Hard/Elites Efficiency Guide

Introduction:

This is a guide I wrote on the RSOF forums back in November 2013. It goes through what I do when I complete hard and elite clues including suggested requirements that are helpful to have in order to get clues done faster!

Disclaimer: This is in no way the absolute best "efficient" method for clue hunting but it's close enough ;).

There is also a very handy tip involving Coordinates + Notes so you can look up hard coordinates with ease - (check out the Hard Clues section for more info).

So if you're getting into clue hunting, these are ideally the best monsters to kill although you may have your own preferences i.e getting through PVM or Slayer.

Best Clue Droppers:
Hard: hellhounds
Elites: Male Jadinkos

Skilling:
Elf City Theiving.

Also these are very helpful tools to use while clue hunting.

Tip.it's Treasure Trail guide

For celtic knots I use this -> http://runeapps.org/ttsolver_app

For scan clues I use this and follow a path -> http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Treasure_Trails/Guide/Scans

I use 2 presets

1. loads thieving gear and crystals teleport to find clues

2. loads gear, tele runes, jewelry to finish the clue

Having a bookmark to all the different guides and loading it to a new window also really helps speed things up

You also should have all quests completed which are required to access coordinates or other locations.

Preparing for Your Journey:

Your Bank:

It is very helpful to have a clue scroll tab where you can put your Uri Emotes items and rewards if you'd like. You may include other things such as teleports and meerkat pouches/scrolls but it helps to keep it simple.

If you need a bank tab marker, a very good suggestion would be the spade. In my opinion, one of the best symbols for Treasure Trails. ;)

Inventory + Presets:

You should have the following items in your inventory. As you cannot take every single teleport or items, I'll list the ideal set-up that you should bring with you. You could also use presets too if you wish.

Remember you will always need a sextant, watch, and a chart. You can put your watch, chart and sextant in your tool-belt.

Basic Preset Loadout:

ay4IlLL.png

Tokkul-Zo ring is a must as it teleports right besides a bank and allows you to grab any other teleports if needed such as games necklace, ring of dueling, dorgeshkaan sphere, or enhanted lyre depending on the type of clue.

Level 3 Only Loadout:

If you're doing a specific clue like hards, then you may add games necklace, ring of dueling, sceptre and lumberyard teleports to be included in the preset.

7GjI6pS.png

Feel free to add any other items if you wish such as Witch Doctor mask.

Elites Only Loadout:

For elites you could add dorgeshkaan sphere, enchanted lyre, elf teleport crystal seed, and drakan's medallion to be included.

Lm8m48N.png

You can add other items too such as Ring of Kinship.

Gear:

As seen in the basic preset loadout above, you can also include gear and a weapon. Since everyone has their own preferences, I won't go into any detail.

The ideal set-up is to have a staff or wand/orb as Uri is weak to mage. Other attack styles are fine. What I just use nowadays is polypore staff and exoskeleton. Another thing too is if for example you are clue hunting at male jadinkos, you could use the same gear to complete the clue. It doesn't really matter.

However you may also just use a meerkat pouch and use it's fetch casket ability to avoid fighting wizards. Though there may be a few places where it WON'T work. One example is the Nature's Grotto.

So that is why it's always handy to bring a weapon in case.

Hard Clues

Coordinates:

Please note that this method uses the Notes feature in Runescape. It allows you to look up a coordinate with ease. However if you're new to clue hunting, I strongly recommend using Tip.it's Treasure Trail guide as it comes with pictures to help you!

However due to limited space, two coordinates are on the same "note" line... so I'm really hoping they will increase the cap in the future.

The following method I use for coordinates is to input the following coordinates into your Notes tab. It will allow you to look up your coordinate quickly. Please keep in mind that this is meant for level 3 clues only.

Legend:

x The first two digits of the coordinates should be from lowest to highest.
x You only need the first four digits of the coordinates to find your location.
x There is a location name besides the coordinate.

bAwSKyS.png

If you don't do wilderness clues, you may just remove the coordinates and then adjust list.

(The list is 100% level 3 coords as I added every coord I got from a clue to the list - took me many clues to find them all ;)).

