  1. A concept of un-soloable monster wouldn't necessarily mean an increase in combat strength. Simply just an increase in special effects..

     

    For example. Lets take a monster like the Kalphite Queen, and the sake of the argument lets make all her attacks single, not multi.

     

    Now she will be shredding out 30's but only to one player at a time. Each of her attacks now heals a 1:1 ratio with the damage she inflicts and each attack she picks a random target in the room.

     

    Only with a team of people could you kill a monster such as that. A single player could not be able to keep up with eating, and the monster healing massive amounts at the same time.

     

    Something like that would be un-soloable and wouldn't make the KO factor on a player any greater.

  2. As expalined above, the problem is, "Future High Level content rewarding the Player" is often using high level skills. But those high level skills are often "purchasable" and in turn creates the problem all over again.

     

    As seen in this herblore update. Something that "rewards the player" still requires money to get that skill high enough to "reward the player". Its fine and dandy on paper, but it fails to provide anything to players who dont have the levels at the update. It makes leveling for them much much harder.

     

    I would rather see updates "rewarding the player" in which all players could participate, but higher level skillers would have a significant advantage.

     

    One example: A Redwood Tree, which can be fletched into a Redwood bow.

     

    There is a redwood tree somewhere in runescape. Players must cut down the entire tree to get 1 log, and any player can start cutting it even at level 1 Woodcutting. The advantage is, it might take a level 1 woodcutter an hour to cut the tree down 100%, while it might only take a level 99 woodcutter 5 mintues.

     

    Something like that is an example where everyone can participate, but people who have much higher skills have a clear advantage in the form of time. Money would have no factor at all.

     

    That type of content is something we need more of, rather than things that are based on set levels. Since set level requirements typically have an ill effect on the economy, or nobility of a skill.

  3. I just completed my goal of 99 Slayer and want to go for a new 99, so I was wondering how I should go about getting 99 smithing? I'm only 71 right now haha

     

    I've got about 270M, I'd prefer not to spend it all though. I'm open to any methods or suggestions

    It all depends on how much of a "rush" you are in getting 99.

     

    Buying addy bars and making addy arrowtips/platebodies will cost you about 50-60M, give or take a couple million.

     

    If you want to go an alternative route, you can get roughly 250 SC hammers. Using the hammers smith will cost you half of the normal cost, so about 20-30M. The nice thing about the hammers is ex/hr getting the hammers is pretty equal to smithing the bars normally.

     

    So it all boils down to if you like SC or not. Both methods will take you about the same time, so if you dont mind Stealing Creation I would go that route as it will save you money. If you dont like it, just smack some bars and make the best of it.

     

    PS. Either Mith Bolts or Iron Knives until you can make arrowtips. Arrowtips sell for more gp than platebodies, but plates are faster. So its your personal choice on what you want to make. The difference between arrows and plates is around 5M when all is said and done.

  4. Quick question: If you drink a sarabrew, does overload potion keep stats maxed?

     

    While you guys are aguing about the update, Ill answer this question you all missed ;)

     

    This is how the overload potion works.

    You drink it.

    It drains 50 HP and Keeps your stats maxed for 5 minutes.

     

    Now lets say you drink a sarabrew. You stats WILL decrease HOWEVER, as part of the potion mechanic when your stats normally would degrade (once every 60 seconds), your stats will be restored back to max again.

     

    Another example. BGS. Lets say you get into a PvP fight with someone who has a BGS and you drink a overload potion before hand. If they BGS special you for a 60, sometime within the next 60 seconds or less, the potion will automatically restore your defense back to its maximum level negating the 60 special damage.

     

    Both situations have been tested by my friend and I, so esentially an overload will make sure you are in "God Mode" once every minute for 5 mintutes. Any combat stat reducing during that time will be restored at the minute checkpoints.

    Perhaps, but the dark bow is also the only weapon that hits 100%. So I can see their reasoning for doing so.

     

    Let us hope this is a sign that Claws and AGS might also be changed to 55%+ in the near future. Which would be a VERY good thing in terms of further PvP balance.

     

    But this is an intresting update to say the least. :thumbup:

  6. Yeah, like Krampell said, for spirit shards. I still think that they should have kept buy-x or even added "Buy 50,000" for Spirit shards alone, but that's moot and not really on topic.

