With Enough Support Would Tip.It Ever Consider Adding a Real OSRS Section to the Site?

Perhaps if enough people volunteered to contribute Tip.It could adapt the old guides to include content that has been added since OSRS's release and retake lost screenshots. Would this be something the Tip.It crew would consider doing?

A large problem with this is that it would take a very very large amount of support. There is still a large amount of RS3 content that is very dated at this point.

“Do you have any regrets?”

“I don’t. It seems surprising, I know, but I wouldn’t change a thing. This is how it was meant to be.”

“Huh, you never really notice how lovely the day is until you realize you’ll never see it again.”

“Mmmhmm.”

There are not even enough people volunteering to keep RS3 up to date, so OSRS is probably never going to happen, I am sorry.

As mentioned in the other replies, even updating and keeping up with the new content in RuneScape 3, as well as replacing long since changed content, requires a substantial amount of effort.

Theoretically, if we wanted to create more pages, i.e. Firemaking Training [OSRS], it could work, but then we have a major links problem. All of our tooltips and such are linked to RS3 databases, so someone would click on maple log and be brought to its information in RS3. We don't have any sort of framework for OSRS databases which is probably the first thing we would need, and I'm not sure building one would even be possible.

Even if we were able to extract out the old guides from Waybach Machine and got flooded with submissions and useful information to add on to and improve them, it's still an issue of sheer manpower. It takes time and effort to modify, code, check each page and verify that information is true. For the obvious security reasons we are unable to let people write and submit a page. Few of us actually even play Old School.

So while it is a nice idea and something that I wish we could do more of, at the moment it just doesn't seem possible or practical. The intersection of people who have the interest in RuneScape, the ability to code or willingness to learn, and have a significant amount of time to contribute is just too small.

"Fight for what you believe in, and believe in what you're fighting for." Can games be art?

Casual reminder that posting guides on the forum are 1) faster 2) require less front-loaded work 3) easier to crowdsource, critique, and improve (the absolute most important aspect) 4) don't require the site crew whatsoever (Which is best for your goals atm as they have too much on their plate to handle OSRS)

Well I know HTML and CSS. I'm not sure what kind of CMS Tip.It uses but I'm sure it's nothing I couldn't get the hang of. I realize my post-count is rather low and my forum account is rather new but I've been using Tip.It for years. If you need help even on the RS3 side of things I'm available.

To be honest I'd love to see people not default to the wiki like they do now. Wikia is a terrible platform and while the wiki is full of quality information, it's also very disorganized and unstandardized. It'd be nice to have a fan site that is up-to-date and I'm willing to help make that happen to whatever extent I'm able.

Wanting people to not default to a wiki is kinda a fools errand in this day and age. Wiki is the go to thing for basically anything.

If I'm looking into a game or a show or a film or a book series or anything that has a sizeable amount of info pertaining to it I don't google for walk throughs or w/e anymore I look for the wiki.

And even the wiki is struggling to keep everything up to date, for example there are so many combat levels wrong on so many pages. But Tip.it has nice calcs, and does list a drop-table for each specific creature (and not just cluster all skeletons for example), has a better overview for lots of guides and lots of other stuff ;) To sum up, there is just to much work to be done and not enough volunteers for even a wiki to be up to date.
