Any ways to kick someone off your account nowadays?

Back when they existed, the security questions were pretty useful in dealing with in-progress hijackings: answering the questions would immediately cause the account in question to log out. However, the security questions have been removed. So I'm wondering: if your account is being hacked, is there any way to boot off the hijacker nowadays?

Not really, but in all honesty your doing something wrong in the first place if someone even CAN hijack your account.

I mean email/account name instead of display name for log in means almost no-one should know what that portion of your log in is, unless your keylogged.

Password shouldn't be something people can guess and therefore again should be safe unless your keylogged.

Email for reocvery should ideally be under 2 step authentication making it pretty near impossible to hijack an account via recovery

Then whack on authenticator where someone needs your actual device to be able to log in and even if you are keylogged it's pretty darn hard to actually get into the account itself.

By all means its not impossible, but like 99.9999999999% of cases of getting hacked/hijacked has got to be because you did something really dumb.

Prevention is the best treatment as Sy says. If you see someone live on your account doing something, your best hope is to go to Account Help and try to have them sort out any sort of sanctions that may be assigned later. I don't know how successful people are we that but I see many accounts that have obviously been hijacked delegated to spamming YouTube phish videos for "giveaways."

If you use the authenticator, then yes. I can see people getting keylogged without the authenticator though. It is easy to get a keylogger.

I 100% agree with Sy. As long as you take advantage of Jagex's "protection", and YOU are smart about your passoword choices, what websites you visit, never telling your email, etc, you will never have an honest problem with getting your account "hijaked" or "hacked".

Goodluck!

I normally use mac, but I used a computer of a friend with windows on it. He had a fully paid (up-to-date) virusscanner that didn't see the keylogger. Not sure how you can call that dumb, and yeah got keylogged. That was years before the authenticator existed though.

Obviously he didn't have a good enough program then or visited dodgy sites.

Visiting dodgy sites even with good AV isn't smart and just because it was a paid for AV doesn't mean it had all the necessary features (ie being a full package spyware etc.) or that it was a decent one. Plenty of paid for AVs that score abysmally in rankings vs some of the good name free ones.

I think instead of calling people dumb for getting a keylogger, we should try to help the OP with the original question--all this extra is wonderful but I think he/she realizes his mistake and just wants to fix the problem. Good job Arceus for doing that wonderfully. In addition, we don't even know if OP actually got hacked--he/she simply asked a question. Finally, I've never gotten a keylogger, but we have to keep in mind that young people play this...and they may or may not even know what a keylogger is. I know back in my younger days, I got viruses on my computer simply because I didn't know better. Calling someone "dumb" for not knowing how to identify "fishy" sites (pun intended) is like calling a non-basketball player dumb for not knowing the rules of the game.

Fair point, to an extent. I mean no harm towards anyone, just putting it how it is. I supposed uneducated would be a better term?

To the OP, I am not sure exactly what you are asking.. I assume if you get in contact with Jagex they can IP ban the people using your account against your consent.

I think you'll find I did answer the ops original question - there is no way to immediately kick a hijacker off these days like recovery questions used to offer.

I then added in extra information about how to prevent being getting hijacked in the first place emphasising the fact that it is entirely avoidable if your smart with it.

I also don't think it's hard to identify fishy sites - they are ones that aren't known names and don't come near the top of search engines for the normal keywords on a topic (ie Runescape) but may appear when you search for things that break rules (ie Runescape Cheats, Free Runescape Gold)

It's not like its easy to stumble on to a fishy site, you've got to do some sort of dodgy search or clicking on an iffy ad to get there.

Sure some people might not like that I use the word dumb - but whats the point in dancing around sugar coating it? With the protection options existing and the necessity of doing something wrong to get anywhere near being hacked with half way decent AV software it means you did something stupid or dumb and with the tech savviness of kids these days if they are old enough to be using the net unsupervised they are old enough to understand when a site looks dodgy and that such sites can give you viruses which are a bad thing.

A good chunk of the community got turfed off this site in 2011 for giving good advice out while calling people "dumb", if you can remember that far back.

Because there is no need to call them dumb, you don't know the circumstances, you don't know them. Also it adds nothing to your point by calling people dumb. If a kid (13+) uses the computer managed by an adult, on which he may not change anything (including changing an anti-viruspogram) then there is no need to call that person dumb, and I am sure that there are many more examples to think of which has nothing to do with the intelligence of the person. Heck even having a lack of computer-knowledge doesn't make you dumb. Also doing something dumb and being dumb are two different things.

If you re-read my posts I only actually said dumb in 3 of them.

First was in the context of saying someone did something dumb - and as you note doing something dumb and being dumb are not the same.

Second was a sarcastic rewording of your own point, it probably didn't come across so well in text based format by whats done is done, didn't mean for it to be taken all to literally.

Third post was purely commenting on using word dumb vs sugar coating.

I never actually called a specific person dumb with serious intent I just called the action required to get keylogged these days dumb.

Plus dumb doesn't even really comment on someone intelligence, doing dumb things is the results of being rash, foolish, naive or ill-informed sure. But not lack of intelligence, even the smartest people in the world do dumb stuff from time to time.

Heck to insinuate dumb somehow means a person lacks intelligence kinda harks back to the outdated and offensive notion that dumb people (in the medical sense of those who cannot talk) are that way due to lack of intelligence opposed to modern knowledge that understands being dumb, much like being blind or deaf has no correlation to ones intellect.

As far as I am concerned there isn't anything greatly wrong with the word dumb. Everyone does dumb things from time to time be they a genuinely unintelligent person or a certified genius. We all have our dumb moments and one such moment may be taking the dumb actions that lead to be keylogged.

I don't want to play a wannabemod, but can you take it to PM?

The person's question has been answered; there is no way to lock an account in use short of submitting a ticket to jagex.

Sorry for this. I don't think further discussion about it is necessary. Again, sorry for going so off-topic.

Locking this topic as it has run its course and it is going the wrong way. If OP wants to reopen it, he/she can shoot any moderator a PM and it will be considered.
