What I think of bonus XP weekend.

I looked and there is no official thread on Bonus XP weekend, so I decided to make one, not just for me but for everyone else who would like to discuss this.

Anyway, Bonus XP weekend was great, before the treasure chest/squeal of fortune were made into the game.

However, I don't think it is very special anymore.

Let me explain.

Before the treasure chest existed, getting double exp one weekend a year or once every couple of months (not sure which applies) was awesome since getting that wasn't normal.

Today on the other hand shooting stars are extremely common from the treasure chest, therefore bonus exp weekend isn't special anymore.

If you guys agree with me, disagree, or would like to discuss something else regarding bonus XP weekend that's what this thread is for.

Yeah I agree, bonus XP weekends don't feel as special when we have stars and lamps constantly on Treasure Hunter anyway. And to make matters worse, they use this weekend as a grounds to market Treasure Hunter even harder with special prizes targeted toward xp rewards.

I suppose it's worth noting that bonus XP and BXPW stack, so if you have bonus xp stashed in your pool, you actually get triple xp while that remains.

considering that stars and bxp weekend stack, i'm very, very happy that exp prestige is burning down at the same rate as my absurd leveling speed

also, they have the ridiculous treasure hunter promo going on right now so it's basically a fire sale on dignity

Apparently you got ripped off, because 2 bonds' worth of keys = 2 x 12 = 24 keys. Unless you meant a previous weekend, or I misunderstood  .

Really the entire idea of having a Double XP weekend is a farce now you can just buy XP from TH but seeing as this event is supposedly for charity they could have at least made it so you had to actually donate to get a time period of Double XP. Instead this weekend is (and has been promoted by Jagex) as being about gains and the TH promotion reinforces that fact.

I just wish Jagex would do away with them, but given that for 3 days twice a year it makes it look like RS has an ok sized player base, I doubt it will ever happen.

I would argue that it devalues most skills...

jk they've been at that state for a long time already.

I personally don't have a problem with skills being made easier to train with these shooting stars and all that stuff.

I am a man which does more than just play RuneScape, I usually just play RuneScape when I'm not working on a video. Which happens a lot.

But a lot of times I am working on a video therefore not playing RuneScape, so it's convenient that I can train skills more easily now.

Im not making a point about skills being easier, just the result that occurs from it.

A lot of players seek and desire respect/attention or competition in Runescape. With the way the game has developed, accomplishments are common and the joy short lived before players attempt to tackle a new more challenging obstacle (don't forget though, thousands have already done it!)

With the standards rising more and more, which is only natural for a game so old, it's harder for people to step up to the plate and make any kind of impact on the community.

Yes I know not all players seek the same sensations as others, but in the broad sense of the community most players do, and Jagex is the one profiting off it. Allowing players to buy their way up, setting incredulous, official methods to get attention (true final boss, trimmed comp)

I guess I would change my original statement that the entirety of Runescape is becoming devalued. Oops typing at work too much g2g

If you're playing in order to impress others, then investing your time in stats/XP has always been a losing strategy with a very poor return on your investment. Skills are doomed to become easier and easier as time goes on. Combat skills (both the stats themselves and a player's actual skill during combat) are really the only thing that are guaranteed to remain relevant till RS dies.

When the first elite achievement diary came out in 2009 and it had a 75 runecrafting requirement, there was no way in hell I wanted to train runecrafting to 75 just for the diary. So I never trained runecrafting, under the assumption that someday there would be a very simple and tolerable way to train runecrafting. Lo and behold, a few years later the Runespan is released and I'm a happy camper :D Meanwhile thousands of players are somehow shocked and upset that a new method of training one of the game's most tedious skills is finally released after all these years.

I think bonus/double xp weekends are still good. People who don't choose to participate in treasure hunter by buying rewards do not see "massive" bonus exp on a daily basis, so the extra weekend is still good.

Granted, if you stored up all you bonus exp from treasure hunter until each xp weekend, you could see good gains, but good luck with that if you are playing regularly.

We all know Jagex is bigger now than its original creators. It is a business. Yes, they are going to plug their product whenever they have an opportunity. Make your choice. Is the enjoyment of the game with a community lessened just by hanging out with someone who bought keys for treasure hunter? You wouldn't know unless they say something.

I too feel that BXP weekend devalues everything because you have BXP coming out of treasure hunter.

Had we no BXP from p2w, I'd be fine with it, but as it is, the BXP weekend is just far too much sugar on top the sugared up BXP from th
