Quest - The Birth of a Dragon

Since the Dragonkin were released as Lucien stole the Stone of Jas, they wanted to bring terror among the "small" races. For humans, the TzHaar are definitely not a small race, but for the Dragonkin, they are. Can you protect the TzHaar city, once again? It won't be such an "easy" task as before, though!

1 - INTRODUCTION

To start this quest, speak to either TzHaar-Mej-Malk, TzHaar-Xil-Tog, or TzHaar-Hur-Frok. They will tell you they found a tunnel in the mine in front of TokTz-Ket-Dill’s lair, which they have never known of. They ask you to investigate this. Once you accept the request, this quest will turn yellow.

Now go to the mine, and crawl through the tunnel you see there. You will see the Dragonkin member Strisath standing in front of a huge pile of adamantite bars. Right now, you can’t get near Strisath. Go back to the 3 guards, and tell one of them there is a member of the Dragonkin at the end of the tunnel, and you will automatically tell them what the Dragonkin are. They realise they are in grave danger, and already know what’s going on with the adamantite bars - Strisath is trying to create a new metal dragon! The guards ask you to scare Strisath away.

Go back to the cavern with the adamantite pile. Before you enter it, you will receive a game message: “There is a terribly powerful being in here, possibly capable of using dragonfire. It is STRONGLY adviced you take an anti-dragon shield with you”. Once you’re in, Strisath will notice you. He will launch dragonfire on you, and quickly teleports away. The dragonfire will deal damage, straight through your anti-dragon shield! The dragonfire will ALWAYS leave you with 1 Hitpoint (poison will be cured), so food to heal you is recommended.

Go back to the guards, and tell them you’ve scared him away. As you speak, you hear a loud roar coming from the tunnel. Enough said, the Dragonkin is back, and has created a new metal dragon - an Adamant dragon! Now, to properly fight the Dragonkin, you need a super antifire potion. If your Herblore level is NOT level 83 or higher, the guards suggest you should go find a druid, and ask him to help with your problem by making a super antifire potion. If your Herblore level is 83 or higher, make a super antifire potion, and additionally use a mature Greenman’s ale.

2 - THE DRAGON CROSSBOW

Go to Kaqemeex, and ask him to make a super antifire potion - he has level 99 Herblore anyway! He will help you, but he will need an anti-firebreath potion, and a phoenix feather. Give it to him, and he will give you a 3-dosed super antifire potion. Note - The effect of the potion ONLY takes effect in the cavern of Strisath. With the potion in your inventory, go back to the TzHaar city, take your weapon(s) and armour from the bank, and attack the Adamant dragon! Strisath will use dragonfire on you, but as you drunk a dose of super antifire potion, you are now partially immune - his dragonfire now only deals up to 25 damage. As you fight the adamant dragon, you notice you always hit 0 - its scales are too thick! Fight against Strisath instead, while under attack of the adamant dragon. Once you’ve dealt 250 out of 500 damage on Strisath, he will teleport away, dropping some ruined dragon limbs.

Go back to the 3 TzHaar guards, they will tell you to repair it - maybe it can be used to create a weapon that can hurt the adamant dragon. So, go to the Dragonkin Forge in the Ancient Cavern, and repair the limbs with use of the Blast Fusion hammer.

Now you’ll need a stock - yew stocks won’t work, and neither will Magic - the Magic in the logs will negatively affect the crossbow. You must find an Elder Evil Tree, and cut it down for Elder logs. You need a Woodcutting level of 85 to cut it, but you can use stat enhancers - spicy stews being the most helpful, as it can boost your Woodcutting level to 85, from level 79. Once the Elder Evil Tree is dead, you will get Elder logs (guaranteed). Make a stock out of it, and attach it to the Dragon limbs - you will now have a Dragon Crossbow (u)!

Finally, you need some sinew, made of Dragon meat. Kill any dragon, use the dropped meat on a range, and you will have some Dragon sinew. Go to a spinning wheel, and make it into Dragon Crossbow string. Add it to the Dragon Crossbow (u). Congratulations! You now have your very own Dragon Crossbow!

