1. Introduction

In this guide to using The Abyss, you will find all there is to know about how to use the abyss, how to stay alive while using the abyss and a lot of other little tips and hints that I am sure you will want to know.

The abyss is a space in ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹Ãâanother dimensionÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ to the normal Runescape world and can be very handy if used correctly. It is in association with the Runcrafting skill and can make those tedious long walks back and forth from a bank to an altar a lot shorter, although can be dangerous at times.

Inside the abyss there are a range of things, including 3 different types of monsters, obstacles and most importantly rifts or portals that can take you to all the rune altars.

The basic method of using the abyss to make runes is: You first start in Edgeville bank, you run out and speak to the Zamorak Mage in the wilderness above Edgeville and he will teleport you into the abyss. You then have to navigate your way past some obstacles (and monsters) and you will reach the inner part of the abyss, where you will find all the different ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹ÃâriftsÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢. After going through these rifts you craft your runes and then use a glory amulet to teleport back to Edgeville bank and the process repeats. Note: When using the abyss, a talisman or tiara is not needed.

2. The Zamorakian Mage

So are you thinking about using the abyss to runecraft some runes? Well first you have to finish the small mini-quest the zamorakian Mage will set you once you speak to him in about level 6 wilderness above Edgeville(he moves around a bit). If you cannot find him, go east of the bank in Edgeville until you see the river. Follow it north and you should see him standing there (note: if you are wearing anything Sarodomin or Guthix he will not speak to you). After speaking with him he will tell you to meet him at the chaos altar in south-east Varrock.

maptowherezammymageisforabyssg.png

After speaking to him he will give you a Scrying Orb, and tell you to teleport into where you mine rune essence from 3 different locations.

Teleport into the rune essence mining place by talking to these people at 3 of these locations:

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââThe Aubury in south-east Varrock

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââSedridor the wizard, downstairs in the wizard tower south of Draynor Village.

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââCromperty the wizard in north- east Ardougne.

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââFrumscone the wizard in the magicianÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s guild in Yanille.

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââBrumstail the wizard in a cave south-west of the Gnome Stronghold.

After you have visited 3 different rune essence locations your Scrying Orb will begin to glow. Take the orb back to the Zamorak mage in south-east Varrock and he will explain about the abyss and give you 1000 Runecrafting experience and a small pouch.

Now you are ready to use the abyss to runecraft!

3. Before You Start

Before you start using the abyss to runecraft, here is a list of some reccomendations:

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââHaving 70 range is very highly recommended, so you can wear Black D'hide.

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãââ60+ defence as you will have to defend yourself not only against player killers but also monsters inside the abyss.

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââAt least 20 attack so you can wield a mith pickaxe, which is required to smash through the abyssal rock obstacle, and being able to wield it can save you an extra inventory space.

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââHaving a hunter level of 66 or higher, so you can wear a Spottier Cape to reduce your weight.

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââHave at least 5 glory amulets (fully charged) to teleport back to Edgeville.

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââHaving 47+ construction can be useful for making teleport tablets (more explained later) or you could just buy them.

Having completed the following quests is also recommended:

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹ÃâRune MysteriesÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ is required to finish the Zamorakian MageÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s mini-quest to gain access to the abyss.

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹ÃâHeroÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s QuestÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ so you can recharge your own Glory Amulets when they run out of charges.

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââHave at least started ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹ÃâTemple of IkovÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ as having boots of lightness can help keep that energy up so you can keep running for longer.

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââHaving completed the ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹ÃâMountain DaughterÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ quest, so you can wear the Bearhead.

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââHaving completed the 'Elemental Workshop 2' quest. The mind shield provides excellent magic defence bonus.

4. What to Wear

Now that you have all the requirements to use the abyss you may be asking, what should I wear? Well, this can change from player to player. It can be based on opinion, or your stats.

Firstly, I'd just like to get this out in the open: when using the abyss to RC, many players will attempt you kill you. It's as simple as that; you will be attacked while using the abyss.

