Clue Scroll Seasonal High Scores

Recommended Posts

As a player who completes Elite & Hard Clue scrolls (nothing I kill generates anything less than these) I've been thinking about the basis of how the current Seasonal Event high scores are calculated.

Is it really 'fair' that an Easy Clue is attributed with the same value as a Med / Hard & Elite.

My suggestion would be for the following to apply:

Easy = 1 point

Med = 3 points

Hard = 5 points

Elite = 10 points

This structure would provide some form of recompense for the additional a) time taken to get the clue & b) time taken to complete the clue (actual clue rewards are considered irrelevant in respect of gp gained from the different levels of clues).

At the moment, it would appear only 'account sharing' Easy Clue farming 'players' are in with a chance of the title let alone Number 1 rank - (66 Hours into this 'week' & leader already has completed 500 clues i.e 1 clue completed every 7.92 minutes!!!)

Any thoughts or further ideas for discussion.

Maybe not ten times as much for elite:easy, but I could see the logic in that. How much longer does it take you to do them anyway, once you can complete the puzzles with reasonable efficiency? I guess just by sheer number they should take a bit longer as a ratio.

Elites tend to take me anywhere between 5 mins & 15 mins - there is so much variety in the stages of the clue that you can get some real time consuming parts (Elf Land or Chaos tunnel scans being the worst), or can get really lucky & get puzzles & celtic knots.

I've never had a scroll as F2P, so I honestly had no clue!

Why is doing an easy scroll in say 5 minutes average so unbelievable then (taking some time out for kills and such)?

I think a decent number of clues per hour is between 10 and 14 if doing easys thieving them from hams. i think my best hour was about 10. doing hards is going to take longer because of the ways to get them are harder, idk if it is worth it to artificially make it more points for hards.

I can understand the desire to make them worth more points, but i feel like 1 for 1 if you want to do a lot of clues go for easys.

I guess what i am trying to say is that i understand both sides and I am going to sit on the fence with my title.

im not sure if that makes sense i am kind of tired.

Might be quicker to kill goblins for easy clues.

I did a lot of easy clues about a half year ago, I got them -indeed- by pickpocketing HAM people, which is, on average, 15-30 secs for a new clue scroll. then it takes about ~5 mins to finish it, maybe even less, if you're lucky with the ammount of steps you get. I'm not sure if killing goblins (maybe with a cannon?) is faster. 10-12 an hour seems already pretty fast to me.

it is possible that goblins would be faster, but i suspect it wouldn't be, hams are pretty fast. i don't think it is worth it to do the research lol.

It's more the fact that average time of 7.92 mins per clue is based on the assumption that the player is actually playing 24/7 with no breaks at all.

Assume that they play 3/4 of the time, not unreasonable if you push it. That would work out to (66 hrs)(.75 of the time)(60 mins/hr)/(500 clues) = ~6 minutes per clue. Of course you would have to no life, but it should be doable should you choose to spend your time that way.

Every seasonal has a dumb flaw that makes it annoying and exploitable by people putting in less effort. For instance, I was constantly at a disadvantage in the Dominion Tower hiscores because the more quests you've done the harder the bosses are. Someone who hasn't unlocked Nomad/Pest Queen/Monkey Trio et cetera could do a tower run in 2-2.5 hours, whereas it would take me a minimum of 3-3.5 hours in max gear because I have all bosses unlocked.

Made a post in RSOF about it but nobody cared.

Slapsaroth, life points, pretty much all of the seasonals are like this. This thread is a good idea but doubtful anything will get changed.

And there is a bigger thing why I won't even bother with these seasonal highscores, cannot really call it a flaw. But I don't have the time to spend 16 hours a day on runescape. 4-5 hours a day would be my max I guess, and many people cannot even reach that amount. Which means I won't ever have the chance on getting to the top :P

I managed to get into the top 100 with the clue scrolls doing about 2 hours of clues a day

A few seasonals are more "legitimate" than others, most of the pvm kills ones for example

Solo Sara (you can have someone kill minis for you, but most of the winners did not do this)

Slayer Tower Kills (just barrage hands)

Imps (Resource Dungeon + cannon at monastery)

Undead (catacombs + cannon undead farm)

best drops (reasonably accurate/up to date): 1x Elysian Sigil (LS), 1x Arcane Sigil (cs), 4x Armadyl Hilt (solo at 100m, 100m, 50m, and 5m), 2x Saradomin Hilt (solo at 25m), 5x Draconic Visage (34m,1.2m,1.2m) and various cs/ls/ffa Nex splits.
Drygore Drops: 7 Longswords, 3 Maces, 3 Rapiers, 3 Off-hand Rapiers,  5 Off-hand Maces, 3 Off-hand Longswords

ROTS Shields: 12  Seismics: 16

Ascension Crossbows: 6  Spider Legs: 10

Countless Armadyl armour pieces, Saradomin amulets, Dragon Hatchets, and Fremenik Rings.
