Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Just curious if anyone is going to bother getting this?
Also curious on what your thoughts are about the game?

Personally i'll wait a while before i get it (if i decide to get it). I'll see what happens to Black Ops 2. If it dies down too much, i might pick up AW. In all honesty though, there are a few things that "bother" me about AW. It seems a bit too futuristic in my opinion. I watched the OpTic stream the other day, and it reminded me a lot of Halo. I've never played Destiny or Titanfall, but from the gameplay i've seen AW seems to be similar to both of those in some ways.

Another thing that i'm slightly uncomfortable with is the jump mechanic. I might be wrong, but it looks like you can jump a lot higher in AW than you could before. If this is true, a Scuf controller will become almost mandatory. Jump-shots already give enough of an advantage in Black Ops 2, so i don't even want to think about what it could do in AW. Without a doubt in competitive, unless you play claw, you're going to have a hard time without a Scuf.

I'm not sure what competitive will be like in AW. Happy to that Hardpoint is back though. It's going to be an interesting year. Let's hope they do better than Ghosts.

Based on how much of a cluster[bleep] Ghosts was, I'll be waiting until this is released and I see some reviews from actual players.

It already looks pretty bad for PC, as Sledgehammer/Activision have been completely silent all summer regarding PC (And the PS4 for that matter, but the PS4 and Xbox One have basically the same features in-game anyway).

They failed to provide any sort of detail regarding PC specific things, such as field of view, max fps, whether there's a 144hz support, dedicated servers, server browser, all those basic PC things. Hell, they only released the PC specs like a week or 2 before release. It's beyond pathetic. But we have Activision and Microsoft to thank for that, as apparently Activision and Microsoft made some sort of deal where Sledgehammer was only allowed to talk about the Xbox version.

Regardless, I'll be waiting until like a week after release at least before making a decision. This will be the first game I don't play on release day since World at War. It definitely looks promising though.

Though the advertisements for the game don't portray it as sometihng that would be worth 60$. Im undecided as of now. I'll probably wait to see some more gameplay. Ignore the last first of this:

I will, so many double xp codes from Doritos and Mt.Dew :)

Ill be waiting before making a purchase.  I went out and got ghosts right away and after completing the campaign only played online for maybe 2 hours.  Was very dissapointed with the online which is the main reason I get these games.  So will be waiting to see what happens.....Though it reminds me of titanfall

I'm enjoying the game so far. I've already beaten the campaign and got to level 15 in online today. The story was alright, way better than what we had with Ghosts last year but still not quite as exciting as MW1 or MW2. The cinematic scenes were absolutely gorgeous though. I don't know how the game looks on 360 and PS3, but it looked ridiculously good on PS4 and I assume it's the same for PC and XB1. Once I have a little more time I'll go back and beat it again on veteran and get the rest of the intel and achievements.

I'm also loving online. Having double jumps and dashes and abilities with the exo suit brings in a fresh feel that I personally haven't felt since MW1. The maps are all built fantastically with the new mechanic in mind and it seems that there are hardly any places to effectively camp since there are now so many ways to get into an area. I highly recommend trying this game to anyone who has fallen out of CoD.

I've been watching a few streams on mlg.tv

Right now it seems like there's only 1 gun worth using in the entire game. Maybe 2. Stringing together kills seems pretty hard. Getting scorestreaks seem hard, and pointless. They don't don't seem to be all that effective. Also, it seems like you almost get punished for using exo abilities by showing up on the radar. Kind of rewards you for not using them. Might turn into another Ghosts because of it. I think the Competitive side of things might be a bit interesting depending on what's allowed and what's not. But i'm sticking to BO2 for now.

So I went to buy a system and COD was bunldled in for $10 so I have played it a bit.  The online is much better than ghosts IMO.  Ghost was all about the far away and huge maps.  From my experiences online so far its much more back to that closer feeling, more compact maps etc.

Only played first level of campaign so far so not much comment there other than the graphics and such are out of this world.

I'm weak. I had a gift card for Virgin Megastores that I got for my birthday. They didn't have anything i wanted except for 2 hats, and i was still left over with enough to get AW. So i just decided to get it. It's pretty alright, to be honest. Slight learning curve. Not what i expected at all. You can still feel that's it's CoD even though it doesn't look like it at all. Online has some pretty bad lag. Maybe it's just my region, but i haven't been able to play a game without lag yet. Even still, it's really fun.

Managed to somehow get on a 10 Killstreak. Highest so far, haha. Killtimes are so damn fast. I never played Ghosts much, so i am still used to BO2 killtimes. It's almost impossible to turn on someone.

The SMGs seem to be extremely weak, even at close range. Their damage probably needs a bit of a buff. The BAL and AK seem to be the two best choices for now, i guess. I've been having some alright games with one of the SMGs though, the one you unlock third. It seems alright. But i still lose close range gunfights to a BAL now and then, which is frustrating. Maps really aren't made for SMGs either. They're a bit too big, i think. But i think the size of the maps fit the playstyle really well.

I think though that i'm still trying to play this like it's BO2. I don't really use the double jump a lot. I also tend to stick to low ground. Probably not the best idea. I just feel like im too open when i start running around on buildings.

So far, i have to admit i'm quite happy (and surprised) with AW.

EDIT AGAIN: Sniping is actually really hard.

I agree with all of this, although I have only just started the campaign. Almost did a prestige this week though and enjoying the game so far. There are also classic playlists if you don't want the abilities and the jumping. I've been using that one perk that prevents you from showing on the map when double jumping and that kind of stuff, which is very useful in S&D and other objective modes of the kind.

Reached level 50. Was thinking about prestiging, but i can't see it being worth it. Some of the attachments are pretty annoying to get (extended mags, for example) and i really don't want to get it again.

