Hellow guys problem here:

Each time when I want to loggin on RS my pc crashes. I had this problem a few years ago, which forced me to quit playing RS.
Last year, I bought a new graphics card (gtx 660) and thought it might solve the problem. Well, in fact, it got worse.
Back then, it randomly crashed when I was playing. Might been after 30 minutes or 10 hours. Now my pc crashes each time after I logged in.
So I am at the screen where I can choose the servers etc, press on play and it crashes…

Get a Bluescreen each time:

Strange is, my pc has no problems with some heavy demanding games like Battlefield, crysis3 or Metro LL but crashes each time with RS. Stres-tested it, no crashes...

Specs of my pc:

http://speccy.piriform.com/results/Fa8pQzmA2QBhN7QOYwKVZcd

Don’t think heat is of a problem. Right before it crashes it’s stable at around 38-40°

I wonder if it’s not the Power supply. It’s only 430W. It’s really close for an gtx 660, and could explain why it crashes even faster as it used to be.

Or if anyone has other suggestions.

Also mailed Jagex with my issues but they don’t reply…

Thx in advance

Hi there... got a few thoughts and questions... :-k

First off, are you trying to play the game in Java or HTML5?  If one isn't working right, sometimes (albeit rarely) the other might help.  I can't say trying that will work for sure. :geek:

Second off, I've heard of many people who've been messed over by having Even Balance's PunkBuster installed and/or running.  (Hell, I wouldn't even load Quake Live because of it, and I don't know if ID Software ever fully divorced the two.)  You might want to reset its' services to Manual execution mode, so it doesn't load the first time until it really gets called upon.  Heck, I would say to uninstall that, but I suspect you can't safely get away without having it in the first place.  Not having it running might allow you to launch RuneScape without crashing. :?

Third, are you at your computer during the day at 3 PM???  If you are, reset Windows Update to prompt you before installing/restarting, unless you're trying to incite a crash!!!  I've actually heard of quite a few people who had no idea why their system was taking a dump on them until they changed that item, because it would crash/restart without notice and leave them bewildered why some action they were in the middle of wasn't working, as well as when they tried it again after restarting and only having intermittent success. :(

Other than that, you might find it worthwhile to upgrade your Power Supply to 500W or more.  Failing anything else, you may be right and you're just facing a power overdraw. :)

Thx for the reply.

I tried using the HTML5 but it doens't work. Downloaded chrome and the new graphics drivers as said in the troubleshoot but still couldn't get it working.

i removed Punkbuster and did the thing with the windowsupdate. It still crashes right after I login.

I guess I will never be sure if it's the Power supplie or not. I guess I could give it a try and buy a new one but I am not very keen at wasting 200€ if I still can"t play after it :S

The client doesn't use Java.

My advice is to upgrade Java and the graphics drivers. It usually solves most problems. Also you might want to check the settings in the game to see if it's openGL or DirectX. On Windows it usually prefers DirectX but switching to OpenGL can fix some problems. I agree that the power supply is a bit low for your specs though. I personally have lower specs (core i3 first gen with gtx 550) but my 550W power supply serves me well.

Glad it works on the client though.

Devnull, if your computer has so many problems, it's not supposed to. The situations you named, I've had them all, and it never caused me any problems, and I've never seen anyone have these cause problems. Then again you're the one that's probably still at Firefox 2 while it's now on version 29 (although I'm reverting back to an old version as I was using Firefox from not liking the Chrome look, and Firefox looks just the same now).

On the note...

Then again you're the one that's probably still at Firefox 2 while it's now on version 29 (although I'm reverting back to an old version as I was using Firefox from not liking the Chrome look, and Firefox looks just the same now).

Actually I've been forced to jump a few FireFox versions due to incompatible websites and all that junk.  Now on 13.0.1 here, and not liking the upgrade path one bit.  I've already had to double my running extension count in order to get around a lot of the junk Mozilla did to the interface, added a small spatula of Stylish stuff, and been forced even to tweak my about:config a bit.  Next system that ends up getting built will very likely be using a FireFox fork (such as Pale Moon) without a messed-up "Australis" interface.  I don't know what Mozilla was thinking when they came up with that piece of junk, but they really should have left all interface decisions per-user instead of deciding that they were going to force a Chrome-esque interface on everyone.  Not everyone wants a browser that looks close to Google's Chrome junk, and there are a lot of people who simply can't stand the changes.  If we wanted a browser that looked like Chrome, we'd actually use Chrome, but we don't! angry.gif

And the biggest problem?  All these upgrades that I've had to work around have simply slowed this computer and the browser down, even when I load up without any of the workarounds running.  At least I know my workarounds aren't having any impact! icon_neutral.gif

(p.s.: BTW, in regard to PunkBuster, I've even read posts where the Quake Live Devs had problems in the office due to it, so I really hope they got rid of the thing completely!  As for the others, search around a bit... I've run across a fair chunk of odd other things too!)
