wioneo Posted May 5, 2014 Share Posted May 5, 2014 I have a HP dv7 4060-us running 64 bit Windows 7 and dxdiag tells me that my graphics card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650.On HP's site for my laptop the most recent graphics driver available is actually somehow older than the one that came installed with my laptop.I tried downloading and installing the newest version from the AMD site. Luckily I made a system restore backup before trying this, because after installation my screen was constantly shaking. I uninstalled everything and system restored back to everything normal. I am assuming I did something wrong here, so what is the right way to go about updating a 4 year old graphics card driver? You say your laptop has newer drivers than the website offers - this would be simple, don't download older drivers. But then you mention it being 4 years old, which would seem contradictory of the earlier statement given that the website offers drivers dated 25th April 2014. Also the website clearly states: " If you experience difficulty while using the generic AMD Catalyst Mobility drivers, we recommend reverting to the driver provided by your notebook vendor. Please contact your notebook vendor for their most recent graphics drivers." This would suggest since you ARE having trouble with the generic drivers you SHOULD revert to the driver provided by your notebook vendor, which is what you have done - it also then suggests checking with the provider. My conclusion before posting was that I had done something wrong. If this was not the case, then the answer to the question is "you can't."