     

     

     

    Programming the "Buy-500" to be universal is way easier and shorter than having to code it for stackable items. The items probably have a flag indicating whether it's stackable or not, but it still takes longer to code, and what's the end result? Practically nothing, really.

     

     

     

    They can just have buy-x for everything, like it was before.

     

     

     

    As stated a few posts up, buy x is simply not possible with the current shop system. Well im sure its "possible" if they worked on it enough, but it would be a coding nightmare.

     

     

     

    Think about it. Shop stock changes prices every few items bought. So if you were to buy-x, for 100 items, it would buy 1 at 5gp, 1 at 7gp, 1 at 9gp, ect... all the way up for 100 items.

     

     

     

    It would be a literal nightmare to code something like that, and also for the player. Imagine if you went to a shop and said, oh 100 stock, its 5gp each right now, so if I buy-x 100 thats 500gp right? Wrong. Because the shop price increases, you'd be spending easily over TRIPLE of what you thought you would pay origionally.

     

     

     

    Spirit shards are the only item im aware of in the game that have a static price, and dont change from 25gp. However, they used a simplicity in designing the shops so they all funtion alike. So the buy x was not possible on the shards because its cannot be in the programming for the other shops. They could have coded the shop on its own, but my guess is there is other technically limitations to this, or simply takes to much time to do.

     

     

     

    Onto the OT question..

     

    Why is the buy 500 on non-stackable items? Simple.

     

     

     

    It's there because they use the same shop system for ALL of their shops. So the buy 10, 500, ect.. options stay there regardless of what you are purchasing. The game dosent care IF you can buy 500 of the item at one time, it simply cares that the option is there so you CAN buy 500 at one time if its possible to do so. With harpoons its not possible to do so. See how it works?

  7. It's pretty stupid to only let P2P'ers pay for a server. There is no reason at all to limit it. People who want a server, should be able to get one. If you're afraid that there will be too many servers... then the problem will solve itself. Once the initial rush is over, a few good servers will remain, and people will play those.

     

     

     

    Limiting it to P2P doesn't do anything but annoy people.

    I dont think renting servers would cause it to turn into a "ghost town". Infact, it would cause quite the opposite to happen. Those who do not wish to pay for a server anymore, simply stop paying and the server is turned offline.

     

     

     

    Think of it like Vent Servers. There are some vent servers that have hundreds of users, and some that have 2. All you have to do is join a "popular" RSC server and it wont be a ghost town at all.

     

     

     

    This method also has another benefit. Those who are rich in real life can run a server, and those who do not have the money to fork over for one, can take in the luxary of those willing to pay to run them. So in this case, everyone benefits. :thumbup:

     

     

     

    So yes, after the inital rush, alot of the servers will die down, and alot take offline. But all the ones taken offline simply means the ones still online will get more populated.

     

     

     

    This update gives players a choice they never had before. A way to experience "old school" content without limits. So now the ones who complain RS was "ruined" by the RWT updates, or love to cheat, lor ost all their items and gave up, and those who dont want to spend hours to have the best things in a game, all have a place to go to have some fun.

  10. Okay, if that's the case then, I imagine they'd have those spots set up very far away as to not result in their mingling.

     

     

     

    It's likley, but also don't forget almost every single cut-scene has a fixed camera angle. So in theory you could have one half of a room one cut-scene, camera in the middle, and the other half of room another cut-scene, and never realize both were in the same room.

    I still think its an addy dragon, but if its not, its DEFIANTLY a metal dragon of some sort. (See below)

    As you can see above, all metal dragons share that same common snout with the single horn. So whatever it is, it is a existing or future version of a metal type dragon. The fact it has minor differences than bronze/iron/steel/mith heads leads me more to that its something we haven't seen yet, eg. Addy.

  11. Now that we have established that I might have a good setup and invo and that I should not stay there longer than 4 hours at a time, where abouts in the GWD should I kill the avis?

    I'm all kitted up and ready for anything now really, I just need to know where I can get the optimum number of kills without having to swap my fury for the holy symbol that will be in the free slot of my invo.

     

     

     

    If you have an arma item, stronghold would be prefered. Avians are less busy inside than outside, and you also do not need a sara item inside the stronghold.

  12. They need to make spells that cut damange by 25% or 50% etc for a limited period of time for mages. That could help sort out the issue over overpowered melee weapons. Just an idea.