This is because you are entering the wilderness with no food to heal yourself, no weapons to protect yourself and sometimes with only a glory amulet to teleport away with. And, on top of this, if you have been into the abyss recently, you will be ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹ÃâskulledÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ (when a skull appears over your head and if you die, you will lose all items you have with you), and you will have your prayer drained (these are the dangerous sides of it). Even though this seems to be setting you up to die there are many ways to prevent yourself from being PKÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ed.

I would be highly surprised if any player could hit 70+ hitpoints with you running straight past them with a melee or ranged attack, so youÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢re main concern should be with mages. These types of players will attempt to entangle you (a spell that holds a player in one place for 15 seconds) and then cast teleblock upon you (a spell that blocks a player from teleporting), or they will attempt to use ice spells from the Ancient Magicks spell book. If a player does successfully cast Teleblock opon you, you still have the option of using the Zamorakian Mage to teleport into the abyss. Teleblock does NOT stop you from teleporting through the Zamorakian Mage. You will soon find that your combat level affects how often you are attacked. Those with a lower combat level will be attacked less, but you will get hit more from the abyssal monsters. Those with a higher combat will be attacked less, but when you do, you will be up against someone much more experienced than your normal RC Pker. And if you are a medium combat level (80-110), you will find you will be attacked very often. Here are a few examples of a few different set ups available:

Light-Weight Set Up:

Light-WeightEquipmentSetUp.png

Suitable for players with a a defence level of 80 or higher, and for players that are not attacked very often. For example, players that are a higher combat level than most Abyss Pkers, or people who play at times that aren't usually very busy. This set up minimises weight, but as you can see, does not provide very much defence. That is why it is only recommended for higher levelled players, whose defence levels are high enough to protect themselves from the Abyssal Monsters and PK'ers. Every item here weighs 0kg (some weigh less than 0) except the pickaxe, which weighs 1kg.

BlackDHideBodyChaps.png The ghostly robes can be replaced with Black Dhide Body and Chaps to provide more Magic and Melee defence.

LarupiaTopandLegs.png Larupia Top Larupia legs are also another alternative, they weigh nothing but give a better Melee Defence bonus rather than a Magic one compared with the Ghostly Robes.

You may be asking "Why a mith pick, surely a bronze one is easier to replace?" You are correct in saying that a bronze pick may be easier to replace, but it also weighs 2kg. So does every other pickaxe, besides the mith one, which weighs half it's brothers weights, weighing in at a mere 1 kg. That is why using a mith pickaxe is recommended, rather than a bronze or rune one. Mith pickaxes can be bought from Nurmof in the Dwarven Mines.

Some players choose to Runecraft through the abyss while wearing Karils armour. I do not recommend using Karils armour to RC in. This is for many reasons, which I will now list:

1. If you die, you will lose alot more money than you usually would.

2. By wearing this more expensive equipment, you are attracting PK'ers to "have a go" at you. They normally wouldn't bother with normal RCers, because they'd only get a glory and some black D'hide at the most. But now they see something actually worth wasting runes and potions on, and you're wearing it.

3. The repair costs of the Karils top and bottom are another factor as to why I don't recommend this set up. The whole time you are inside the abyss, you will most likely be under constant attack from the monsters; causing the armour to degrade.

4. The Karils Top and Bottom both weigh more than Black D'hide top and bottom, causing your energy to drain faster.

5. And lastly, because it makes you stand out. While this may seem like a good idea normally, it really isn't when you are RCing through the abyss. By making yourself stand out, you attract alot of people to ask you questions(Eg: Why are you RCing in Karils?), slowing you down, you attract alot more people to try and kill you (as stated above), which again slows you down. It also has less melee defence than Black D'hide top and bottom do, which is almost always a secondary attack after a Pker has

entangled and teleblocked you.

