Need advice getting started again

Hi,

So ive been playing on and off the passed decade and ive decided to start again, but i want to do it right this time.

Current situation is this:

- money: 15ish mil + red h ween mask

- gear: 4 barrows sets (3 types + guthan), sara sword, abby whipvine + exc, subjugation, dfire shields (3 types)

- notable skills: around 90 in combat stats, 76 prayer, 70ish herblore, 84 slayer. haven't done dungeoneering or divination at all.

Im looking to do mostly PvM and moneymaking, now obviously there's alot i could do, which is the problem; its too much to take in i dont know where to start...

- What should i focus on doing first? (Moneymaking to get skills or skills to make money?)

- Is it worth selling my red h ween mask to buy gear, skilling and supplies? Or should i keep it for nostalgia's sake (its been sitting there for like, over 10 years)

- what quests should I do ASAP?

- what gear upgrades should i prioritize?

- what has changed aside from eoc that i definitely should know about in the passee years?

- is this the right place to get advice?

So many questions aaaah! My ign is Fluppets

Hello! You're right, there is a lot of new content and stuff to take in over the past few years. I'll try to help give you some advice...

On what to do first, it is kind of an open question. Other than combat skills themselves, weapons, and armor, there are a lot of peripheries that help out. For example, high level Herblore helps you make untradeable potions like overloads and adrenaline/replenishment that greatly boost your ability to pvm. Dungeoneering offers a wide array of rewards, notably ring of vigour, bonecrusher and necklaces that restore prayer points as you kill enemies if you want to pvm, but also other rewards to help train or save money training a lot of other skills. If you have decent skill levels you can also take advantage of daily type events to earn yourself some cash. For example you can do the vis wax daily and make profit by turning runes into tradeable vis wax, farm herbs to turn a profit, buy some items from shops, or even alch some rune items.

It's up to you if you want to sell the mask. If you want it for nostalgia's sake it might be good to hang onto it. It's around 363m as of now, checking the thread for it. If you do sell it, you would have more than enough cash to buy a lot of equipment and weaponry, and maybe can buy it back sometime in the future. Do bear in mind that prices of rares like h'ween masks can fluctuate wildly - it could go up to 500m in a few more months, or crash back to 200m. I don't really know enough about the market to offer any insight.

In terms of quests Broken Home and all post-quest challenges can be completed to give you the asylum surgeon's ring, which is a decent all-around ring with a good passive effect. Ritual of the Mahjarrat gives access to special dragonbane ammo, which is useful for a few higher level dragon tasks and the Queen Black Dragon, a decent boss to learn on. The Brink of Extinction can be done to grant access to a more difficult version of the Fight Caves, and gives you better capes with higher bonuses individually than most other options ingame. The World Wakes is also useful, and of course Plague's End to access the high-level skilling hub of Prifddinas. Most of the quests are actually worth doing as they either unlock useful content or are a prerequisite for a quest that does.

Weapons should be a first priority, after that armor, and if there's still money left over then jewellery and other peripheries. You should probably decide what you want to do with the mask first, as advice for a 15m budget and 350m+ are quite different :). You also benefit more from higher level armor if you are attempting bosses, rather than just slayer which you can mostly tank through as most of the monsters are relatively weaker. You can sell all of the barrows equipment save guthans and buy bandos, armadyl, and subjugation though - the other barrows sets carry little benefit at this point in the game.

If you haven't heard of player-owned ports, you should get that going as soon as possible. It gives an array of high level armor and other rewards, but it takes a few months to really get going. You need level 90 in one skill out of a list (Divination, Prayer, Cooking, Herblore, Dungeoneering, Fishing, Runecrafting, Crafting, Hunter, Construction, might be a couple more I'm forgetting) to start and additional requirements to craft some of the item. You can also do a new activity called Soul Reaper, where Death can assign you to kill some number of bosses every day in exchange for Slayer xp and points that you can use to buy various rewards from the store there.

Hopefully that all helps a bit. If you would like to add me/chat ingame, my RSN is "Arceuus" ingame.

Thanks for the reply!

Ive decided to keep the mask for now until im ready to tackle herblore and prayer. Forces me to be more creative with my money and moneymaking is half the game, so more fun!

