Ultimate Ranged Training guide for Free Players!

Hello and welcome to my guide.

I got quite sick of some guides who say they are for free players who like to train Ranged. Some of them are far from perfect, of course this guide wont be perfect as well.

Ive been a free player up to now (early 2007 when this was typed). And always Ive been looking for guides who could help me with spots etc. Most of these guides didnt really help me. Or were only for mains/pures.

So, Ive been looking quite hard to find spaces to train which are good or less good. Try them and youll see!

5.0 Training Spots for Mains

Some tips:

- Use Short Bow, its a lot faster then long Bow.

- Accurate/Rapid => See section [7.0].

- Use the best bonus you can have, it makes a small difference.

Lets make it as cheap as possible:

Start with a Short Bow, on level 20, you take a Willow Short Bow, and on 30, you use a Maple Short Bow.

From 1 till 20 Ranged, it takes 4470 experience, thats 1118 hits. Isnt to much and easy to get.

From 20 till 30 is 8893 experience. Thats 2224 hits. Thats still easy aswell.

From 30 till 40 is 23861 experience. Thats 5966 hits. Thats quite a lot, but still very easy.

Now you have unlocked every Range-requirement for free players.

- Bronze arrows are good for training. For leaving on the floor and picking up.

- Iron arrows are good for training. For picking up. May cost a bit when leaving on the floor.

- Steel arrows are good for training. For picking up. Will cost a lot when leaving on the floor.

- Mithril arrows arent training arrows. They cost to much.

- Adamant arrows arent training arrows. These cost hands full of money!

[Level 1-20]

Chickens are very easy! They do not hit, so no other requirements needed.

Each Chicken has 3 hitpoints. Thats 12 experience each Chicken. And you can take your arrows.

Best places are: Champions Guild (Only if you can enter it, 32 Quest Points needed.), Lumbridge coop and Falador coop.

[Level 1-40]

Men in the house in Edgeville.

Fast experience aswell. Each man has 7 hitpoints. You can pick up your arrows. You have a small safespot when you range over the heap of hay.

[Level 10-40]

Monks in the Monastary. They are a bit spreaded and can be quite populated. But good experience. You can pick up your arrows.

[Level 1-40/50]

Goblin Village! Each Goblin has around 12 hitpoints. You can pick up your arrows and are quite fast experience. Though, they are a bit scattered. And maybe a bit defense is needed since they can hit quite often.

[Level 20-70]

Minotaur in Stronghold of Security. 70 may seem high, but it isnt. You can really stay long here! These drop Bronze and Iron arrows, so you can stay quite long here.

The level 12 Minotaur dont have a safespot, the level 27 have a safespot. A small fense.

The experience can be quite slow because it's multi and often crowded.

minotaursafespotsx6.png

[Level 40-60]

Dark Wizards at the beginning of Varrock when you enter in from the South around Stonehenge. You can pick up your arrows. Though, it might be very crowded.

[Level 40-60]

Dark Wizards in level 7 Wilderniss. Go from Edgeville a bit north and quite a bit west.

Take a teleport, food and keep your hitpoints above 1/3 of your total hitpoints.

You can pick up your arrows. Disclaimer is the pking. Though, you wont see them often.

wizardswildyxi3.png

[Level 40-60]

Varrock Guards on rooftop of Castle. There are safespots and you can pick up your arrows. Though, this is a boring place to train.

[Level 40-70]

White Knights in Falador Castle. On the 2nd floor, there are safespots behind chairs, and at the torture room. You can pick up your arrows and are quite fun to train at. Their armor can be quite frustrating. Not advised when not using safspots.

whiteknightspotmg4.png

[Level 50-60]

Zombies in Edgeville Dungeon. You can pick up arrows, but it is adviced you have quite some defense. You can stay very long. But training can get quite boring. The Zombies are a bit spreaded, but quite good experience.

[Level 60-70]

Moss Giants in wilderniss. Their are almost no people, but training can be quite slow. Keep hp above 1/3 and take teleport runes. Though, it's above level 30 wilderniss. Be carefull of pkers! And you can't take much arrows with you in case you would die.

[Level 65-99]

Lesser Demons. You may pick up arrows. Pretty drops. But to crowded. Quite boring, and once you get hit, you can be damaged hard!

Lesser Demons (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7) (8) (9)

lessersafespot7dq4.png

[Level 60-80]

Black Knights. The big room in Black Knights Fortress. The table is the safespot. And you can pick up your arrows. Though, it can be very boring!

[Level 60-99]

Hobgoblins on the small island next to the Crafting Guild. Stand on the cowfield. Youll lose your arrows, so use bronze. Quite fun experience. Tale an Air Staff and Law Runes with you. For Law Runes etc.

[Level 50-99]

On White Mountain, range the Fortress Guards of the Black Knights Fortress. Youll lose your arrows so use Bronze. Its good experience. But not to much Guards (3).

fortresssafelq7.png

[Level 60-70]

Moss Giants on Crandor. Nice experience, but youll need a lot defense. You can pick up the arrows, but the drops are good aswell.

mossgiantsspotjb6.png

[Level 75-99]

Lesser Demons deep wilderniss. Not much people. Though, it's very dangerous. Almost no safespots, level 40+ wilderniss, and the pkers. You can't take to much arrows with you. There are better places.