For players with low defence levels (below 60) you may find that the Abyssal Monsters are the ones that are hitting you the most, which can be helped by switching some of the items that were previously focused on Magic defence, to Melee defence. Here are some examples of items which can be replaced if seen neccessary:

rune_full.gifRune Full Helm - +32 Slash, +30 Stab

skillcapeanim.gif Achievement Cape (Trimmed or untrimmed, preferably Defence, Magic, Hitpoints, or Ranged. These Capes can help to scare away PKers if they see you before they attack you.) - +9 Slash and Stab

sarabook.gif Saradomin Holy Book (must be complete) - +8 Slash and Stab

gloves8.gif Rune Gloves(they are the highest gloves that can be replaced easily) - +8 Slash and Stab

lunar_boots.gif Lunar Boots - +2 Slash, +1 Stab (climbing boots if these aren't available to you)

When you are crafting law runes through the abyss, you are restricted by the Monks on Entrana (where the law altar is located) about what you may bring to Entrana. You will not be allowed to bring a Pickaxe, so you will have to solely use the Abyssal Gap, the Abyssal Eyes, and the Abyssal Passage to get into the inner part of the Abyss.

It is similar to the Light-Weight Set Up (shown above) except you must: Replace the Bearhead (a gnome hat provides a small Magic Defence bonus), your pickaxe (you cannot bring one, as stated above) and your Mind Shield (a Saradomin Holy Book is reccomended, it provides an average Melee and Magic Defence bonus).

If you cannot wear some of the items listed above, here is a list of alternatives in order from best to worst:

Bearhead > Farseer Helmet > Archer Helmet > Mystic Hat > Coif

Spottier Cape > Spotted Cape > God Cape > Achievement cape > Legends Cape > any normal cape

Mithril Pickaxe > Bronze Pickaxe

Black D'hide Body > Green D'hide and up > Ghostly Robes

Mind Shield > Saradomin Holy Book (must be completed) > Elemental Shield

Black D'hide Chaps > Green D'hide and up

Penance Gloves > Black D'hide Vambraces > Green D'hide and up > Rune gloves > any gloves

Boots of Lightness > Lunar Boots > Snakeskin boots > Mystic boots > any boots

Ring of Life > Lunar Ring > Ring of Dueling > Ring of Recoil

Note: The weights above are the equiment only, they do not include the weight of essence, pouches, teleports etc.

Note: If you have lost your Bearhead, you can receive another one by speaking to the Chief in the village to the North-East of Rellekka.

In your inventory, there should be:

InventoryForAbyssGuide-1.png

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââAll the pouches you can use (for storing extra ess)

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââUnoted ess (fill the rest of your inventory with it)

ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââTeleport Tablet (for teleporting away from Pkers) A house teleport tablet is suggested, because if you are killed with poison after you have teleported away, you will not lose any items while inside your house. You can also recharge prayer, ask your servant to make you some food to heal up, and go back and take revenge on that Pker.

Note: I usually keep the tele tab in the middle of my inventory, so I don't accidently click it when emptying/filling my pouches up, or turning run on.

5. Method of Getting to the Zamorak Mage

Ok, so you've chosen which set up is right for you, you've got all your essence, all your pouches and your teleportation method and are wondering which way is the best way to reach the Zamorak Mage? There are a number of different ways to reach him, some being faster than others but also more risky. Here is a map of some of the different ways of reaching the Zamorak Mage:

pathstozammymageforabyssguide9.png

The Green Path: Although no way is guaranteed to get you inside the abyss safely, this one is the safest way. But it is the slowest. Most PKÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ers are facing south towards Edgeville and by the time they see you running across from the east you are already being teleported away by the Zamorak Mage.

The Blue Path: This is the next safest way which uses the environment to your advantage. The area is not a multi-combat area and there are skeletons next to the river. Using this fact, you can attack a skeleton and then let it keep attacking you while you walk closer to the Zamorak Mage. Although this seems like a good idea it has itÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s faults, such as; some PKÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ers will kill the skeletons themselves so there is nothing there for you to be attacked by, and the skeletons will not follow you all the way to the Zamorak Mage so there is a short gap between where their boundaries stop and where the Zamorak Mage is.

The Red Path: This path is the fastest of all but is quite dangerous as there is nothing besides a small layer of trees to block PKÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ers from hitting you. There is one advantage though, because the layer of trees is on a small hill you have an advantage of being able to see what level (or if any at all) the PkÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ers are.

