Old School Drama

So apparently Sparc Mac was doing a stream, and some people came and decided to troll him by crashing him, and they also sent him trollsome tweets. He sent those to J-Mods who promptly went ahead and gave all the 'harassers' perm mutes or 14 day mutes. This is causing an uproar since it's a clear case of streamer favouritism. Streamers of all reputations (not just famous ones, even completely unknown ones) frequently get people that are trying to troll their PVM activities and be on their stream by trying to crash them - most of the time, you just deal with it, you don't get to have Jagex come in and hand mutes to everyone (crashing, obviously, is not against the rules). Normal players also have to deal with crashers, and normally you can't just report them or contact J-Mods to deal with them, you have to fight them off. But apparently, if you're a famous streamer, you can punish crashers by contacting your J-Mod buddies to mute them for crashing, and for tweets (which are not in-game messages!). I found this all amusing:

The first, second, and fourth posts all reference the incident in OSRS/2007 Reddit.

Jagex favouritism rearing its ugly head again in perhaps one of its most blatant forms ever.*

I know this is probably a big deal to some, but honestly, who cares? And if you do, why?

Personally, I play RuneScape to enjoy it. I don't play it for the enjoyment of others, only myself. Companies always have favoritism because not only are those people usually mostly in the public eye, but it also makes the company money in the long run. (e.g. someone watching the streamer from a long hiatus from RS and being interested in a feature they're seeing, decides to resubscribe)

I did not see this happen nor do I know the full story, (Maybe they were muted for offensive language?) but I don't really see a point in caring for it either. It's been made blatantly clear that Jagex as a whole has misrepresented itself in a negative light multiple times through it's terrible business model and general game development issues. To me I see this as another "Not surprised, don't really care anymore" story.

I've watched some of these famous streamers pking, and the idiots that keep ragging and running under fights are [bleep]ing annoying and deserve this, in my opinion.

"Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come."

I am not opposed to people being punished for this sort of disruptive and negative behaviour (and this even being made a rule), but if it happens it should be done for everyone. It's just that everyone else has to deal with it themselves, they get told by Jagex "Sorry, we can't do anything for you, that's just part of the game, you have to accept it", but when it's someone with connections, J-Mods bend over backwards to solve their problems. It's a double standard is all.

Yeah it's unfair, but it doesn't affect me personally so I don't really care :P

Well I am not going to lose any sleep over it either, nor care much for it, but I do find it amusing just how blatant they are in their preferential treatment.

How much of an effort did Sparc Marc make to deal with the problem himself?  Sure, an individual can get crashed, but they can also easily hop worlds without a hundred people following them and continuing to harass them.

"Fight for what you believe in, and believe in what you're fighting for." Can games be art?

I remember one time a friend of mine (and permanent Rago team member in RS3) decided it'd be cool to stream, as he occasionally did, our Rago trip. He was virtually unknown on Twitch, and had no less than 6 or so followers, but his computer and graphics card and streaming was pretty high quality, and since we were streaming a high level boss, pretty soon a lot of people came in to watch and comment (including a pretty famous streamer). Before we knew it, someone in the Twitch audience decided it'd be fun to try and crash us. So we had to hop worlds, leave our Clan Chats (since they had gotten in there too), and black-out the stream during World Hops to finally ditch those people.

i'm happy they acted the way they did. Jagex sends out a message that they don't tolerate things like that. And about the unfair thing, im happy that some get help vs nobody gets help.
