Back to OSRS (And a quick question build-related question)

Dusk Souls

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, you probably don't remember me, but I used to be somewhat active on this forums back in 2012, just before EoC hit the live servers; I stopped playing due several personal reasons, but now that I have put my life in order (at least to some degree) I heard RS siren call once more and decided to start again, but so many things have changed that RS3 isn't the game I loved, imagine my surprise when I found about OSRS, it was like a dream come true (though I have to admit I miss the G.E.).

Anyway, I wanted to ask, is there any point on making a pure-type character? I always wanted to make one, but for some reason or another I never did, so I'm wondering if I should make one now that I have the chance, I'm really torn because while I like the idea of a pure I have no actual PVP-experience (unless you count Castle Wars) and I really enjoyed monster-hunting on my previous account. The core of the issue is that from where I'm standing PVP with a pure is mutually exclusive with monster hunting, am I wrong?

Yes PvM and pures are pretty much mutually exclusive. You can't really do Dagannoth Kings or GWD very effectively without 70+ defence. Corp beast was just released but I'm not familiar with that boss.

I wouldn't recommend making a 1 def pure simply because they suck. You'd be better off making a rune pure. But like I said, if you love PvM then you won't be able to do much of it w/o 70+ def

I wasn't planning on going 1 Def pure, I was debating between a Rune or a Berserker account.

Meant to imply that with 1 Defence bossing is fine in small teams and dks is actually easy with one def for duo if you manipulate aggro. But with Defence it'd only be that much easier

I don't really know anyone who still plays RS, nevermind OSRS so  having some Solo-ability would be the best, I think going Rune pure as a start and trying Pking would be best, that way if I get bored or I find I don't like it I can transition to a normal account without (much) trouble.

Edit: Incidentally, does OSRS has a botting problem? I've seen some really high level accounts (CBL 100+) splashing on chickens near Lumby, that strikes me quite odd to say the least.

If they're going to train combat, they don't even need to bot.  As it currently stands (I believe), you can go to the Nightmare Zone and afk for 6 hours without even clicking before you log out.

"Fight for what you believe in, and believe in what you're fighting for." Can games be art?

You can afk magic by splashing fire strike with a smoke staff (unlimited fire+air runes) and mind runes (buy from shops for 3-4gp ea). It's 80k magic xp every 6 hours. Do it while you sleep if you want.

Works with melee too via guthans at a minigame called nightmare zone. But the minigame rewards make guthans profitable. I was a rune pure but after discovering the afk guthans i decided to max since it essentially costs 0 time and money

I tend to be on the cheap side, so I usually don't consider that things viable for me, though I admit that sounds incredibly useful for getting 94 Magic (for Vengance), I'll consider it once I've made some money.

Another n00b question though, how should I train HP? Should I do it via Ranged/Magic?

I've always sucked at Money Making, and without the G.E. I'm not really sure how to start, so yeah 3 mill is a bit much to start, right now I don't think my bank is even worth 10K. So yeah I'll probably keep skilling for a bit before I dive into the more expensive combat training, such as Magic.

I remember that getting climbing boots from Death Plateau and selling them to PK'ers is a decent way to start making GP at low level, is that still true?