3 - CHASING STRISATH

Go back to Strisath’s cavern. Use the special attack of the Dragon crossbow on the adamant dragon - it will go straight through the thick metal scales. From now on you can fight the dragon normally. Once the adamant dragon is dead, Strisath returns. He notices you, destroys the wall next to him, flies through there, and collapses the entrance. Mine away the rocks, and follow him. This part of the quest will be like the Hunt for Surok - once you’ve entered the recently-created tunnel, you will be in a small cave with monsters, and more tunnels. Each tunnel brings you to a different cave, which will also contain monsters and multiple tunnels. Once you’re at the end of this maze, you will find the cavern where Strisath is in. He is chanting in front of 4 piles of adamantite bars, and you will see the progress of the creation of 4 more adamant dragons as a cutscene. Continue to fight Strisath, you are no longer in a multi-combat zone. Good armour, Protect from Melee, and another dose of super antifire is recommended. Once you’ve dealt another 200 damage on Strisath, he will teleport away for the last time; he won’t return.

4 - SECURING THE CITY

You’ve taken care of one problem, but now there’s another problem - the adamant dragons. You must keep them away from the TzHaar city, but you want to be able to access them for their drops, what to do? Of course, create a shortcut to another dungeon! Mine the southern wall, you will automatically mine your way to the skeletons north of Elvarg. From now on, you can enter the newly-created tunnel to go to the adamant dragons, north of Elvarg’s lair.

Now go back to the adamant dragon area, and collapse the way to TzHaar, by using a pickaxe on the nearby walls. Now return to the 3 TzHaar guards, and tell them you’ve blocked the way to TzHaar. Now there is one last problem - as you made the shortcut from Elvarg’s lair to the adamant dragon mine, one adamant dragon entered the city! You can find it at the most southern point of the city. Don’t forget to use the Dragon Crossbow special attack to weaken it, and then finish it off. After you’ve done that, congratulations! Quest complete!! :D

REWARDS

- Your very own Dragon Crossbow;

- Ability to obtain and cook dragon meat;

- 42.500 Woodcutting exp

- 39.000 Ranged exp

- 26.000 Fletching, Smithing and Cooking exp;

- 16.750 Agility, Mining and Crafting exp;

- Access to a new area with Adamant dragons and rocks.

Access to a new area with adamant dragons and rocks: To reach this area, you must go to the skeletons north of Elvarg’s lair, near the entrance to Crandor. Before you can enter the cave with the adamant dragons and rocks, you must kill 4 waves of monsters. Enter the crevice there, and you will be in a small cave with a fire giant. Kill it, and you can proceed. The next wave is 1 black demon and 2 fire giants (multi-combat). The third wave contains 2 black demons, and a bronze dragon. The final wave contains 2 bronze dragons, and a red dragon. Once you’ve killed all monsters, you will be in the adamant dragon lair! Here you will find 3 adamant dragons (single-combat), and 12 adamantite rocks.

QUEST MONSTERS

Strisath: Strisath is extremely powerful, and can easily kill you. He has a combat level of 582, and 500 Hitpoints. He uses Melee, Magic, and dragonfire attacks. The Melee attack deals up to 52 damage (31 with Protect from Melee). The Magic attack is non-homing, but deals up to 63 damage through Protect from Magic. The dragonfire attack can ONLY be blocked with the anti-dragon shield AND a super antifire potion, otherwise it will deal up to 85 damage. With those items, it will only deal up to 25 damage. When the dragonfire shield is used instead of the anti-dragon shield, it will only deal up to 15 damage. Strisath can only be fought during the quest, and has only one drop (guaranteed): ruined Dragon limbs. Although the ruined Dragon limbs are called a drop, Strisath can’t be definitely killed.