     

     

     

    Thats esentially what Mismic spells do. Slow your opponents attack rates down so the damage inflicted is much much slower. Instead of making GS hit half the damage, it just makes them hit half the speed. Same result, just different approach.

     

     

     

    I would be more intrested in some AoE (area of effect) spells, much like the Corp Beasts non-homing Mage attack. Spells that do not home in on a target, but rather are cast in an area rather than target a player, and hits everything in that zone.

    Judging by the information in that cache, colors of the wing, and head.. It's a pretty decent chance that location is the area where Adamantite dragons will be housed.

     

     

     

    PS. They cant share how to do it on a public area likes this, as Jagex has stated that stealing the cache is the done the same way as one steals information to make a private server. So "looking through the cache" is against the rules and could get you banned if you got caught.

    But you have to also consider we are only halfway into the storyline. So it was an easy quest? So what. Not everyquest in a storyline is going to get sigificantly harder as the story continues.

     

     

     

    Even in a book, there are periods of "downtime" in which not much exciting happens to perhaps set up the plot for a later period in the book. This is all that is happening in this quest. Its a set-up for more quests down the line.

     

     

     

    Could they skip this quest as just combine the setup with the next quest? Sure, but thats not how the author wanted it.

     

     

     

    Ignore the puzzles, and the rewards. Quests are about the storyline and the advancing plot, while puzzles and rewards are simply a by-product of those plotlines. This quest provided a fair amount of content to further prove past ideas which were just speculation, and added in some small backstory as well as advancing some plotlines. Not alot physically happened, but quite a bit was set up in the plot for future quests.

     

     

     

    Just remember this quest is meant to be played in the full series. Something that may seam un-important to us in the quest now, might be vital information when the quest series is wrapping up.

    What are are proposing is this:

     

    Because you like the Mc'donalds Hambuger more than anyting else they sell, you are proposing they should make nothing else besides a Hamburger because thats what YOU and some other people enjoy most. However this is not logical for a company to work that way. They want to appeal to alot of different audiences. It dosent matter if only 20 people like the chicken nugets (fun orb) or Big Macs (mechscape). Jagex wants to appeal to everyone by providing variety, despite the fact you only enjoy hamburgers (runescape).

     

     

     

    So again your concept of what is more imporant is biased because YOU enjoy that one game more. The majority does, but that's not to say everyone does.

     

     

     

    I was actually intoduced to runescape from an online game which was dropped by Microsoft's "Zone" network. It was a couple years and they just quit supporting it. The same is going to happen to Runescape eventually, regardless if you want it to or not. It's just the nature of all online games.

     

     

     

    So ya, Runescape is likley to be updated slighly less than it used to be, but complaining about it is like whining your fast food restaurant should just make one type of food. It's just not going to happen. Sit back and enjoy the ride while we still have one. And to be perfectly honest, if you can't enjoy it, I suggest you look for another game out there.

  16. Another alternative is create armor that has damage taken away from hit points and another stat.

     

     

     

    Example: Level 80 Full Elven 25% of damage is taken from prayer stat, 75% comes from hitpoints.

     

     

     

    Level 85 Full Drakan 15% taken from prayer, 15% taken from summoning, 10% taken from agility, 60% taken from hitpoints.

     

     

     

    In this way, you pseudo increase max hit points but only for those that are high level to wear it. Plus it doesn't take away from high hits.

     

     

     

    While this is a good idea, there are some issues with it.

     

     

     

    The problem these days is, armor which has the effects to do this are typically very rare as a monster drop. The average joe cannot afford a Sigiled Spirit Sheild. Whatever happens it has to be accessable to a large percent of the players. Otherwise it will just be another spirit shield with great effects, but hardly anyone can use it. But if it is too accessable/poweful, everyone will only use that armor, and nothing else. There has to be some sort of drawback for using it.

     

     

     

    Just an Example:

     

    Elven armor uses 70% hitpoints and 10% of your attack, str, and magic levels for damage absorption.

     

    The drawback would be, you could not hybrid in it.

     

     

     

    If it is easily accessable to everyone, you then have to make sure it dosent overpower "rare" items such as the Spirit sheilds. Shields would have to "stack" ontop the already given bonuses. In which case, you would have to make sure the "stack" wasnt to powerful.

     

     

     

    It is something that should be introduced, but if it wasnt intorduced correctly and balanced, it will just be another useful item for rich players, and everyone gets left in the dust.