Different Methods

When using the abyss to runecraft, there are a lot of alternate ways of returning to edgeville bank. The most common way is the one explained in this guide (using a glory amulet to teleport straight to Edgeville bank). If you feel that risking your glory amulet in the wilderness is a risk you can't afford to, or don't want to take, there are certainly much safer (yet slower) ways to use the abyss.

house_teleport.gif ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââOne way is by instead of bringing a Glory Amulet, bring the runes (or teleport tablet) needed for the 'Teleport to Your House' spell. You simply run through the abyss like normal, but then after you've crafted your runes, you use the spell to teleport into your house. Then you proceed to your 'Quest Hall' and activate a Glory Amulet that is positioned on the wall (Requires level 47 Construction)and teleport to Edgeville just like normal (the Glory Amulet has unlimited charges). Another plus to this method is if you are hurt by either PK'ers or the abyssal monsters, you can ask your servant (requires level 20+ Construction) to prepare food for you, and if you have level 45+ Construction, you can also charge your prayer while you're there, to help protect you the next time you enter the wilderness. It is recommended that you position your house to maximise efficiency, by having your Quest Hall, Chapel, and Dining Room right next to your portal. Although this way may seem to be overall, a better method, it also has a lot of negatives, such as losing 3 spaces in your inventory (if you bring runes instead of a teleport tablet), it is a lot slower because of the load time it takes when you teleport into your house, and if you arenÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t wearing a glory amulet, your magic defence bonus won't be as high as it is with a glory amulet on. You may wish to wear an Air or Earth Staff, so as to save Air/Earth runes when teleporting to your house.

telepadd.gif ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââAnother method is using the Ancient Magicks(requires the completion of 'Desert Treasure') spell Padewwa Teleport. This spell (requiring 54 magic) will teleport you a short way into Edgeville dungeon, which isn't that far from where a glory amulet would teleport you. You just have to run up the ladder, and run over to Edgeville bank and start the normal process. This way will make you lose 3 extra spaces which could be used to hold rune essence, and will add more time to each run. You may wish to equip an Air/Fire staff, so as to save Air/Fire runes when teleporting.

emering.gif ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââAnd the last, but not least method, still requires a number of Glory Amulets, but also a number of Duelling Rings. Again you do not wear your Glory Amulet into the abyss, but instead of wearing a Ring of Life, you equip a Duelling Ring. After crafting your runes, you then rub the ring (has a max of 8 charges), and teleport to Castle Wars. This may seem to be a long way away from Edgeville, but it is another way of ensuring you don't lose anything expensive if you die. When you arrive at the Castle Wars, open the chest/bank and withdraw a Glory Amulet, and then use it to teleport to Edgeville. Then the process repeats. This way will take longer than just using a Glory Amulet to teleport straight to Edgeville, but will ensure you won't lose any Glories.

6. Pouches

Another way of making runes faster is to use pouches. Pouches are small ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹ÃâbagsÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ that can be filled with rune essence (depending on their size) which takes up only one place in your inventory, so you can bring more than 28 rune essence each run. You can only have 1 of each type of pouch at a time. Here is a table of what levels you need to use each pouch and how many rune essences they will hold:

PouchTableforabyssguide-1.png

You can obtain pouches by killing the different types of abyssal monsters which are located inside the abyss in the outer layer.

They are:

Abyssal Leeches ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ Level 41 abyssalleechforabyssguide5vy.png

These little monsters are no threat to you if you quickly run though but can become irritating if training inside the abyss to obtain pouches as they have a very high attack and hit almost constant 1-2ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s. I suggest killing these if you are hoping to collect pouches, because they only have 10 hitpoints and can be dealt with easily.

Abyssal Guardians ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ Level 59 abyssalguardianforabyssguide4c.png

These medium levelled monsters are fairly inaccurate, but will sometimes use a ranged attack if they cannot attack you directly.

Abyssal Walkers ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ Level 81 abyssalwalkerforabyssguide1nc.png

These are the highest level monster in the abyss and again are quite a pushover; they have low attack and barely ever hit their max of 13. They are mostly found in the southern region of the abyss, but do not be alarmed if they all surround you because as soon as you click on an obstacle you cannot receive any damage from any of the abyssal monsters.

Note: It is not recommended training in the abyss for any other reason than obtaining pouches or elemental talismans (a talisman that can be used for all the elemental altars) because you will not receive full exp for what you hit while inside the abyss.

