Question - TES 3: Morrowind - Quest: 'Imperial Cult: The Haunting'

Hello, fellow 'TES 3: Morrowind' players!  Sadly, I'm a bit of a newbie, so here's what happens to be bothering me...

I'm trying to start the 'Imperial Cult' quest, "The Haunting", assigned by their 'Shrine Sargeant', 'Kaye'.  He's telling me that he's giving me 200 gold to use, but I get neither an entry in the current dialogue or the 200 gold in my pack in addition to what I have already. :-k

I've already tried referencing at least two wikis, including the UESP's @ http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:The_Haunting, Google'ing and DuckDuckGo'ing the hell out of the internet, and asking someone in real life already. :uhh:

The question therefore to all of you is this... Is there anything I'm totally unaware of that could/would result in this issue suddenly happening? :wall:

I'll be waiting for any/all of your feedback/questions in regard to my weird problem. :^_^:

(EDIT: p.s.: An auxiliary question for you... Why in the 'Imperial Cult' faction does it not provide an easily visible way to get new quests without having to allow it to rank you up first?)

I'm not sure, unless you maybe missed a step or needed to take care of something, but maybe it's a glitch?  The Wiki you linked seems to have a way to "cheat" your way through a quest by setting progress through some sort of mod; is it possible to do that to progress past this step?   :-P

Sorry if I couldn't be more helpful :(.  Maybe there are more specific forums elsewhere online for this particular game where you might have a better chance at success.

The quest will proceed beyond that point, and does so on its' own.  But I don't get the 200 gold at the moment, and I'm not understanding why this is happening.  However, I have tried the following after re-reading the guide I had linked to and going back to the save prior to launching the quest...

  • Temporarily dropping all my silver/enchanted weapons
  • Temporarily dropping my 17.1K gold
  • Temporarily dropping both of the above
  • Repeatedly going back to that save to try and get the quest scripting to give me the gold through the above

...and I've heard it is possible to delete spells I've gained, even though that would be something I wouldn't do on principal of not wasting things I've gained.  Also, I don't have any Daedric Weapons, albeit I do have a Dwemer Weapon.  Given things I've read, is it possible I've fallen afoul of a quest-specific script that's blocking me from getting the gold simply because I already have offensive spells/weapons, as well as that small load of gold? :(

Speaking of your mention of other forums, yes the UESP happens to have some.  I was trying to avoid ending up with one more user/pass to remember, though.

(p.s.: BTW, I'm actively avoiding cheat commands as I play.  I learned when I was younger how much cheat commands ruin games.)

Well now you might have more discipline with said cheat codes!  Unless you're referring to them horrendously glitching up the game, of course :P.

I'd say you have simply fallen victim to the scripting. As you technically HAVE the capacity to complete the quest without the 200 gold, therefore you shouldn't need it. Generally these scripting errors will occur if you are above a certain level. As this quest is generally aimed at those of a level lower than 5 or 10. It has been a few years since I last played.

If you really want to see if this is a bug or not, start a new character and get yourself to the quest stage and see if you receive the gold. I would test it myself, but I cba installing morrowind atm.

You do realize when I said "younger" that it has been years since I've let myself touch a cheat for any reason, even game mechanic understanding, right?  Of course, I suppose you're probably having fun teasing me. :P

Yeah, I have reached Core Level 11 at this point.  I just hope it isn't a level-specific glitch, and is simply caused by my character's current (and previous) acquisitions. :?

I guess I'll have to do another fresh start, as I would really like to know.  That is, unless somebody goes and beats me to the punch by testing first and posting back their results on the matter. :geek:

At the moment though, I'm about 200 game days in on my current game profile.  I may find it possibly necessary to hold off on checking that until I'm either near to or finished with the current profile's run.  Thankfully, I do have the original build of my character, as I didn't overwrite that save when I created it.  That should enable me to check one side of that mess (having a starting offensive spell) more easily.

However, I could use some help with picking out stats/skills/attributes so that I get a character build that has no starting spells (or at least not any offensive ones).  Without spells, it admittedly would be a nice bonus during character setup if the result gives a nice Magicka pool to use later on during the course of gameplay.  So if you happen to have any ideas, or even simple thoughts on the matter, feel free to post back with them please?  I'll gladly take any useful input I can possibly get!
