Patch Week | Limited Time Merch Store Offer

The ninjas have been busy this week adding a ton of patches and tweaks to the game, including improvements to Warbands and the Crystal shapeshifters!

Warbands

Warbands have been updated to re-invigorate the high-risk, high-reward aspect of the D&D. The new patches will mean that:

  • Supplies will now be converted into non-tradeable versions when exiting the wilderness.
  • Players may attack others outside of the normal wilderness level restrictions when carrying supplies. Carriers may still counter-attack.
  • Chat options on Quercus now allow players to toggle whether they receive coins or supplies when killing a victim holding Warband supplies.
  • Players can now be attacked while looting a Warbands tent.

Crystal Shapeshifters

Shapeshifters have been also had a few tweaks and fixes. Here are some of the changes to crystal shapeshifters:

  • Players will no longer lose focus in combat when a Crystal Shapeshifter switches combat style.
  • Crystal Shapeshifters will now retaliate correctly after charging towards a player.
  • Crystal Shapeshifters have been added to the Slayer Creature kills list in the Beasts tab of the Adventures interface.

There have also been a few other notable changes for players to enjoy:

  • Players can now consistently use the Quick-travel option on goebies to travel around Mazcab if they have the required reputation.
  • The Ninjas have updated the Demonic skull so re-entering a runecrafting altar via the abyss will now guarantee the XP bonus, regardless of how quickly the player returned.
  • Max has been given a makeover care of the Ninjas, spot him running his skilling circuit around Varrock with his new gear.

I'm still waiting for the patch note where it says 'We have fixed the horribly excessive bias towards combat in collecting crystal shards by making it actually give completely crystals so it isn't 3-4 times slower than combat for no apparent reason'

so, maybe just half as slow? combat requires more resources, and is even slower if you don't have the best resources, or know how to fight them with the method that they thought they fixed, but just made it slightly more complicated.

if anything, i'm hankering for the set effect that increases crystal drops that they're really taking their time on

They patched some stuff for everyone... and completely screwed up Direct-X mode for me. It seems like anything that moves had a giant white square/bloom whether the object had bloom to begin with until I switched to (ugly) OpenGL. :|

Interesting bitty in the press release Jagex sent out alongside the merch store piece. Bonds are lucrative business for them.

"Bonds are accrued either by purchasing them directly from Jagex or through bartering with other players. They have proved to be exceptionally popular with the game’s massive player-base since they launched in 2013, with more than 350,000 RuneScape Bonds transacted every month."

So I assume that 350K includes both player-to-player transactions and Jagex ones, or is it literally stating that Jagex has sold off 350K bonds/month on average?

I'm under the assumption that it is on Jagex's side. Regardless of whether it's the number bought or the number claimed, it's still a heck of a lot of money.

EDIT: At 3.59 GBP per bond, that's 15,078,000 GBP per year.

For context, for FY2013-2014 they earned 46,100,000 GBP from memberships and microtansactions.

Then we can probably cut that number in half, because most of the time a player would buy a bond to sell it for cash, not to use for direct membership (does not really make sense, although I guess maybe for RuneCoins?). That would be at least two transactions for the life cycle of most bonds.

Tranacted meaning traded player to player, jagex to player and visa versa.

The way I read it is that there are '350,000 bonds transacted per month', not '350,000 bond transactions per month'. A subtle difference which may be my misinterpretation, but I don't think it's a stretch to assume that's what they meant. Unless they define 'transactions' elsewhere.
