once upon a time, then mithril arrived, then addy arrived, then rune arrived, then dragon arrived, then barrows arrived, then bandos arrived, then torva arrived.

It's a basic fact of rs any non-consumable item that can still currently be gotten outside player trading goes down in price, especially when the next best thing is released.
