jim_vierling
Is there some trick not listed to the final battle against Char? I can not avoid the firewalls because I can not change direction in time. I have to keep moving around to avoid Char, but in doing so I am already moving in one direction and can not stop when the firewall appears. Also is there some way to turn off the firemaking animation so that I can move faster? It takes way too long to light the fire and half the time it automatically sends you right back at Char. It seems like this quest was written by someone using a gaming console with no online lag what-so-ever. ????? Is this another quest that you have to do in EoC to complete for whatever reasons? Sy_Accursed
If you turn auto retaliate off you wont run at Char.Fire walls aren't a big worry anyway since you can just run through them and tank the hit.No way to remove animation. Honestly not much in the ways of tricks to what is a relatively easy fight. Armour is meaningless, as is your weapon - so best to go light weight and a nice fast ranged wep. Then just light a whole heap of fires to drive your damage up and get as many hits in as you can before Char goes super angry or fires go out. jim_vierling
Well I finally won the fight, but now the game won't let me get to the end dialogue. Something keeps hitting me for very small amounts of damage and I can not talk to Char after the fight. I can not send an in game bug report either as the damage keeps shutting that window. jim_vierling
I took the chance of logging out and the fight not being kept to see if it would get past the damage thing. It did. The quest is now done. My Ironman account.

I was not referring to running at Char. What I was referring to is the always going to the left after you start a fire making you go at whatever you happen to be fighting or in this case Char. (I realize that there are not many instances other than Char where this would come into play.) The fight is not that easy when you have lag. The whole process of starting the fires is way too slow. I could not ever get more than 9 fires going at once and that was not easy. With lag, you will just completely stop running or moving sometimes and then go really fast to catch up. In the time that you are still you can be clicking like mad to move so that when it starts to move again you have 10 different clicks that it will try and catch up. That results in a whole lot of damage on this quest. I have what is considered a cable broadband connection her in the U.S., but with the ISPs having their little peeing contests it can get really messed up when the route goes from one to the other. Jagex really, really needs to start taking into consideration that not every one lives right next to a server when they write their quests. My Ironman account. Sy_Accursed
Jagex can't design a game around people who have bad lag because it'd just make for awful game design. Certainly they need to consider internet that isn't 100% perfect lag free - but they do that anyway as seen by even the high end twitchy pvm encounters being doable with mild 'average joe internet' lag/delays.But if you start tailoring to people with significant lag in design make things slow and unchallenging for people with average or better internet. It's not like you did badly, 9 fires is perfectly respectable amount to have going, most people I know doing the quest only did around 7-8 with the 'good' people getting to maybe 12 at most. Plus when you light a fire you go west, not left, and that will not always make you move towards Char. Unless for some reason you are running side-to-side over the short distance of the arena and not utilising the length plus only ever lighting fires when moving from the west edge to the east edge. jim_vierling
I wouldn't want them to design the game around possible lag all the time. That would not be fair to those that do have better connections. Simply adding a sound or a visual cue that would let someone know that a flame wall will start coming in say 3 to 5 seconds would counter almost all lag issues and give the player a better chance of being able to react. Things like that could be done along the lines of doing the quest on a hard or regular setting if the player thought that the cues made thing too easy. Or even just the boss fight in the quest. I died twice because I could not change direction and ran sideways through the firewalls. The only way I completed the quest was with a War Tortoise full of tuna potatoes along with 26 tuna potatoes in my inventory. I died the first time using that set-up because of the damage of running sideways through a firewall. I should add that dying really pisses me off and that before this quest I had not died at all on the JimVierling5 Ironman account. I try to only play in Legacy mode. I do not want to make the game any easier than it has been made. My Ironman account.