After using your pouches a number of times(depending on what type of pouch) they will degrade which causes them to appear as a darker colour and hold less rune essences. This is easily fixable by talking to the Dark Wizard who is located in the very centre of the abyss and selecting all the bottom options. I HIGHLY recommend fixing your degraded pouches as soon as possible, as they will eventually disintegrate if you continue using them. From my experience, when using all 4 pouches, only the Giant pouch will become degraded. It even happens sometimes when the pouch is already full, and if you click on it again, thus losing 4 essences that were inside it. This can be avoided by using the 'check' option on them to check how many essences are inside.

7. Obstacles

In the outer layer of the abyss there are a range of different obstacles that you need to complete to get access to the inner layer of the abyss.

The obstacles include:

The Abyssal Rocks abyssalrocks2ba.png

They require using a pickaxe to smash a way through them. These are almost always the closest obstacle to you when you are teleported inside the abyss which is why most players bring a pickaxe.

The Abyssal Tendrils abyssaltendrils2qa.png

These require using an axe to chop your way through. These will always be behind the Abyssal Rocks, so bringing an axe is not reccomended.

The Abyssal Gap abyssalgapforabyssguide3rd.png

This requires you to use your agility to squeeze yourself through to the inner layer of the abyss and is the most common obstacle in the abyss.

The Abyssal Boil abyssalboil4xp.png

This requires you to use a tinderbox to burn it down which will create a path inside the abyss. It is never close to you when you are teleported inside the abyss so most don't bother bringing a tinderbox.

The Abyssal Eyes abyssaleyes9nq.png

These require you to use your thieving skill to distract them while you sneak by. Again this is almost never near you when you are teleported inside the abyss.

The Abyssal Passage abyssalpassage.png

This requires no skill; you simply get a 'free walk-through' into the inner abyss. This obstacle is impossible to fail. It is always on the opposite side of the Abyss when you are teleported inside.

Whenever you successfully complete an obstacle, the view will zoom out as you pass through. While this is happening, you cannot be dealt damage by the Abyssal Monsters.

Once inside the inner abyss, there are different ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹ÃâriftsÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ which teleport you to all the different rune altars, including the death altar. There is also a soul and blood rift which cannot be entered (yet?).

soulriftforabyssguide4je.png

Note: Inside the abyss, it is no longer a player vs. player area so once inside, you are safe from PKÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ers. But, it is a multi-combat area so the different abyssal monsters can all attack you at once.

8. Tips and Hints

houseteletab.pngTeleportation Method

Some players do not bother bringing an extra teleportation method such as a teleport tablet as I recommended, but it really can save you even if it does make you lose 1 space in your inventory. If you donÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t have one and you are attacked, you have to right-click your glory amulet, click 'activate' and then try and choose an option without the dialogue box being closed by the person attacking you while the whole time you are being attacked and possibly killed. Where as if you have a teleport tablet, just one click and youÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢re safe.

dragon_dagger.gifFight Back

Another method of surviving as IÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢m sure your football coach has once told you: The best defence is a good offence. This means that instead of just standing there while a player is entangling and teleblocking you, bring a weapon to fight back. As most PKÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ers are not prepared for this they will almost always run or teleport away from you, in which case leaving you free to go on Runecrafting. But this will cause you to lose one more inventory space unless you decide not to bring a pickaxe.

Time is Money

Depending on what time zone youÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢re in, there are usually certain times during the day when there are a lot less people than usual on. These are the times when you can use the fastest route (the red path as stated above in the guide) to get to the Zamorak Mage and it can help a lot if you donÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t have to keep swapping worlds. Work the times to your advantage, it might mean getting up a little earlier than usual on a weekend or staying up a bit later but it can really help save a lot of time not having to continuously swap worlds, especially when you can use the fastest method of reaching the Zamorak Mage.

crossed_swords_2.gifAuto-Retaliate

Make sure your auto retaliate is off. It can be extremely frustrating when you are trying to run away from a PkÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢er when your player stupidly runs the opposite way and hits them with your pickaxe. So make sure this is turned off before entering the wilderness.

