Port Sarim Invasion | Eastern Lands Crew Miniquest | Telos Change

A graphically updated Port Sarim is under attack from vicious pirates headed up by the evil slaver Jed, whom you first battled in Meg’s cases. Fight back and earn reward tokens for some really cool cosmetic gear.

Also, get to grips with a new Port Sarim miniquest to gather yourself a crew – a requirement for accessing the Eastern Lands, which are coming July 25th.

Finally, the Watch have been keeping an eye on how you’ve been handling Telos and have made an improvement to the boss’s reward system – check it out!

Port Sarim Invasion

This is a temporary free-to-play event linked to the upcoming Eastern Lands. This event will run from now until 25th July at 23:59 UTC.

Please note that combat is not safe. In the event that you die in combat, you will need to reclaim your items from your gravestone, or from Death.

Port Sarim is under attack from Jed and his vicious band of slavers! From skilling to killing, there is loads you can do to repel the pirates and earn fantastic reward tokens in the process.

Once you have enough tokens, convert them via your inventory into Supply Caches containing a host of awesome items like oar weapon overrides, various XP lamps, a Skulls pirate cape and the bizarrely awesome cannonball head cosmetic.

To introduce you to the Token system, talk to either Seasinger Jemi in Burthorpe or the Guard Captain in Port Sarim and receive an initial stash of tokens to get you started. Earn more Tokens by:

  • Killing the attacking pirates (also gives Combat XP)
  • Making cannonballs (also gives Smithing or Herblore XP)
  • Making batches of gunpowder (also gives Smithing or Herblore XP)
  • Repairing the prison walls (also gives Crafting or Construction XP)
  • Firing the cannon at Jed’s ship (also gives you Ranged or Firemaking XP)

*Click on the tokens in your inventory to bring up the event interface. Should you wish, this will allow you to toggle which kind of XP you receive from each Port Sarim Invasion activity, and turn on/off Combat XP.

Gather a Crew - Miniquest – Eastern Lands

This is permanent content, and a requirement for accessing the Eastern Lands

This miniquest is a requirement for sailing to the Arc Islands and beginning your Eastern Lands adventure. Start it by talking to Trader Stan, whose fantastic standing animation “Stan-ing Around” can be won at the miniquest’s end!

Port Sarim Graphical Improvements

Although it’s a little bit on fire at the moment, Port Sarim is looking its finest thanks to a brand new graphical update. Sails are taller and brighter and everything is looking shipshape and Sarim fashion. Don’t just take our word for it, pay a visit and judge for yourselves!

Boat to the Arc Community Event – starting Thursday 14th July

In the vein of Lost Sword of Raddallin and the Heart of Gielinor Encampment, we’re proud to present a boat building community event themed around getting to the Eastern Lands.

This will be covered in full later this week, but it is worth noting that more tokens for rewards in the Port Sarim Invasion event can be earned by taking part, along with a unique set of rewards.

Telos | Zamorakian Ability Codex

We’ve been monitoring prices for the various Telos boss rewards and have decided that the Zamorakian Ability Codex needs changing to better reflect its value in comparison to the weapons.

Due to its lower profitability, many of you have not been using your anima orbs (the 3 untradeable items dropped by Telos) to create the codex.

As a result, we’ve chosen to remove the anima orb cost and have the ability codex drop directly from the boss. Players who already have the dormant codex will have it converted to the active version.

Is it any good?

Kind of iffy, seems rather cookie cutter after several of the same cookie cutter type of thing. And this time the xp awarded is nothing phenomenal either, It's just not capturing the same feel for me personally, at least.

The skilling is pretty much completely afk'able but the xp rates are nothing to write home about. Still, it's something different to do for an hour or so. I just wish the rewards were a bit more flexible. It's great that they're giving us xp lamps, but it'd be nice if we could choose what to spend them on. Out of 10 caches today I got 8 lamps, 6 of them were for member's skills (which doesn't help me at all), and 3 of those were for the same skill.

I often wonder if we as players are too jades for the game anymore or if Jagex cannot hit the mark anymore.

Unless these days the mark isn't in customer satisfaction, but in the balance of getting just enough satisfaction for a minimum of resources.

Back after a 5 year TIF hiatus. Please don't mind me too much.

All previous graphics update were just the graphics update. No new content. And best of all, a single graphics artist could rework an entire city in a week when factoring in the incredible low fidelity of the old areas! Now, it requires texturing and much more detailed geometry.

The new Port Sarim rework on its own would be more work/effort than all the 2005 through pre-HD graphical reworks combined.

And nearly every month there has been one or two 'low-effort updates'. Some of these updates improved the game, some of them were worthless (all the Fishing Trawler updates--there's at least 4 update weeks dedicated to improving that crappy minigame since 2005). In the last couple months there's been some good updates: boss pet overrides, Telos, Gower Quest, Kindred Spirits...

Do you even try any of the new content?

No, I don't. Not really. I haven't played any new content in over a year. I just pop in out of curiosity. My opinions are those of someone who left the game because of a variety of reasons.

Nah, we're all just too busy grinding free xp. :P

I've gained 4 Ranged levels so far without having to worry about dying or buying arrows so I really can't complain.