Adamant dragons: They are level 365, and have 315 Hitpoints. Can be assigned by Kuradal. They use Melee, Ranged, Magic and dragonfire attacks. Melee attacks deal up to 39 damage, the Magic attacks up to 33 damage. The Ranged attack works as follows: first, small rocks crumble above your head, you have a few seconds time to walk away from this spot. After those few seconds, large boulders fall down, dealing up to 55 damage. To fight an adamant dragon, you must first use the Dragon crossbow’s special attack with any unenchanted bolt to weaken it. The adamant dragon has some interesting drops: ruined Dragon limbs, unfinished Dragonite bolts (2 to 6), dragon med helm, dragon platelegs, dragon plateskirt, dragon spear, dragon shield left half, draconic visage, uncut dragonstone, uncut onyx, and some others, including high-level seeds and weeds, and level 3 clue scrolls.

QUEST ITEMS

Dragon crossbow: You need a Ranged level of 76 for the crossbow, AND you must have completed the quest for it (debatable). Gives a Ranged attack bonus of +102, and looks pretty nice (see picture below quest title). It is obviously red, and the stock is dark brown. It has 2 spikes pointing to the middle of the crossbow on both of the limbs, and 2 spikes pointing outwards on the ends of both limbs. It has a special attack, which simply activates the enchanted bolt’s special attack, and drains 55%. If no enchanted bolt is used, the next attack will ignore defensive bonuses and Prayers. Examine text: A crossbow made out of ancient dragon metal.

Dragonite bolts: Very strong bolts, but hard to get, as they are only dropped by Adamant dragons, in amounts of 2 to 6. They give a Ranged Strength bonus of +130. It can be onyx-tipped, and has the same special attack as onyx-tipped runite bolts. Onyx-tipped Dragonite bolts give a Ranged Strength bonus of +135. Finished, unfinished, and onyx-tipped Dragon bolts are all tradeable. Examine texts:

- Unfinished dragon bolts: Unfinished bolts made out of a dragon’s talon.

- Dragonite bolts: Bolts made out of a dragon’s talon.

- Onyx-tipped dragon bolts (e): Bolts made out of a dragon’s talon, and onyx.

Ruined Dragon limbs: These give 1000 Smithing exp when repaired at the Dragon Forge. You need a Smithing level of 76, and a Blast Fusion hammer. Only the repaired Dragon limbs are tradeable. Examine texts:

- Ruined Dragon limbs: Ruined limbs of the Dragon crossbow.

- Dragon limbs: The limbs of the Dragon crossbow.

Dragon crossbow string: Use any type of dragon meat on a range, to make Dragon sinew (Level 76 Cooking required, and gives 228 Cooking exp). Use the sinew with a spinning wheel to make a dragon crossbow string (Level 67 Crafting required, and gives 114 Crafting exp). Only the finished Dragon Crossbow string is tradeable. Examine texts:

- Dragon sinew: Some sinew made out of dragon meat.

- Dragon crossbow string: The string required to make the Dragon crossbow.

Dragon meat: There will be 5 kinds of dragon meat: Green, blue, red, black, and royal (KBD). They all are 100% drops from the according dragons. Green dragon meat requires level 63 Cooking, gives 220 Cooking exp, heals 20 Hitpoints, and works like an antifire potion for 30 seconds. Blue dragon meat requires level 72 Cooking, gives 290 Cooking exp, heals 21 Hitpoints, and works like an antifire potion for 60 seconds. Red dragon meat requires level 81 Cooking, gives 360 Cooking exp, heals 22 Hitpoints, works like an antifire potion for 90 seconds, and a super antifire potion for 10 seconds. Black dragon meat requires level 90 Cooking, gives 430 Cooking exp, heals 23 Hitpoints, works like an antifire potion for 120 seconds, and a super antifire potion for 20 seconds. Royal dragon meat requires level 99 Cooking, gives 500 Cooking exp, heals 24 Hitpoints, works like an antifire potion for 180 seconds, and a super antifire potion for 30 seconds. Oh, and all types of dragon meat are untradeable. ;) Examine texts:

- Green dragon meat (raw): Doesn’t look very healthy.

- Green dragon meat (cooked): Maybe it is healthy.