All in all though, i've been having a ton of fun. Started moving around a lot more. Using the suit a bit better. Right now the BAL is by far my favorite gun, closely followed by the IMR. I love burst weapons. So accurate and it's really fun to use on some of the maps. I'm really enjoying the maps. I don't really think there's a particular one i don't enjoy playing. Except maybe Terrace. But that's probably only because i haven't played it enough yet to kind of figure out where to go and where not to go.

Also, my connection has been a lot better all day today. That's a good thing too.

Some of the spawns are completely messed up though. I've spawned in a gunfight a few times, i spawned right in front of someone too. And i don't mean he was looking the other way and i spawned near by. I mean he was running through a corridor and i got falcon punched right off spawn. On riot if you stay on the roof tops, you can pretty much spawntrap the enemy team too. They'll either spawn outside by what i assume is some sort of yard or something, or they'll spawn on the opposite side near the burning cars. So that rooftop has become my favorite spot to patrol in TDM. With the IMR it's so easy to pick them off before they even realise what's happening.

Been getting the hang of the SMGs now. Had a really good Hardpoint game earlier. Went 45/21 with 6 Captures, 11 Defends. Using the MP11. The gun is a beast at close range. I was getting triples and quads on the first Hardpoint just pre-aiming down the two tunnels on Bio Lab.  As soon as you get Advanced Rifling, it becomes pretty decent to use on the smaller maps, Only downside is with the high rate of fire, you run out of bullets so fast. It can be a challenge killing more than one enemy with a clip unless they're lined up. Just need one more Double Kill for the extended mags, hopefully it goes better then.

I hope you just press the reload button once too, if you press it twice it reloads 30% faster but wastes the rest of the mag.

Luckily that's a habit i've avoided developing.

Bit of lag here and there, but the netcode feels better than some of the recent cods. The game is a lot more fast paced than BOII, you won't get much out of camping. I still need to learn the maps, but the burst jump makes even high ground dangerous. With all the bursting an jumping you really need to play on a minimum of 7 sensitivity if you want to be able to track enemies.

How are you able to track jumping targets? I find even at 8 I lag behind a bit.

If they're at a distance, obviously it's easy. If they're closer than i'd like, usually i'd jump as well. Or i'd spray from the hip. Hipfiring seems a lot more accurate than in previous CoDs. Low sensitivity has never been a detriment to me. In fact, it's probably the only reason my play has improved as much as it has.

The only time i have to change it is when i snipe, and that only happens once every 100 games or so. Even sniping on 3 sensitivity is doable. It's just impossible to follow moving targets then, even at a long distance. So either you get lucky with perfect placement, or you accept that you're going to die, haha.

EDIT: I've been hearing a lot of people complaining about how bad scorestreak are, especially because they're so hard to get. Personally i feel like that's a good thing for two reasons:

1.) I don't want to get punished because of bad teammates. The amount of times i died to scorestreaks in BO2 because my teammates would go quadruple negative....countless. I can't stand it.

2.) Campers shouldn't be rewarded for camping. I know there will always be people camping, but at least now i know that them sitting in one spot for the entire game, going 10-0 isn't going to lead to them getting some over powered killstreak that's going to kill me 15 times.

Most streaks are pretty terrible now, some of them are alright. I've been using the UAV, Sentry and Care Package all with the support option. On the Sentry i use the 360 degree and Auto Turret options too. If i place it in a decent spot, it get's me a few kills now and then, usually i'm lucky if i get one kill though. I think the most kills i've gotten from a single sentry was 4, perhaps. This is perfect in my opinion. CoD should be about gunskill, not camping for killstreaks.

I think i may have found the perfect troll class.

MDL with Danger Close, Overkill with Heavy Shield, 2 Grenades. Perfect for Hardpoint and Momentum. Spam the grenades and watch the feed. Had a game earlier on Detroit. Joined about 3 or 4 minutes late and still ended up getting 43 kills. It's hilarious.

Just got a 62 kill game. Wasn't very clean. Died like 44 times trying to capture flags in Momentum. Pretty much 80% of the kills were hipfire kills too. MP11 with Advanced Rifling, Grip and Extended Mags. Deadly. Had a few triples, tons of doubles. Really loving momentum. I feel like it's one of the only gametypes where SMGs really shine.

Really liking the MP11. Haven't fallen in love with a rifle yet, the AK is ok, the AR160 is terrible. Shotguns seem way underpowered, and I can't snipe to save my life. That laser gun is fun too.

So far my favourite map is probably Riot, some really nice flanking routes there. Don't like Excavation(?) at all, way too many camping snipers.

Problem with Assault Rifles is that anything is outclassed by the BAL. It's not the the BAL is too good, it's just that everything else isn't good enough. The AK comes close, but still not good enough. Funny enough, i prefer the AK though. Just feels and sounds like a more solid gun. And i do better with it at longer ranges. Like i said before, the IMR is good. But like any burst weapon, you need a connection for it. Otherwise you're getting nothing but hitmarkers.

One thing that i never really manage to understand is how they still manage to [bleep] up gun balance this much. It's been 10 years and they still can't make guns balanced. Honestly, with the next CoD, Treyarch should just go ahead and make 1 Sniper, 1 SMG, and 1 AR. Spend the rest of their time on bettering other parts of the game, and call it a day. Because truth be told, it's clear that they have no idea how to balance guns by now.

Famas and UMP in MW2, ACR and MP7 in MW3, Famas and AK74U in BO1, AN94 and Scorpion in BO2, MTAR and later the Vector in Ghosts, and now the BAL in AW. At least the AN and Scorpion in BO2 weren't exactly "overpowered" they were just both extremely easy to use. BO2 is probably the only game that's had some sort of gun balance.

But AW is still new. Hopefully they'll iron out the issues within the next few weeks.