Uri Emotes

This is a list of all items you should have in your bank when doing Uri's emote clues. You can use costume-skipping tickets if you rather do that instead.

In order to complete Uri Emotes quickly, you should always keep the following items in your bank:

If you want, you could have at least 2 of each items, so one is the "placeholder" in your bank to keep it more neat and organized.

:. blue d'hide body
:. blue d'hide chaps
:. amulet of power
:. ring of life
:. adamant 2h
:. rune platebody
:. mud pie
:. elemental shield
:. rune warhammer
:. mithril platelegs
:. rune hatchet
:. uncharged glory
:. diamond ring

:. blue d'hide vambraces

:. iron platebody

:. bronze platelegs

(If I am missing any items, PLEASE let me know!)

These are all the items required to complete any of the Uri Emote Clues.

Maps

Just posting this in case.

When you recieve a map, look for certain clues to help you know where this location could possibly be.

Check for these following clues:

:* Is there any trees or rocks?
:* The shape of the land
:* Is there a river?
:* Is there a building?
:* Is there any roads?
:* Is there anything unique?

As by unique, I mean a notable clue that defines this area. ie. Falador Statue or a Crate that is shown which is usually the Lumberyard or it could also be an X shown on the map.

Elites

Compass:

First before doing compass clues...

Repeat after me.

I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map!

Sounds famliar? It's from Dora the Explorer... ;) and it really helps if you know the map of Gleinor. So I recommend being the map (knowing your locations) when doing compass clues.

When you get a compass clue, ALWAYS teleport to Varrock first. Varrock is basically the centre point and will let you know if you need to go west or east or north or south.

.................................. Canifis .............. Daemonhiem
.................................... / .......................... | ..........
Camelot - Falador - Varrock - Lumbridge - Al Kharid
.... | .......................................................................
 Ardounge
.... | ........................................................................
  Yanille - Karamja

Once in Varrock - here is a few helpful tips.

If the compass points south-east, then there is a chance it will be in the Al Kharid, Lumbridge or Bandit Camp Lodestone. I would try the Bandit Camp one first as I find most times this is where my compass ends up.

If the compass points north-east towards the Wilderness, then it's Dahmonhiem. However if it's more eastern then it is north, then it's Paterdomus/Canifis. It might be helpful to check the Barrows mound first as it may lead you there.

If the compass points west, teleport to Camelot. Then you know depending on the direction, which city you should teleport to next. If it points east, then it's a good indicator that it's Falador/Taverly and sometimes Brimhaven/Karamja.

If it still points west, then there's a number of options. Your best bet is to try cities like Ardounge or lodestones like Oo'glog and go from there.

Posting this again for celtic knots and scan locations:

For celtic knots I use this -> http://runeapps.org/ttsolver_app

The Celtic Knot solver is a very useful tool to use if you don't wish to use skipping tickets but still want to solve the clue fast.

As for scan clues, the images is very helpful!

Optional Suggestions:

  • Use Meerkat pouch and scrolls if you don't want to fight Zamorak/Guthix wizards. (it does not work in a few places i.e Nature's Grotto).
  •
  • You can use skipping tickets if you'd like. I myself don't use them, as I like solving puzzles and such.
  •
  • You can also use Miscellenia teleport scrolls instead or arrive there via fairy ring.
  •
  • Have Tip.it's Treasure Trail guide handy. I've been using it since 2008 and still use it today to figure out riddles or anagrams!
  •
  • You can lodestone around instead of using runes to teleport though it's slower.

Nice guide! I know RSOF isn't exactly conducive to pictures but adding some in here would be great at some point :).

"Fight for what you believe in, and believe in what you're fighting for." Can games be art?

Thanks for your tips! I included your quote under the suggestions so people know. :)

I totally forgot about the Celtic Knot solver and is very useful for those not wanting to use skipping tickets but still want to solve these knots fast.

And having an image of a scan path would be nice to see in the Tip.it's Scan section as that's pretty awesome! I actually never knew about this, and will definatley use it to help me out when doing scans. Thanks!  :D
