sign of the porter

I've been away for some months and my sign of the porter is not working, has it changed? Have I forgotten to do something with it? In my worn equipment tab it says it is active with 20 charges but while fighting it was not transporting any gems which already have spots in my bank, nor any grimy herbs, nothing. The info button of the sign of the porter says those things are it's level. Nothing is getting transported and my fight session ended with all 20 charges remaining.

Apparently, signs of the porter do not work on herbs or gems obtained as monster drops. Only herbs harvested from a patch or gems mined from ore or gem rocks would work.

Signs of the porter do not work on all listed items, such as grimy herbs dropped by monsters, despite working on the same herbs harvested from a patch. The same applies to gems dropped by monsters, but not gems mined from ore or gem rocks.

ugh pretty useless then

They are great for fishing rocktails, mining rune/addy ore, or other non-combat related collection.

“Do you have any regrets?”

“I don’t. It seems surprising, I know, but I wouldn’t change a thing. This is how it was meant to be.”

“Huh, you never really notice how lovely the day is until you realize you’ll never see it again.”

“Mmmhmm.”

with the amount of time and effort it takes to make a sign of the porter and the emerald necklace that goes with it, you may as well do a bank run with those activities. only convenient situation for it is during fighting.

Are you an iron man? It literally takes 3 minutes to make about 100 porters by buying the materials off of the GE. 100 porters would save you wayyy more time than banking 1500-2000 items by hand depending on how far you are from a bank.

Of course even if you are doing it DIY/ironman there is a case for them being good to make - some decent div xp to be had in making them, plus decent mining xp in getting the gems and ores and decenting smithing and crafting xp in making the neckalces.

Thereby making the overall pursuit of making porters quite an xp filled experience, but yeah check the item list here:

Items under the skill specific headings only work when gained from that skill 'other' are ones that work during combat - the only big useful ones in combat drops really are d-hides and unicorn horns

I remember they were useful with fighting the dragons .. not so today with the demons

However later today I used/wasted them collecting thin snails .. I was going through stuff to use up stuff in my bank to make bank space .. had a tonne of gold charms .. 350 snail whatsis pouches .. now onto using up the crimson .. 450 scorpion whatsis with the bronze claws .. finding good tin and then copper mines was tricky .. ended up favouring the tin next to the west Falador bank and the copper at Rimmington for being close to the Port Sarim home teleport pad .. smelting smithing 450 bronze claws now .. then I'll not bother picking up gold or crimson charms for .. probably years .. maybe one year.

now I'm making the claws I find it's 2 bars each .. back to mining and smelting another 450 bronze

can anyone remember which catacomb monster drops the most bronze bars? would that be quicker/more fun than making them?

I wish we could make and gather our own spirit shards and blank pouches :( spirit shards especially, they're expensive

Why don't you just pick honeycomb from the beehives in Catherby, they're way better for using with crimson charms than bronze claws.

Actually, scratch that, tinderboxes are a better option than honeycomb.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

The skeletons in the catacombs seem to have them as a common drop...if that's what you're looking for? I'm not sure if that's a faster way than mining the copper and tin though, guess it depends..

it's alright, I thwacked the catacomb monsters for a while before realising it's not faster .. and so just mined/smithed them. Ended up liking the SE of Lumbridge mine and running back and forth over the bridge to the Al Khirad bank, which is 10 secs quicker than Home Teleport to Al Khirad and running to the bank, then smelting from there too :) and then using the anvil and bank in West Varrock.  Better than Burthorpe. Even faster when I took all my clothes off.

Sardomin_Mage the only two crimson pouches I found on the list were for the scorpion thingy with a bronze claw or some other one with an obsidian charm as the secondary. There was only two pouches listed here for crimson.

anyway got it done and the fusing by 11 last night West Aussie time. It was to free up the space in my bank the crimson charms were taking. A different pouch would have made a new bank item and defeat the purpose anyway. I already had scorpion pouches in there, but oops I didn't already have the snail one, so that one actually made one for one .. hmm. Spose I'll be using up my herbs next.

I was talking about the guide here on tip-it. On the skills guide, summoning, summoning pouches, also under 'familiars and their scrolls', on the same page, only two pouches are listed to be made from the crimson charm. Spirit Scorpion and Spirit Tz-Kih.

The link to the guide is http://www.tip.it/runescape/pages/view/summoning_guide.htm#pouches

Too late now anyway, I already mined and smithed 480 bronze claws and Spirit Scorpion pouches, using up all of my crimson charms, never to be picked up again, for I would have no use for the Spirit Tz-Kih and I doubt I'll use up 480 Spirit Scorpions before the end of my RL life. Moving on to Green when I feel like sparing the $ for the shards.

I see there is a 'next' button .. doh. oh well. already done.

Those tables are actually split into different level ranges so that it doesn't stretch the page too much. If you click '26 to 50' (the next tab, next to the Summoning icon), you will see Vampyre bat, Honey badger, and others. Hopefully that helps clear it up for next time :).
