XP waste and "rested bonuses"

One major grievance regarding the bonus XP weekend is that many players don't have a lot of time for RuneScape due to being busy in real life. This is especially true for people who have to work on weekends.

This got me thinking: it might be cool if Jagex rewarded some sort of bonus to people who have to "waste XP" due to real life jobs, etc. Other games like Angry Birds Epic and World of Warcraft have similar features, so it may not be a bad idea to implement it in RuneScape as well. This would have two advantages: 1) it compensates for the lack of time to train skills and 2) promotes game-life balance by encouraging people to not spend too much time on the game.

The way it would work is that the player would get a "rested bonus" token for every day (two during bonus XP weekends) on which he or she does not play for more than an hour, up to a maximum of 10 tokens.

When activated, the player would gain bonus XP for the next 45 minutes, as follows:

First 15 minutes (for members): 2x multiplier

Second 15 minutes (for members): 1.5x multiplier

Third 15 minutes (for members): 1.2x multiplier

Free players: constant 1.2x multiplier

The tokens would be unusable during the bonus XP weekends.

I know some purists aren't going to like this idea because players would be able to be rewarded for literally doing nothing, but I guess we can't please everyone. :P

As is the numbers you stated are too low for much of a benefit, but the problem is even if you scaled them up, it would royally screw the economy and prices due to people grinding more out of given resources..I just don't know if it's the best idea to compensate people.  Besides there are already so many dailies that missing out on those would probably offset the possible gain.

I mean, we had three days of double xp - if you can't arrange to be free Friday, Saturday, or Sunday due to work or whatever, your schedule is probably not amenable to taking advantage of bonus xp whenever they might make it.

It's an interesting idea to think about, just not sure of the practical implications.

"Fight for what you believe in, and believe in what you're fighting for." Can games be art?

I think the easiest way to balance something like this would simply be giving out an item, you must activate/deactive it. It would supply x bonus xp for y time.

I don't like this idea at all.

I don't get what is the benefit of rewarding people for not playing?

I mean it's not like the vast majority are just home 24/7 to play most of us are at school or work for the day.

I get bxpw can be annoying if you happen to be working or whatever, which is where the festive and enlightenment auras work better.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

It'd be a great update for Jagex's bottom line. People wouldn't feel obligated to cancel their membership if they plan on disappearing for a month or two.

Just try to find some time, I'm sure you'll be surprised how much you really could :) Like instead of cooking I've been ordering pizza all week :P An hour used is an hour saved on bxp :)