Lag

Lag can also be extremely frustrating especially since it always seems to start just when you are attacked. I would not recommend having anything more than the Runescape window open if you know that your computer cannot run smoothly with other windows open.

Drop It!

If you happen you find yourself in a situation where you are being held down with magic and have been teleblocked, one way of saving your items is to first drop a few rune essences, then take off your glory amulet or anything else you don't want to lose and drop them on the ground. This may seem to be absolutely ludicrous but as you may already know items that are dropped on the ground do not appear for a certain amount of time (around a minute), so by the time you have been respawned, you can quickly use a glory amulet to teleport back to Edgeville and run out to where you dropped your items and pick them up. If the PKÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢er is still there waiting for your items to appear, you are now no longer skulled so if you manage to pick up your items you can keep 3 of them.

diaring.gifRing of Life vs. Ring of Duelling

Many people choose to use a Ring of Duelling rather than a Ring of Life. Most do this because they often forget their Glory Amulet, and so they are stuck at the altar they choose to teleport to. This is no longer a problem, with the release of the Lumbridge Home Teleport Spell, which requires no runes and will teleport you straight outside a bank. But they still argue, "But what if I forget my Glory again before the spell has recharged?" (it requires 30 minutes before you can cast it again) The answer to this is your Teleport Tablet! Why not just use that to teleport to your house, then teleport to a bank from there, using either a mounted Glory Amulet, or a Portal. So put away that Duelling Ring, and grab a Ring of Life.

superenergy_pot.gifRun Forest, run! :P

A very popular way of speeding up your runecrafting, is by using super energy potions to restore your energy. Normal energy pots will also work, although you will have to drink 2 doses for every dose of super energy potion. You can usually find sellers of these potions on the forums, or you can make them yourself with Avantoe and Mort Myre Fungi. The super energy potion restores 20% per dose.

saradomin_potion.gifA Little Extra

If you feel that just taking a one-click teleport is not enough protection, you may wish to bring along something extra to help you survive while in the wilderness or the abyss. For example: A shark, or other high level healing food, a prayer potion, or a Saradomin Brew(a potion that heals your hitpoints, which can also make you go over your maximum hitpoints, and also greatly boosts your defence).

After reading this guide IÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢m sure you will want to go out there and try it out, so happy Runecrafting!

I've seen this before...

Did you re post it? <_<

Yes somehow it was removed from this forum... :? This is all explained in the first sentence. #-o

Ew, did you have to re-write the whole thing.

Very nice guide but I disagree in one point.. About the patches; I think the green patch is the most dangerous of those 3. If the pkers see you they just wait there and there, there is no skeletons to attack them. They are free to attack you..

99 ranged | 99 magic | 99 defence | 99 hitpoints

Remember, it's just a game

Feel free to add me on RS. :) Always ready for a chat.

Whats weird is that I've crafted over 15,000 nature runes in the abyss and I've never seen the Abyss Passage :-k (the one that requires no skill)

Nice guide though. Two thumbs up!

I've only seen it once when I was collecting a giant pouch, and it's not even posted on the Offical Runescape Knowledge Base, so I don't know what to think... :|

Luckily no, I had saved it as a notepad document, although I did have to add the Abyssal Passage part again, I didn't get around to adding that to the notepad copy. :wall:

It is the safest way if the PKers don't know that you are there because most PKers are facing south and they won't have time to spin the camera angle around and entangle you in time. If they do see you/attack you, most people will just switch worlds anyway. :)

Hmm I think I'll start Runecrafting again.

Great guide. :)

*thumbs up*

P.S. May i Suggest using the edgeville dungeon teleport in the Ancient Magicks Spellbook? It allows you to teleport to edgeville dungeon and not risk your glories. :). Plus you could also use the ancient spells to seek revenge on those pesky PKers.

Thats probably because you never went far enough in the abyss. The passage is ALWAYS ALWAYS on the opposite end of the abyss from where you are spawned when you enter it. Try it

Nice guide! =D>

I've got 1 question though: While I'm in the Abyss, there are some different obstacles, like you've explained. I also see a thing called 'Obstacle', with no option (like Mine, Cut, ..). Still, I see people going through. What is it, and how can I get through?

Very nice guide- I have a few thoughts/comments/suggestions.

