#5451040 gold farming a problem.

Posted by Sumpta on 19 September 2013 - 10:25 AM in Old School RuneScape

I highly doubt the people buying the items know they are coming from "gold farming" accounts.

Either you're being sarcastic or naïve.

The trouble is, we don't have much of a choice. Getting levels simply requires tons of raw materials that no legit player is going to farm. It's how rs is built. I currently need 100k pure essence, and that's for just a few rc levels. I'd love to buy them from a legit player, but chances are I'll get them from a bot, or at best, a mercher who got them from a bot/gold farming account. Not sure how it can be helped tbh.

I can't believe how lucky I got today. I've been doing a few clues since a week or two, not even one per day. And I got:

Never thought I'd see the day...

Also found a blue phat yesterday and another blue one today. Just saw them lying around passing by, without hunting for them. On the flip side, got 91 thieving today, not one sceptre yet even though I'm opening all the chests . (Not that I'm complaining, obviously.)

#5422430 99 all skills?

Posted by Sumpta on 28 June 2013 - 03:00 PM in Old School RuneScape

Weird: how even in the old version of rs with current population also a race to 200m starts... While it wasn't there in the real pre 07 rs. I wonder what made the population change so much over the years.

I've been wondering about this too. The other day, I was trying to explain to a friend the much more casual gaming attitude the general rs population had before the 99 capes came out, but he couldn't really grasp the difference with the current attitude.

The simple fact of the matter is that the 07 players are coming into it with years of rs knowledge and years of changed attitude to the game as well. They were bound to just transpose it to 07. Hell, I'm guilty too, in just a few months I've built an account on 07 that took me like a year back in 2006.

I think it's too bad we didn't get a version of RS from before the 99 capes were introduced. Then again, maybe the 99 and 200m "disease" is so embedded in the players' minds that the absence of capes wouldn't have mattered at this point anyway.

/OT ruminations

Found the scythe yesterday evening while slaying elves and the pumpkin just now while fishing. Didn't hunt for either, so I guess I got pretty lucky .

I've just been looking into the quests, and safespotting seems to be a good option indeed. Not sure if my 10 mage'll do any damage though .

Cheese also spawns in Aggie's house in Draynor.

Ape Atoll is same stock as Al Kharid, plus D Scim

Some tips for early lvling:
Generally, it's a "waste of time" to train low levelled skills w/o quests. A lot of quests will send you from lvl 1 to lvl 30+ without much effort. Lots of time/money saved.

Recommended quests for quick lvls/convenience:
Knight's sword (1-29 smithing)
The Digsite (1-31 mining)
The Grand Tree (gnome gliders; lots of attack and magic XP)
Tree Gnome Village (spirit trees)
Holy Grail (1-31 def; 1-29 prayer)
Tourist Trap (1-26 agility)
Waterfall (1-30 att and str)
Witch's House (10-24ish HP)
Fishing contest (safe shortcut underneath white wolf mountain)

I haven't "trained" attack at all and I'm already lvl 41. Excalibur's slightly worse than a mith scimmy and has a special attack too. Nice cheap sword until I get a rune/dragon scimmy.

I plan on doing Shadow of the Storm next for 1-27 ranged :D

You can also get 1k hunter and slayer XP in the Varrock museum basement.

Currently 19 herblore just from quests too. Still lots more to do :D

Thanks for the list! Quick question: how did you defeat the 100+ monsters in those quests? (Holy Grail, Grand Tree, Tree Village)

I just spent a ridiculous amount of time fishing shrimp, only to burn nearly all of them. Also had to run for my life from a lvl 26 guard. I... I don't think I can do all of this again...

Also, the game crashed about half an hour in and when I tried to log in again, I couldn't type my username or password. Yay Macs.

Whining aside, I enjoyed the trip down nostalgia/memory lane.

I just voted after all. I decided that if Jagex isn't doing this earnestly, there's no reason why I should. Like them, I'm grabbing the advantages I can get, they can deal with the consequences if in a few months' time, only a fraction of the voters actually plays.

If you had any interest maybe you should have voted anyways. Since you didn't vote, I assume you didn't want it from the beginning. You don't have the right to [bleep].

The vote isn't over yet. People have been given time to consider it, taking that time is not a crime or giving up any sort of rights.

Maybe more of us should hold out and see what other bones Jagex is prepared to throw us for our votes.

Ugh, I'm really torn about getting my vote in.

Jagex is going full steam ahead, regardless of what the community decides, so I might just as well vote, get the 'early' access and the free month... but all the while, I'm still kind of against the idea. And I hate going along with their cheap ploys. Principles and all.

My gut reaction is not to participate. When I started playing in 2005, everybody was complaining about the community and the deterioration "caused by miniclip". I remember feeling like I was so late to the party already. All this nostalgia is pointless. Also, I'd rather not get drawn into starting a new character from scratch and get 99-crazed again. Admittedly, I would love to roam the old game for a bit. Sadly, as a level 3, I wouldn't roam far .

Jagex clearly wants this badly, if they are promising to give everybody who votes the first month membership for free. Honestly, they're not gauging interest, they're advertising this heavily. That's not necessarily bad, I guess, but it does repulse me a bit.

Still, interesting times. I really wonder where this game is going.

On a sidenote, does anybody else think it strange Jagex has so few back-ups left of the game?

Apparently, Jagex is looking into the degradation time issue. Mod Edam posted in a RSOF thread yesterday.

