Was it necessary to make all items look alike?

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about let me explain.

Usually when I kill a monster I like to count the items I have.

But I confuse hatchets with battleaxes all the time, therefore I make an error in the log.

That's not all, longswords and 2h swords look very much alike as well.

I know for a fact that in the past I could have easily tell the difference. What the hell?

Seriously, how the hell did any of the people who changed the designs think it was a good idea to make these items look too much alike? I hate it a lot.

Meh theres still enough difference in them for my liking. Sure if you don't know what they look like you could muddle them, but side by side you can tell they aren't the same.

Besides you can always read the item name before adding it to your log if you struggle that much.

From a design perspective the similarities make sense -  A woodcutting axe and a fighting axe are very similar items with slight nuances to tailor them to their designated purpose. Same applies for swords really seeing as they are basically the same thing in different sizes.

Shoulda seen classic, when you couldn't tell the difference between any equipped sword, axe, or shield..Only way was in a trade. Imo you can easily tell the difference..