- Green dragon meat (burnt): Now I’m sure it isn’t healthy.

- Blue dragon meat (raw): Obtained by an excellent warrior.

- Blue dragon meat (cooked): Cooked by an excellent chef.

- Blue dragon meat (burnt): Cooked by an excellent warrior.

- Red dragon meat (raw): Tough meat with juicy dragon blood.

- Red dragon meat (cooked): Juicy meat with juicy dragon blood.

- Red dragon meat (burnt): Tough meat. Maybe a bit too tough.

- Black dragon meat (raw): Isn’t is burnt already?

- Black dragon meat (cooked): That looks better!

- Black dragon meat (burnt): At least now I know it’s burnt.

- Royal dragon meat (raw): The king’s inheritance.

- Royal dragon meat (cooked): Meat from a king, fit for a king!

- Royal dragon meat (burnt): You just spoiled the rarest meat on RuneScape.

This thread got a major revamp on 07-11-09, so don't get confused with the posts before that. :P Please post if you like this idea, and don't hesitate to give eventual feedback. ;)

Uh....huh...

But we already "Have" dragon bolts (dragonstone tipped runite bolts which is viewed in name as dragon bolts), so you're going to need something else...

People say 'Dragon bolts' so they don't have to press 'Dragonstone bolts'. Maybe people could call it 'Ds bolts'.

Very well thought out, but I'd have a few things changed:

1: No such thing needed as "Dragon Bolts" when there are already massivly powerfull bolts available.

2: The spec is also kind of pointless... I'd much rather see the Dragon Crossbow spec something along the lines of:

"Makes the special ability of enchanted bolts happen for the next shot; Minimum damage is 6 (without enchanted effect added); Drains 60%"

I'd change the lobster drop to sharks, I mean mith dragons drop sharks so why do they drop lobbies? And you should come up with more drops.

Three months banishment to 9gag is something i would never wish upon anybody, not even my worst enemy.

Add some more drops, and like kinggabe said, change the lobbies to sharks. Maybe also tweak the special a bit? 75% drain is a bit too much, maybe... How about 50% or 60% drain?

The C'bow also has high reqs, which is a very good thing. Only the extremely high level fletchers and fighters are able to get it

Otherwise, very good idea, nice pics. I support.

I'm not ready with the drop yets. If you got any ideas, please suggest! ::'

BTW: 75% is ok for a special attack that activates an enchanted bolt's special attack. A Dragon scimitar has a special attack that turns off prayer for 5 seconds, and drain 75% of your bar. Way too much IMO. :?

I would have thought, for 75% of Special Bar, the ability would be something like this:

Rend

The opponent cannot heal damage for (damage divided by 4) rounds of combat/3 minutes if outside of combat. This includes items that have the chance of healing damage (even if they don't always) and special attacks which cause the opponent to heal damage

Minimum Damage: 6

Boom! Dead Shot

make the sharks noted or it only drops one... it wouldn't make since to get 1/3 of a load of food while fighting.

I like it, but not how easy it is to get to. From what I understand, you climb down the ladder and run past the green dragons. Mmm, too easy. Revenants are easy to run away from, especially if you're a p2p'er going to kill addy dragons, and living through the greens should be pie.

Think about Mithril Dragons. You gotta complete a portion of Barbarian Training (although not much of it, about the first 5-10 minutes of it). But the monsters on the road are a lot tougher. Waterfiends for melee and ranged, and BRUTAL greens for dragonfire, (magic? ns), and melee.

AT LEAST add Brutal greens to the Addy Dragon lair and some sort of high level Pyrefiend. Bare minimum. They should not be easier to get to than Mithril Dragons.

Other than that fantastic idea. Support.

Support. Sounds pretty good, but would Drudael gives these as assignments? If so, you might want to put that.

Maybe the new slayer master could. ::'

Nope, Sumona generally gives easier tasks than Duradel, and has lower requirements to use. So it wouldn't make sense.

Jw, what happens to the ladder in f2p? Is it just disabled?