^ That argument can be turned around just as easily. Making pop equipement heavily outclassed by nex gear renders the whole effort a bit... pointless. I don't need the armour to be better than nex's, but I'd like to get *some* use out of it.

Don't get me wrong, I love POP, but I'm not seeing much use in continuing it, aside from the fun part. Not too long from now, when I have all the stories done, all the upgrades and buildings, there will be very little left to draw me to my port. This wasn't a small update to the game: it was highly anticipated, it was well developped, it was one of the few that was received very positively by a player base that usually finds fault in everything... but it'll be dead as can be within months after its release.

#5362930 11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports

Posted by Sumpta on 05 February 2013 - 09:30 AM in General Discussion

Ok .. Wasn't there recently a patch note that said they fixed the issue with special missions disappearing? I could have sworn I read that somewhere..

Anyway.. Just had this lovely mission come in on reset ..
Posted Image

But it disappeared after a different trio story mission returned.. (Biologist, Convict, Missionary..) Doesn't make any sense that it would remove all my specials, especially since they're Whaler, Assassin, and Occultist. Any idea? :(.

I've ranted about this earlier too. The day before yesterday, 4 special voyages (Biologist, Whaler) vanished after my voyages from the day before came back and before I had managed to send them out. They both spent the day sitting upstairs in the bar with nothing to do...

When did they announce the patch? It's not fixed as far as I can see. I've taken to doing my special missions first thing, so they get back before reset time and don't interfere with the special voyages of the next day. It's not always possible though, especially in the Pincers with its long voyage times.

Honestly, the way I see it, for the average RS player who wants quick returns, it's a rather big investment. Why bother if there's no profit?

-10mins/day
-no gp needed
-halfway to 99 in just 3 of the 25 skills

If that is too much for you then have fun in you're black dhide.

No need to make it this personal. I'm talking about the average scaper. Skillers (like I've always been fyi) actually *need* those average "lazy" scapers to make profits. Jagex promoted PoP as a way for skillers to profit, similar to MTK... I do admit however that profiting isn't necessarily strictly limited to making money.

While I get the fear of making a boss/Nex obsolete, surely the same goes for PoP? If the armours turn out not to be worth it, ports will be dead very soon, with nobody wanting to invest months of time into the endeavour.

I tend to trust that Jagex will come around and adjust this situation. Eventually.

#5360098 11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports

Posted by Sumpta on 29 January 2013 - 08:42 AM in General Discussion

I'm getting super annoyed by losing special voyages because of adventurers who haven't gotten in port again from missions from the day before.

Yesterday, I had the biologist and the whaler, sent them out, but they only got back after the reset hour. This morning, I had them both again for new missions, among which a coveted scroll mission... I click the ships returned from the special voyages to set them up for the special voyages... only to have lost them. Edit: didn't lose them all, whaler stuck around after all. The biologist, however, did disappear.

This will only be worse in the pincers, when special voyages take 18 hours. It also makes icons to attract specific adventurers a really bad idea.

Today after reset the dropdown menu said Whaler was in port, but there was no special voyages available =S. Had to use an adventurer reroll to get some.

I had the same thing happening to me yesterday. Convict was in port, no missions. And I could have sworn when I'd been on earlier that day, there were two different adventurers with 3 missions in total. Glitch?

#5358181 11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports

Posted by Sumpta on 24 January 2013 - 03:48 PM in General Discussion

Barmaid's tip: 800 jade, triple 5.8k mission, success, got 1040 thanks to merchant.
Whaler: 600 jade, 14k SF, (sending out tonight)
First mission rolled: 600 jade, triple 6k something (sent out)

Today is a GOOD day. I'm getting me a load of ship updates.

#5357661 11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports

Just bought my fourth ship. Yay! 53% into the Bowl. A bit behind on y'all, but I feel I'm keeping up quite decently all things considered. I've completed all the story missions for the region and all my crew has been replaced, save one cherrywood merchant, so now I'm getting the remaining ship updates.

I'm really low on scrolls (5 successful missions so far) and trade goods though, so I'd better start getting into those.

Got my fourth 10k captain today, after 1 cb and 2 speed guys, finally a seafaring one.

I'm quite pleased, even if he's hiding his identity.

Really? I already noticed the difference in the Bowl. Often I only get around 2 jade base crewmen per day. Took me a week to get a few combat ones. I did get judges, jade golems and jade traders in abundance though.

#5355456 11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports

Posted by Sumpta on 17 January 2013 - 04:15 PM in General Discussion

Those are still really good stats though. I rarely get all three ships in the 90s at the same time.

Are voyage reqs a bit easier once you get the fourth ship? I remember that they dropped considerably for a little while upon getting the third.

Black Marketeer offered me jade twice so far, around 110 each.

#5355066 11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports

Posted by Sumpta on 16 January 2013 - 09:30 AM in General Discussion

So, is the general consensus now to first get crew + most ship updates before saving the 10k jade for the fourth ship? That's the route I've decided on in any case. I now have rudder, morale hull + 8 crew/2 judges. I'm having trouble finding good crew, got only 2 standard jade crew members in the last 45 rolls.

I've also quit trying to stuff all voyages in a day by doing bamboo etc. Currenly only doing jade and cherrywood, around 10 missions a day in total, rerolling unattainable/superfluous ones like trait voyages.
