DG Questions

I haven't dg'ed in a while, getting by with just sinkholes and dailies. But I want to get back in and have a couple questions.

  • What gear should I bind? I have maxed combat and am currently wearing a shadowsilk hood, primal maul, saggy short with 225 saggy arrows and a primal chainbody. I also have a celestial catalytic staff in storage.

  • Related to previous question, what roles are best to upgrade on the ring of kinship?

  • What potion would be best to bind?

  • Has dging changed in any large way since daemonheim tasks were introduced? (that was around when I stopped dging)

Thanks guys

SSH, best shortbow, and best staff are the best binds.

For fourth bind, you can add a range chest, or a blood neck if/when you find it.

Best role to upgrade is the one that adds accuracy for range. I can't recall the name, but that, as well as the second that adds flat damage to range is the best

Best potion to bind is the highest artistan potion you can make

As for what changed..

1. do the elite tasks as soon as you can. You get an additional, free, gatestone, ability to start with rune ess, antipoison, feathers, ability to chose boss once a day, and a free death a day

2. dg is a bunch easier than it was pre-eoc. most mobs die easy to most combat styles (higher floors, more weakness to range)

3. solo xp is comparable to 5:5 large xp.. but group dgs are better if you can get sub-13 minutes larges, and sub-6 meds.

4. If you are maxed, or have less then 5 max skills, you can keep rolling a dg daily and extending it for about 300k xp a day.

tl;dr version: Range everything, backup mage, do dg tasks and aim for 6 minute meds, and extend dailies

Prior to getting 120 dungeoneering I ran a pure magic setup. No boss has an immunity to magic damage so it's very effective. Its biggest flaw is magic damage tier is capped to 90.

Ranged is the most popular it has less immunities to deal with than melee. Its biggest flaw is it doesn't have a metamorphosis or berserker ultimate ability. Death shroud tends to be wasteful for a single room.

Melee is second most popular it's tends to be the highest dps. Its biggest flaw is it isn't so effective clearing rooms fast. It also has to deal with a boss immunity half the time.

Regardless you have to run a magic weapon either as another setup or in your bind. Weapon>Second weapon if needed>Chest>Blood Necklace if you have it>Legs>Helm

Build pure damage/accuracy for ring. Run class damage potion or a random skill potion for a potential skill door. Elite diary is beyond worth.

I probably can't get groups that can do floors in that time. So I can get relatively similar amounts of xp just doing 6 minute mediums? Back in the day I would rush floors 1-30 on c1, small. Do soloers do that or do they start doing mediums from floor 1?

And I was looking at this link about task rewards http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Daemonheim_aura_4 and I couldn't find any mention of feathers, antipoison or rune ess?

My personal setup is:

  • Sagi shortbow, celestial staff, blood neck, shadow hood, hexhunter bow for binds
  • T10 sniper ring, T10 desperado as secondary, T10 blitzer as quick-switch
  • Any strong potion; I personally use naturalist's

Sagi bow for primary damage.

Celestial staff as a back-up style.

Blood neck for heals and damage boost.

Shadow hood for invisibility/defense.

Hexhunter for shield abilities, which come in handy sometimes.

About the feathers, antipoison and essence, talk to the smuggler. He gives you an option to not start with coins, but with the aforementioned items instead.

Thanks, do I need to finish any tasks to unlock that feature from the smuggler? And your setup seems nice, do you remember how long it took to obtain the blood necklace?

You need to complete some of the early tasks levels for it I think.

Ediumu are super rare. Everyone in your party needs at least 90 slayer for one to spawn in the path and extremely unlikely to spawn in a bonus room. Occult and Warped have more common spawns. A spawn in a solo dungeon is like impossible rare. A blood necklace is fairly uncommon drop too.

If you get hard mode from beating the elite diary you can get Ediumu spawns towards a rate of 1 a floor even without the slayer requirement solo. Shouldn't take an hour to get one after that.

If you want to do hard modes for blood or hex hunter, and don't want the "Of Daemonheim" title, start a high occ or warp floor, open any starting rooms you can, leave, and repeat.
