Improved Looting

Improved Looting is here – another update fuelled by your feedback from theRuneScape Beta.

With a single click, bring up the new, customisable loot window and grab everything in the surrounding area that meets your criteria.

This has the potential to significantly change how you play, so we've given you the option to use old-style looting, if you prefer.

Read on for more information!

How to Use Improved Looting

The improved looting mechanics are switched on by default, and you can customise them through the Game Settings interface. If you'd rather stick to the old loot mechanics, this is also where you can toggle them off.

Simply left-click a piece of loot and the new looting interface will open. It will gather and display all loot that you're eligible to pick up. Then, you can click individual items to transfer them to your backpack, or click 'Loot All' to grab everything.

To customise the Loot interface, first go to the Game Settings interface, then click the new 'Loot Options' button.

This enables you to toggle the loot interface entirely (default on), toggle area looting (default off) and toggle right-click activation of the Loot interface (default off).

This is also where you can set up custom loot criteria. This lets you set a minimum coin value and various categories - 'herblore items,' 'prayer items,' etc. – which can be ticked in any combination you wish. Selecting any of these will add a 'Loot Custom' button to the Loot interface, which will pick up any items which meet the criteria you've set.

Note that the Loot interface cannot be used in most minigames, and that area looting requires line of sight to the item in question.

Also, certain items – such as those specifically related to quests – cannot be picked up through the Loot interface. You can pick up any such items in the old way by right-clicking them, as long as right-click activation is turned off.

Enjoy!

This comes fresh from the RuneScape Beta, and is another example of the quality-of-life improvements we can make with your help. Let us know what you think!

A loot system is interesting, yes...but I'm not sure if it's worthy of an entire update. The patch notes were short, but I guess those were some nice fixes. And as for being able to open sets by clicking on a banker/chest/whatever, a few years too late, but useful for saving some bank space, I suppose!

Does anyone understand what the right click option does? I turned it on and I didn't see any differences?

It's not that good.  The loot area is NOT 3x3 by any means.  I have had multiple instances where loots are one square next to each other and it only loots one of such loot.

That being said, it's STILL an improvement from previously just picking up stuff, but it seems to have given a bit of false hope on it being super useful.

i like how the looting menu is less detailed than the spring cleaner menu

i like how the spring cleaner menu does not have a specifically labeled option to toggle ammo but the looting menu does

From what I gather, it only seems useful in tight close areas like abby demons at Kuradel's dungeon... depending on how far it can pick up loot. Never done the beta so would have to try this out for sure!

If they haven't yet, they could probably add a "x-bob" button on the looting interface... and allow famliars to carry more valuable loot... it's not 2008 anymore.

So apparently combat takes priority over picking up loot. Even if you disable the new loot menu.

They effectively broke picking up items.

They literally can not play test any of this...

Suggestion for the ninja team: every week, playtest the newest released content, find out how it's broken, and fix it. That should keep them busy...

Did I trigger something accidentally, or did other people get a popup advertising the new looting system (which doesn't even work right!)? It disappeared after a few seconds but I still find it funny.

They did. The right click to open loot interface option was disabled (from earlier in the thread):

FYI: They are disabling the "enable right click to open loot interace" option until next week.

I just assumed that being in combat would break this system, and it wasn't explicitly mentioned, and I won't be able to test for a while. Can you use this mid attacking or does it kill the popup?

Or...

They could release a update when it is ready. Amazing concept I know.

Yeah this. Plus I'd personally prefer large chunks of updates every several months rather than weeklys

Indeed, why don't they get that releasing smaller updates is frustating, just release patch notes each week and put the small ninja fixes next to the big updates...

You can use in combat. I went to Ganoderms earlier and it was pretty neat. I was able to continue fighting Ganoderms while burying the bones that my stupid trash Shadow Drake was bringing me, eat food, etc, and the loot table was still on the screen. Even better was that it was constantly updating. So, if I wanted, I could stay in a small area, continue killing them, and let the loot pile up til one click grabs all my custom loot.

Sure guys, this isn't ideal in every situation. But then again, nothing is ideal in every situation. This is a really cool update. And if you don't like it? Then disable it and carry on with your life, instead of saying "omg why was this released half finished, my dreams are now destroyed and I will die alone", just disable it until it is patched, then enable it, and resume looking for something else that you can focus your misplaced angst on.

Edit: and for the record the big point of this is that you can just disable it. If jagex had released some half assed shit that you couldn't disable - then I'd be pretty mad too. I guess. I really don't know. I'm going to bed. Good night.

I think there was a problem yesterday with the way the looting system interacted with revolution, which made it impossible to loot if you were in combat on revo. It was changed in a coldfix though.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

There still seems to be some hiccups (I only did two tasks with it)

1. Magic logs (noted) and Tooth Half of Keys can't be picked up by custom settings (Keys I can see, but the logs is dumbfounding seeing as how I had everything on but Prayer stuff and loot by value)

2. You can't alch while its open

3. You cannot alch while its open

4. You SERIOUSLY CANNOT alch while its open

Like I get not being able to alch the stuff in the loot box, but why the hell can I not alch things in my inventory to make room. It dumbfounds me.