6.0 Training spots for Pures

For this I suppose you have 1 defense. Safety will be very important for you!

[Level 1-30]

Chickens. It still goes fast. And they dont hit! So keep training their!

[Level 1-40]

Cows. They have 8 hitpoints. Good experience, and you can sell the cowhides for new money.

[Level 10-50]

Monks in the Monastary. Can be populated, but these can heal you and have a pretty amount hitpoints. Arrows can be picked up.

[Level 20-45]

Goblin Village. Youll need higher ranged for this to be able to kill them faster. They can hit quite a lot on 1 defense. You can stay a bit longer though.

[Level 65-99]

Lesser Demons again. But they can hit hard on you when you are not using safespots.

Lesser Demons (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7) (8) (9)

[Level 40-70]

White Knights. Second floor when using safespots!

You can train here very long!

whiteknightspot2rn2.png

[Level 40-99]

Hobgoblins on the small island next to Crafting Guild. Its the best though it will cost a lot!

[Level 40-99]

Fortress Guards are the best as well. Same as above.

[Level 30-75]

Minotaur in Stronghold of Security! Stay as long as possible! Its the paradise for low-budget pures! They keep dropping Iron arrows!

Use the fence as a safespot.

Of course, pures have less chances. But its still possible for them to train ranged quite fast (though it will cost a bit).

7.0 Accurate or Rapid: The discussion

Well, their has been quite some discussion about which style you should train on: Accurate or Rapid. Let's see both sides, and it's your choise which one you shall use.

Accurate: This style is slower then Rapid. But it's more accurate. Which means: You won't hit as much 0's and you are able to hit higher then when you use Rapid. But, the negative part, it's a bit more slower then while training on Rapid.

Rapid: This style is a bit faster then Accurate. The negative part is, you will not hit as often as while using Accurate and your arrows will break more often. Though, the experience is a bit faster.

=> For the same amount of arrows, you'll get more experience while ranging on Accurate.

=> If you want the same experience on Rapid, you'll need to use more arrows. So it will cost you more. But you will get the same experience faster.

=> If you want speed, then it will cost you more (Rapid). If you want to spend less, use Accurate.

It's your choise what you want to use. The main fact is: Money.

7.0 Shops and Market

Here is some information about the prices and shops for the arrows you want. For free players that is.

Varrock Ranged Shop: Lowe's Archery Emporium.

Bronze Bolts: Cheap

Bronze Arrows: Cheap

Iron Arrows: Cheap

Steel Arrows: Medium

Mithril Arrows: Quite expensive

Adamant Arrows: Expensive

Pro's:

- They have all arrows.

- They have all bows.

- They have a lot Bronze Bolts in stock.

Contra:

- The Bronze arrows are almost always sold out.

Rimmington Ranged Shop: Brian's Archery Supplies.

Steel Arrows: Cheap

Mithril Arrows: Cheap

Adamant Arrows: Quite cheap

Pro's:

- Arrows are cheap.

- The shop has a lot arrows.

Contra:

- They don't have all Arrows/Bows.

Market

On the market of Runescape (meaning buying from other players), you can do good deals.

You can buy more arrows in a short amount of time (like buying 49,000

Pro's from buying on the market of Runescape:

- You can buy a lot more arrows in a short amount of time.

Contra's from buying on the market of Runescape:

- In 95% of the cases, the arrows will cost more then when you buy in the shop.

To give you a view how much the arrows +/- cost on the market:

Bronze Arrows: 15-16 gp each

Iron Arrows: 20-25 gp each

Steel Arrows: 35-40 gp each

Mithril Arrows: 65-75 gp each

Adamant Arrows: 150-165 gp each

Hope this helps a bit more. I will update this even more! But for now, this is the first version.

A nice guide! =D>

Kinda hard to read though :? I'm easily lost in huge oceans of words.

My only suggestion is to make use of text sizing, bold/italic, and spacing!

Needs pictures of locations!

9/10

:P

I united Mongolia, sent my Mongol Horde across Asia and made it to Europe...

Then my mom vacuumed the room, turned off the Genesis and thus ended my hopes of world conquest.

Great guide, you should add a bit more spacing.

Add pics too, I know this is a very long guide, so only some training spots should get pics ( the best ones perhaps? )

Also the picture of the best thing to wear would be helpful.

9/10 ( highest I've ever given )

Nice guide.

But add pictures, and rapid is faster xp.

Mosses on crandor have TONS of safespots, so no defense needed. But wilderness mosses are perfect (no safespots though). You might want to add them.

Rapid gives less experience for the same amount of arrows.

And I'll add the Mossies. Tomorrow with the pics.

Pics are comming people -.-

Edit: You are a free player. All time in the world... For most...

There is a level 12 Minotaur fence in the north room, close to where you start, but fewer Minotaurs there, so it can get very busy.

Going for the accuracy amulet, means beginning the quest with Mizgog in the Wizards tower, then going for every Imp you see. They tend to scatter your arrows by running around a lot, and can also teleport away, though often not very far.

A magic spell, either a wind strike, or preferably a curse if you can use them (almost any attack or curse class spell will do), can be used to "set" your target into postion against a safespot barrier, to avoid scattering arrows as they approach.
