Well, I had some goals...then Jagex threw me a curve ball that I was unable to resist. I've been using all the play time I have available for Dungeoneering. I've found this new addition to the game to be very enjoyable.

One thing that almost every MMORPG had that RuneScape lacked is Group Instanced Dungeon Raiding. The closest thing available was group boss killing, if you want to consider camping/farming a single monster spawn as a close comparison to Instanced Raids. Dungeoneering fits the gap with near-perfection. I have very few complaints with this new activity.

The fact that they made it a skill rather than a mini game was a great idea. The most common thing done in RuneScape is train skills. Mini-games don't get nearly the same amount of time players give to mini game (aside from games with xp rewards like Pyramid Plunder or Stealing Creation). The fact that this activity is a skill will generate a continuous flow of players actively participating in the skill. If were a mini game, the population playing the game would be nowhere close to what would be ideal. So I think Jagex made a great decision in making this activity a skill. One or two years down the road, this will still be an activity that people will be playing often because people will want those levels. This wouldn't be the case if it were a mini game.

The activity itself was implemented very well. I love how they incorporated a player's skills into each raid. It gives players with both high and low stats a challenging experience.

Changed I'd like to see:

  • Improvements with 'Solo Raiding' As this is a skill, I think people should be able to participate by themselves if they choose. I think some better reward rates would've been nice to have.
  • Better Grouping System I know Jagex was trying to prevent people that wanted to 'grind' levels, but it made it confusing for many players. Either a tweaking to the floor system, or a better way to educate players would be great.

Things I'd like to see in the future:

  • Larger Dungeons, Larger Groups I love the way things are now, but I know they could get bigger. As people train this skill more, I'm sure high level updates will be in its future. I'd love to see dungeons that offer larger rooms and larger bosses. I think it'd be great to have HUGE, massive raids that' would require 8-10 players. Perhaps in the distant future, Dameonheim won't be the only place to train Dungeoneering?

MY DUNGEONEERING RATING: 5 of 5

The only reason this is being trained is because it is indeed classified as skill, and thus awarded skill levels. The few that like this activity, such as yourself, would probably end up playing it a lot even if it was not a skill.

Making it as a skill was a very bad decision in my opinion, but I'm not commenting to rant about your post and make it into my own blog.

So, I do agree with the fact that it needs to be optimized for solo purposes. Hell, bosses outside of dungeoneering have always been thought of as group expenditures, such as dungeoneering, but a fair amount of people prefer to solo, for a variety of reasons. Once again, this is the same in dungeoneering. I'm one of those people, as I don't like have to constantly form/join a group and to have to deal with those people who decide to get armor and whatnot. It's also annoying to have to join/form a party where we're all on the same floor. It'll just be quicker and easier to get up and go anytime at all the solo way. I could imagine that it's slower, so in all honesty I would like to see the exp adjusted to be roughly the same as a multiperson dungeon, however, it still would probably be slower any which way.

As for the Better grouping system and larger stuff; I wouldn't mind seeing that put into place. No comments there.

Jagex decided to make this skill the first of the now 25 skills to extend beyond level 99. Now gathering all those extra exps (all 104m total of them) will mean something much more than simple rank. Though as of now, it doesn't help. It's like 120 firemaking at this point. I hope the next batch of updates for this skill will see much improvement; mainly in the high leveled aspects and solo dungeeon aspects.

I give the skill a 2/5 as of now.