    As much as I agree with you, that would mean agility would influence your combat, and combat levels would need to be added. Not that its a bad thing however. I wouldn't mind less things auto attacking me.

     

     

     

    But theres no reason it cant be tied into defense already. Your range level currently gives an offensive accuracy and strength power to your range attacks, in addition to your armor and ranged weapon bonuses. I see no reason why defense simply cannot manage both miss hits, and chances for reducing hits.

     

     

     

    Example; Defense stays the same it is now, with the added funtion of:

     

     

     

    Level 10: 5% chance to reduce hits by 5%

     

    Level 20: 10% chance to reduce hits by 5%

     

    Level 30: 10% chance to reduce hits by 10%

     

    Level 40: 15% chance to reduce hits by 10%

     

    Level 50: 15% chance to reduce hits by 15%

     

    Level 60: 20% chance to reduce hits by 15%

     

    Level 70: 20% chance to reduce hits by 20%

     

    Level 80: 25% chance to reduce hits by 20%

     

    Level 90: 25% chance to reduce hits by 30%

     

    Level 99: 30% chance to reduce hits by 30%.

     

     

     

    Current max with an AGS is around 80, so at 99 defense thats a 30% chance to cut it down to around 56.

     

     

     

    Spirit shield bounses are just added ontop of this.

  18. Anyone has trained construction and can say how much exp/h was boosted due to butler talking less?

     

    I'm not sure, but I was able to get 256k exp in 27 minutes, while making oak doors. Even if it hasn't increased by much, that's still a crapload of exp/hour.

     

    OT sorry but wouldn't oak larders be cheaper?

     

     

     

    The ammount of xp per item is based on oak planks used, not a xp for the item built. So larders (8 planks ea) = 480xp, while doors (10 planks ea) = 600 xp. So the xp per oak plank used is 60, no matter what you make.

     

     

     

    That being said, the oak doors allows you to use a normal bulter (holds 20 planks = 2 doors) rather than a larder which requires a demon butler (holds 24 planks = 3 larders). The normal bulter is 5k cheaper every 8 transactions so in theory, the normal bulter making oak doors actually saves you money, not in plank cost but in the cost to operate your bulter.

     

     

     

    While the normal bulter may take a few more transactions for the same planks, it is nowhere near enough to make up for the extra 5k you spend on the demon butler doing larders.

I say permaban these players or reset their characters...yes it's a gray area, but every time you allow something like this, you make the next questionable gaming activity more likely to be allowed...until bots and the like are back in...and the game is no longer fun for the main base of players.

     

     

     

    There is no need to ban them really. It's an issue with the game engine, and not completly the players fault. To solve the problem, one simply has to understand how it works.

     

     

     

    A player puts on melee armor, and splashes a spider. Under normal circumstances after a few mintues of combat, and no keyboard interactions, the game will auto log you. To stay logged in, players simply put a cellphone/paper-weight on a spacebar or arrow key.

     

     

     

    To solve the problem Jagex simply need to alter the log mechanic so that if you hold the same key(s) on your keyboard for 5 mintues or greater, it will no longer keep you logged in. The ingame mechanic will then kick them off. Problem solved and it hurts no-one except AFK'ers.

  20. The logic behind this is very similar to the "double ruby bolt special" event.

     

     

     

    Once in awhile on a team, if two rangers are attacking at the same exact time, and the both special a ruby bolt special at the same time, the game does not have enough time to compute that the monsters HP was lowered, thus both players hit the max special. So if 2 people both ruby bolt speced on a KBD spawn, they would both hit 48, doing a total of 96 damage.

     

     

     

    The same logic is for mining, or pretty much anything else that can be done with more than one person at a time. Your character tells the server it should spit out a rune ore at the same time as the other persons does. Your request gets there before the reply comes back that the ore is empty and thus you both get the ore.

  21. I never figured out why jagex didn't give a detailed explanation of how the ring works. It's hardly like anyone can abuse it.

     

     

     

    If Jagex has learned anything, they know they are better off not specifically saying how it works.

     

     

     

    Nobody thought you could abuse the PvP system, so Jagex told people how EP and drops are determined. Look where that ended up.

     

     

     

    Listing exactly how a ROW works, is like giving us the formula to Barrows. Eventually someone is going to find a way to abuse it.