I sold my barrows and bought armadyl and bandos aswell as a virtus mask and twin fury blades and im still left with 10mil. For ranged ill have to stick with salamander/crystal bow until I can kill QBD (tried and failed).

I think i will start off with some of the quests you mentioned, I still need some levels for ritual of the mahjarrat tho.

Next on the list is dungeoneering.

Is dungeoneering hard to level up? My goal is 85 since that would unlock many usefull things on quick glance.

I think that should get me started :)

Thanks!

Dungeoneering is one of the faster skills to train once you get the hang of how to do it and how to complete all of the puzzles. It can be trained effectively either solo or in a group, though it can be a bit frustrating if you have a group of people with difference experience levels in there. Ideally you want to bind a couple items (ranged preferably, I believe) of a high level and do floors as quickly as you can for the low ones, and larger sizes/with a group for your top few floors, then just reset and repeat. If you're a very low level in dg it can take a while to get started, so you may wish to spend things like tears (if dg is your lowest skill) and penguin points to get a head start.

I read this the other day, but don't really feel like re-reading it.. :o

For melee

If you are strapped for cash, twin fury blades are indeed the best. Dirt cheap. The next best things are the dragon rider lance, and then nox scythe. If you are doing slayer and want to do if more efficiently, you want to use melee AOE, IE a halbred. Don't go for anything less then an attuned crystal halbred, or lance or scythe for this.

Melee armor, bandos<torva/zaros anima core<malevolent

For range, royal bow is best for low money. You only need to get to the last phase of QBD.Next best thing would be shadow glaives (20m), then ascensions (100m) and nox (150m). If you can't kill QBD, attuned crystal can be a substitute.

Range armor, armadyl<pernix/zammy anima<sirenic

Mage, attuned crystal wand/orb/staff or chaotic staff are all T80, but dont use attuned crystal for this. Cwyr wand + virtus book is very good, or even just virtus wand and book... so basically

virtus wand+book OR chaotic staff OR attuned crystal staff < cwyr wand+virtus book < staff of darkness (50m)<nox staff or seismic wand/orb

Armor, subj<virtus/seren anima core<tectonic

Thx for the reply, your item summary was very usefull since ive had a big, big stroke of luck and actually bought some of those items :)

Is it overkill to use torva/virtus/pernix for slayer? Should i use non-degradable t70 or anima core?

Ive set my sights on herblore now: 70-84 done, shooting all the way for 94 :) I guess ill buy 95 prayer after that...

In my (limited) Slayer experience the non-degradable t70 stuff was plenty, even for doing things like Kree on task. If you're trying to kill the more difficult slayer monsters like the ones they introduced at level 96 you may need more, but in most cases that or even void ts more than enough.

One thing you need to realize, especially from coming back from pre-eoc, is that the WEAPON is the most important thing you can upgrade.

Tank and hybrid armor helps you kill things faster just as much as no armor. No damage boost.

Power armor is worth 10% equal to the same tier of the weapon. So, bandos helm/gloves/boots/body/legs are equal to 10% the damage of a T70 2h weapon

Full pernix is equal to 10% the damage of a T80 2h, and sirenic is 10% the damage of a T90 2h

Obviously, you wouldn't want to buy 10% of a weapon before you can afford the whole thing. So, ALWAYS buy a better weapon before you can buy new armor, else you are paying far more for a tiny boost.

The non-degradable things (gwd1 armor, anima core) is good enough for slayer

Yeah, i hear ya on that.

Im pretty much set on gear now, i bought the gwd1 power armors for slayer. I might just sell my nex gear again since I wont be bossing anytime soon.

As for weapons ive got dragonrider lance and twin fury blades for melee. Staff of darkness and cwyrirfht or whatever wand + virtus for magic. Zaryte bow and gwd2 glaives, idk why but I prefer the bow over the glaives. Ill get rcb too just for the heck of it.

So thats pretty much it for gear :)

Right now im working towards ritual of the mahjarrat and plague's end, need to up some skills for those first.

After that ill lvl herblore and prayer, then 85 dg then 99 magic. I think ill have blown all my gold at this point.

So id say ive gotten started now, these goals should keep me occupied for awhile, thx for all the advice :)
