Generic high-level Slayer Help

Deletion

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've recently maxed apart from I'm still 85 defence and I'm wanting to get 99 through Slayer.

The problem is I haven't really done any structured combat, let alone slayer, since EoC came out - I've done small amounts using rotations I found on the wiki.

So I have a few questions as to how I should start:

  1. What gear should I be using? I have about 600m free cash, the tier 70 power armours, all chaotics and a RCB (no tier 90 weps at all). I'm assuming I'll want to buy a level 90 weps in at least one style?
  2. What style should I be using? I guess this kind of relates to questions 1. I can't afford tier 90 in all styles so what styles should I preferentially buy, and if fighting something I don't have a tier 90 weapon for should I use tier 80 in the weak style or always a tier 90?
  3. I'm assuming I should be using Morovan? Can anyone direct me to a good blocklist please :) I assume the most efficient list has been figured out?
  4. What are good items to have? I'm thinking herbicide, bonecrusher, gem bag, charming imp, ferocious ring. I assume Ovls, renewals, Soul split, the 95 curses are still the way to go?
  5. Any advice on what rotations, thresholds and ultimates would be great too :)

Sorry if this is a huge question. I'm a bit of an EoC noob.

Thanks for any advice!

1) Ideal world all T90, in terms of maximising xp gains and affording only 1 set I'd say get ascensions.

2) Most slayer mobs can be obliterated with any style you please if using t90 other than a couple like ascension membs tht must be ranged and ganos that must be maged. Which is where if your gonna 1 style (as much as can) ranged or mage wins out. Chuck in that waterfiends are quite insane xp:hr and weak to ranged and it makes most sense to grab ranged if your in it for xp and xp alone.

4) Most of those items are good, though fer rings you chuck into upgraded slayer helm and wear a normal ring in its place. Overloads are kinda overkill for slayer but they will push your xp rates up a little bit. Ideal you'd want supreme overloads - they boost a little more and actually work out cheaper per dose than the regular variety. In terms of prayer its not all that useful for slayer these days. Most stuff can't really hit you enough to need much healing and the healing you do need can be pretty much covered by sacrifice in with your basics and the odd firing of guthixs blessing or dropping out of cmb to use regen. Off the top of my head about the only task I really heavily use prayer on these days is dark beasts and thats just because you can throw soulsplit on with demonhorn necklace and bonecrusher and it will never run out, but wil keep ur health maxed.

5) Rswiki has a good guide on max dps basic rotations for revolution: http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Revolution

Personally I use that with chain and ricochet dropped out for sacrifice (i have it on melee bar too but cant recall what i dropped for it)

In terms of thresholds most of them are pretty decent but wild magic and asphyiaxte are the stars of magic, destroy and berserk for melee, ranged I like rapid fire and bombardment, but I hear good things about snap shot.

In terms of ultimates sunshine and deaths swiftness are just all the win; not really a go to ultimate for melee though. Trouble with most ultimates is they are horribly inaccurate and the dps you lose by not being able to use your thresholds after missing makes you worse off.

Noxious staff - 300m

Drygore mainhand mace + off-hand mace - 60m

Noxious longbow - 240m

That's t90 in all styles for 600m. You don't really need anything above GWD armors for slayer, so you're set in that department.

“I had a feeling we weren’t coming back from this fight when it began.”

“Do you have any regrets?”

“I don’t. It seems surprising, I know, but I wouldn’t change a thing. This is how it was meant to be.”

“Huh, you never really notice how lovely the day is until you realize you’ll never see it again.”

“Mmmhmm.”

I must also add that, currently, off-hand weapons are not working, so a bronze offhand would technically work RIGHT NOW. Link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiG_DkLKtHk

For all things being equal, and the game working properly, using an offhand chaotic will work perfectly fine. In all honesty, you probably wont notice a large difference between using chaotics and t-90 at the slayer level. This comes down to what you want to do with your money I suppose. If you plan on bossing, the T-90 would be essential, so take that into consideration if it concerns you.

Other advice here I see looks great and good luck getting 99 defense!

Please ignore this video. His testing methods were extremely unprofessional and his sample size is ridiculously laughable at best.

Yea I'd ignore that as well. Although there's barely any difference when comparing t80 and t90 offhands. From what I've heard its like 3% dps boost at best. Sorry I don't have any data to back this up though

In response to the test,

As far as I know this was confirmed by Jagex to be an "issue in correction", meaning they are working on it, but it isn't top priority. They said something along the lines of, "We are aware of the off-hand problem, and are working on making offhands more level affected, and having more to do with the total damage than they currently have."

I could be mistaken, just take this with a grain of salt.

The thing is, the offhand only accounts for 33% of your damage. As Oddish said, t80 offhands are only about 3% less dps, but 3% is still 3%. The main problem is that the game is so heavily RNG based that it is possible for a level 1 offhand to do more dps than a level 90 offhand if you get lucky. In a perfect world, where you hit 100% of the time with 100% of the weapon/ability damage, the t90 will annihilate the t1 offhand.

Hey guys thanks for info. Managed to borrow some seismics off a friend and bought drygores. Unsure, with having the both of them, if it's worth getting asc (or just the MH) too?

Lastly, can anybody direct me to a good blocklist? Task xp/rates seem a lot different to when I last slayed.

Thanks :)

Glad you were helped out :) Personally, I believe you are just fine using T90 mage and melee, and if you want to slay ascension creatures I'd just stick with chaotics, unless the extra dps is THAT important to you. I might begin to think that chaotics may slow you down, but it is such a small amount that I can deal with the small extra time spent.

That being said, to each his own and I wish you the best in your training!

The block list depends  a little bit on what tasks you dislike, but this is what i have at the moment:

- Grotworms

- Desert strykewyrms

- Iron dragons

- Tzhaar (might be worth doing in Fight cauldron for combat exp)

- Vyrewatch

You should also unlock Glacors, they are great combat exp per hour.

Muspah and Nihils are said to be nice tasks as well, i've yet to get a task myself though.

Also, hijacking the topic a little bit, but the question is relevant to OP:  How good is Nox bow compared to dual Ascensions?

1. T70 power armor and T90 weapons are the best to use. Degradable armor is never worth it in cases of slayer. Just drygores can do almost every task.

3. Desert/Ice/Tzharr/Nechryael/Greater Demon/Grotworm/Black Demon as blocks.

4. Renewals are too expen these days. It used to be cheaper than ppots but no longer the case. Thus, only use them if you make them into Holy Overloads. Also, overloads only if you already have them or already have the extremes made.