Instead of pickaxe I wield air staff and carry a law. Not everybody has access to house tablets and I am sure nobody wants to take any more room than necessary- lol To get in the inner circle- I thieve by "Distracting the Eyes" I find this the fastest for me- and the fail rate is very quick, it seems than if I do fail I can try it again 2 or 3 times in the same amount of time as failing the any other obstacle once (this is my opinion and not based on any facts =) )

I know some people that take 2 sharks every trip (I am too cheap to give up that precious inventory spot) and others who wear mystic gloves because they are frequent slayer monster drops.

Also- I wear a ring of dualing instead of a life (I never ever seem to end up with 10% of my hp for that stupid ring to save my wagon- lol) and for some reason- I always, always, always forget to exchange my uncharged glory for a fully charged one. And the walk from the Nat alter to the gnome glider is not a fun one!

The dual ring instead of glory works great- and only adds 30 seconds to your runecrafting run (I know 30 seconds adds up after a billion trips, but to many it is easier than trying to buy another 80k Ammy of Glory- and if you only have 1 Glory- it is probably faster than charging it every 4 trips)

One last note- if you do get pked- get to Edgy as fast as you can- your pouches can NOT be picked up and if you are quick you can pick them up again- and usually a lot of ess also

Cheers

Thanks, and using the Ancient Magicks method is noted in the "Different Methods" Section of the guide. I'll try and get some pctures soon. :)

That is because when you enter the abyss, the obstacles are different for everyone (you may see someone using the wrong action on an obstacle, for example a person using the mining action on the eyes.). They will actually be entering the Abyssal Rocks in their game while on your game it appears to be something different. So concerning the blockages, there is no way to get past them, it's just another player has an obstacle in his game where the blockage is on yours. (I'll add a picture of the blockages soon).

Feel free to PM me if you still don't understand. :)

There are other forms of teleport which only take up once space such as an ectophial and the elf teleport crystal which can be used aswell. The reason I suggest bringing a pickaxe is because from my experience of using the abyss, the closest obstacle to me will either be the Abyssal Rocks, or the Abyssal Gap. So the faster I can be into the Inner Abyss the better I say. Also remember the inner abyss is a smaller circle, which means that you have to run/walk a shorter distance then what you would by running in the outer abyss. And also the fact that the monsters are attacking you while you're running the extra distance to the eyes could cause more loss in time if you have to eat to make up for it later.

There is no real reason to bring food or an anti-poison potion, because the moment you are attacked you simply click your form of teleport and you're safe. If they choose to teleblock you first you simply continue running. Black vambraces provide more magic defense bonus than mystic gloves, and remember you're a runecrafter, you can afford the extra 5k for black vambraces. lol :P

Ring of life may seem like a waste to some people, but it's not just for the PKers, it's for the monsters aswell. If you're getting hammered by a bunch of monsters while you're trying to get through an obstacle, you arn't going to think of teleporting out using your tablet, so the ring can save you sometimes. Also the fact that their max hit is around 11(I think, Haven't tested it  ), you have a pretty good chance of being hit to below 10% of your total hitpoints. If you forget your charged glory amulet, just use your other form of teleport to get back to a bank. If you don't want to waste a teleport tablet or law rune (remember you're a runecrafter, you're rich \' ) if you kindly ask a fellow runecrafter using the abyss, they will usually bring you some runes to help you teleport back to a bank.

The duel ring method is noted in the "Different Methods" section of the guide. On a side note, if you only have 1 glory, you shouldn't be using the glory amulet method, it will take up an enormous amount of time recharging your ammy every 4 trips. :|

Yes, they will appear for a short while, also try to get back as fast as you can to pick up your god book and boots of lightness. Note: If you die your god cape will disappear as soon as it touches the ground, so you're looking at a long trip back to the Mage Arena to get your cape back. :(

very nice guide on the normal abyss, but what about the other two?

06aug09131229sc4.th.png

A pic of the random abyss, a random you get when your teleing. You can use that pic if you want. Include a little on it, like what you have to do.

Also dont forget the other Abyss, the one through the fairy rings, ALR. Include monster levels, some good drops and mabye training tips like safespots ect.
