While this does not affect most players, it can prove to be an inconvenience to players who do very large trades. Of course, the fundamentally simplest solution is to switch to the long data type, or better yet, arbitrary-precision arithmetic. But if that isn't technically feasible, then I have an idea that can allow players to store and trade large amounts of wealth without resorting to high-liquidity items: coin denominations and bills. Basically, there would be six types of coins with different values: Blue coin - 5 GP Green coin - 10 GP Red coin - 25 GP White coin - 50 GP Purple coin - 100 GP Black coin - 500 GP There would also be bills for larger denominations: Blue bill - 1,000 GP Green bill - 5,000 GP Red bill - 10,000 GP White bill - 25,000 GP Purple bill - 50,000 GP Black bill - 100,000 GP Silver bill - 500,000 GP Golden bill - 1 million GP Players would be able to convert between regular GP and coins or bills at banks. The coins and bills would not be transferable on the Grand Exchange, and their face values would be used to calculate the values of trades. Arceus Posted January 21, 2015 Share Posted January 21, 2015 While that would all work, I think another concern of Jagex's is the economic impact of infinite coin storage rather than the possible inconvenience of switching systems or implementing new denominations of currency. In other words, when you give people an essentially infinite amount of space to hoard coins, it will create some downward pressure on very valuable items like partyhats and crackers, even the ones not valued at the current maximum cash stack or above. Part of the reason for this is that people use them to hold large chunks of wealth or when it's not feasible to try and juggle X coin pouches. I do think it would be a nice novelty though, if nothing else :P. "Fight for what you believe in, and believe in what you're fighting for." Anywho, getting back to the topic... -.- Anyone here ever heard the phrase "Have your cake and eat it too", or in this case "Have your gp and your exp too"? :huh: If you train summoning, what you were using for a higher denomination of gp gets perma-locked into exp instead, unusable for the other. That in itself auto-defeats the ability of Summoning Shards to act as a form of currency, but then try tossing in the effects of the Grand Exchange, and the effects of all those new accounts being made that have those unwanted trade restrictions. Effectively, trying to set a locked value upon such a skilling item doesn't work, as the actual exchanged in-game value can differ on a massive scale. Plus, if you run afoul of those trade restrictions, it can possibly block a trade completely. In the end, you're forced back to an actual in-game currency, and that in itself is why this thread got started. So, having Jagex produce compressed currency packaging is actually beneficial to the economy design, given possible situations that can (and probably will) arise as gameplay progresses. :geek: Now, admittedly, I haven't played RuneScape myself in some time. So I don't honestly know if those Trade Restrictions are still in place for new accounts. If they aren't, feel free to post back here and tell, as that was one of the many reasons I left and I would find it an after-comfort to know they had been discontinued. :-k ~D. V. Devnull It works for every person, even ironman accounts, as arceus already said, you can trade them back at the same price as bought for to any shop you want (25gp). It still stands though that if you use up things like spirit shards for summoning training, then there will still be some loss of your 'gp equivalent' through locked exp exchange and non-return of some shards via NPCs that break the summoning pouches back down into shards and such. If you're willing to put up with that, then enjoy... but I still see that as being unstable. :| I honestly still think that @ixfd64's idea of providing actual grouped currency notes should happen, however only with 3 grouping levels like I have posted as a possible tweak to this suggestion. Simply, it would provide a standard that doesn't have this potentially perceivable issue of vulnerability, and I happen to like the elementary feeling of stability that this suggestion provides. :huh: ~D. If you're willing to put up with that, then enjoy... but I still see that as being unstable. :| I still don't get how a 25GP denomination that you can incidentally use in skilling is unstable or vulnerable in any way, given that it's completely fluid and in no way different from how you'd spend coins on construction training. 1 In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.
