Blaze The Movie Fan
It happens sometimes when I log into RuneScape, a big text appears telling me I got 1,000,000 EXP in multiple skills for basically doing nothing. However when I go to the stats tab I notice ZERO changes whatsoever. Is this a glitch or something? I have a feeling it is.

Sy_Accursed
It's a bug caused by the fact the interfaces will usually load in before your account data. Without any data the interfaces assume 0 xp in each skill, so when your xp data then arrives from the storage server the interface thinks you are gaining all you xp at once and thus is triggers the xp gain counters. Not really something the can fix as it is the result of lag. essiw
^i can see two ways if fixing it. First one is never load the ui before the account data, second one is not displaying the counters the first few seconds after logging in. Both seem pretty acceptable ways to fix it to me http://sign.tip.it/1/2/79/260/essiw.png Retired item crew I would like to be credited as essiw at the website update & corrections forum. Thanks! Both seem pretty acceptable ways to fix it to me Well having players stare at a plain black screen without any indication of loading occuring is just plain bad design. Disabling the counters just creates extra load for the initial launch which would make lag issues worse not better. Why bother fixing something that has 0 impact on the game play and is in no way the result of bad of wrong coding - it is pure a simple internet lag. Why bother fixing something that has 0 impact on the game play and is in no way the result of bad of wrong coding - it is pure a simple internet lag. It's a lack of polish. All it would take to disable counters is one boolean value. A few cycles (aka nanoseconds) more of processing power per frame and one word of memory does not seem as if it would create this 'extra load' that would make issues worse. Also, this is probably irrelevant, but before you come back with a snarky response, keep in mind I'm currently developing an open-source, multithreaded resolution-independent curve renderer which produces output fit for modern graphics APIs (e.g., OpenGL 3 forward compatible, DirectX 10 and up). I know about optimizations on macro- and micro- level.

Sy_Accursed
True it wouldn't take much in raw coding but you gotta think in context this is loading sequence that is already under enough duress that even with minimal lag you get this data delay issue. Is adding more to that loading process really the wisest thing to do?I mean if relatively top end users are getting enough lag to experience it low end users must be lagging in the load sequence to a point that they are boarding on crashing out of the load sequence back to the lobby already. essiw
I agree with veiva, it is a lack of polish, and I think that fixing that is worth the extra lag, as I doubt it will be more than one second of extra lag :P http://sign.tip.it/1/2/79/260/essiw.png Retired item crew I would like to be credited as essiw at the website update & corrections forum. Blaze The Movie Fan
Meh, I don't need to fix it, I really don't mind it at all. I was just curious why it happens, now that I have the answer I'm satisfied.
D. V. Devnull
~D. V. "Doing what I can to help a naabe" DevnullUhm... why my name on your post? I'm NOT you. :shame: @Thread -- Jagex should do the same thing 'Dead Frontier' does in-game during initial loading, and provide a "Start" button that prevents all other actions until clicked, as well as auto-protects players who can't see anything yet from being attacked by anything else. That way, everything can have a chance to load without unbalancing RuneScape, and Jagex can even provide proper protection for players who are just logging in, especially in dangerous areas. It could even extend to enabling player stat data to load before the interfaces, just like people have been suggesting. And yes, this would even allow Jagex to throw up a big loading meter and/or message to buy themselves time. They could also go so far as to make sure they don't stupidly bounce the connection until well after you've finally clicked that friendly "Start" button, which would eventually show up on your screen after things on your end thought they had loaded and the black overlay had disappeared from view. Yeah, I know. It means effectively stealing an idea from another game. But, it would be a hell of a lot better than how things are now! :( ~Mr. D. V. "The perfect fix, right?"
