Isis and Cult of Luna are great, it's a pity Isis split up really, although it was probably the best time for them to split up. And I suppose if clean vocals aren't your thing, they aren't your thing, but they're not all cheesy and waily (I'm looking at you LaBrie) and neither are the riffs imo. Take a look at a band called Winds (avant-garde) maybe, the vocalist doesn't try too hard at all and he definitely isn't whiney.

Ooh checked out some more Gridlink on yt and they're actually pretty good. Gotta be in the mood for it though.
I personally cannot stand most metal vocalists that actually sing, wailing vocals with cheesy lyrics isn't my thing. Not to mention most power/folk/whatever riffs are pretty boring and cheesy too. They may have an amazing voice and range but I honestly don't care, still sounds annoying to me (the guy from Manilla Road is a nice example). Would much rather have a singer with a nice scream/grunt so it doesn't detract from the rest of the music and might even sound pretty cool.
Favourite genres would be death/brutal death/tech death/black/post/sludge metal and combinations between those, I've kind of grown out of it now though but still like it once in a while. Gorguts/Decapitated is awesome when you're in a bad mood. Same would go for Gridlink :P
You're clearly not hearing the right bands then. ;) There are plenty of clean metal vocalists who can actually sing, and not about dragons as well. And who cares if some of the riffs are simple, if it sounds good and if the lyrics actually mean something, I'll listen to it.

@Saru If you hate growls, screams, rasps etc. (which I did to start off with) there is plenty of metal with clean vocals. Power, classic, folk, even some black metal has clean vocals (Alcest count kinda as metal ^^).
Also I love Primordial, and yes, Maiden's album The Final Frontier is coming out soon, the single El Dorado is free for download on their website. And... Kamelot's 'The Great Pandemonium' music video trailer should be coming out soon! =D I am so psyched about their new album...

This isn't metal, but it comes from a predominantly metal band. Road Salt One by Pain of Salvation. Has anyone here listened to it, and if so what do they think of it? To me it sounds brilliant, and I really can't wait for Road Salt Two later this year. Sisters is amazing.
Also, I found black metal hard to get into, a bit like a wall of noise to me at the start. I listened to some Agalloch though, and that changed my perspective. I kinda went into the "blacker" stuff from there. To the Dimmu fan, I really can't help but find Dimmu realllllly boring. Although I do like Vortex's vocals. And... Rumoured Arcturus reunion with Vortex AND Garm! :D
I love Pain of Salvation, though Scarsick is my favorite. Road Salt One was.......ok, I guess. I liked Sleeping Under the Stars on that quite a bit though.
I love the cabaret influence in Sleeping Under the Stars, it's hilarious but brilliant. And Scarsick is way underrated, loads of the prog elitists look down on it because it has rapping, but I find it just as meaningful as BE.

Society is in the wrong, but the child and parents are the ones who suffer.
This is exactly what I think. Society is in the wrong, the fact that we have these rules shows that easily enough.

@SilverSword Metal offshoots are fine methinks. Also, you said my sentiments about Kamelot and Agalloch perfectly. Khan is just amazing, have you watched One Cold Winter's Night, it's brilliant. He's such a showman. But I do prefer Ghost opera to Karma, although the Elizabeth trilogy is mindblowing. I can't wait for the new album!
Also, Agalloch are the band that got me into folk and black too =D Although you could also blame that on LastFm. Also, I heat Agalloch will be recording a new album in the summer.
@alg Yeah, Twisted Mind was nice but I felt with The Scarecrow, and the Metal Operas (I haven't heard TWS or AOB yet) that Tobias took too much rein. So many of the tracks would sound better if he gave the guest vocalists more of a chance, because to be honest, he does have a bit of a boring and generic voice in my opinion.
What are your guys most anticipated albums this year? 'Cause I have a feeling this is gonna be a good year for metal.

I can't help but notice a lack of all things metal and of metallic substance in the Music, Movies and Television forum... So, I thought, what can I do to help? Make a thread! So, just discuss all things metal here, from black metal to power metal, any genre and any band.
Well, I'm a huge fan of metal myself, it's my favourite genre. I love the vastness of it, it can incorporate so many different styles and still sound brilliant. I mainly a fan of progressive and power, but I also love doom, black, folk, industrial etc. etc. I love all forms of metal. My favourite bands being Kamelot, Sonata Arctica and Agalloch.
So, please, let's get some metal discussion going here. We're severely lacking... :D

[/hide]I actually agree with gays being unable to adopt. Think about what it would be like for a young student to have two mommies.
Should black parents not be allowed to adopt a white child? That could cause confusion in other students because of the difference in races.
Maybe the kid could explain to others that their family is just like everyone elses.

Would kids with two parents of the same sex be better off in any way?Would children with no parents, stuck in the orphanage because they weren't allowed to go with the gay couple, be better off? You're literally saying that a child with no parents should continue to have no parents because you don't agree with certain lifestyles.
Maybe the child can learn that having two parents of the same sex is okay, they're as good of a family as any other.
I've known Caucasian / black students adopted by Asian parents throughout elementary, middle, and high school. We never treated them any different at all. In most communities today, race is no longer treated as a big issue, and in fact,, I didn't even really acknowledge people of other races were different from myself for a while. This is what I meant by current state. Let's rewind to within the year after the Civil War ended. Would I allow black parents to adopt a white child? I would strongly suggest against this too. The wounds would simply be too raw at this point, and it'll create more tension among both parties and in the life of the child.
I never said that the children would be worse or better off. I'm not surprised that there's a correlation between good behavior and homosexual parents. But that doesn't change the fact that homosexual is still seen as "strange" in the eyes of many people, and thus in many kids. I've seen kids bullied for various mental or physical defections and to kids who don't understand homosexuality and who are taught differently by their parents, it would seem the children will experience a more challenging childhood. Are they better for it? Maybe. Correlation is not causation. But is it more trying? Logically, yes. And from narratives by those who grew up in those conditions, yes.
It has nothing to do with whether I agree or disagree with their life style. It has to do with the fact that I don't think a student should have to deal with all the negative feelings surrounding homosexuals (whether or not these feelings are warranted - I don't feel they are at all, but you can't force people to think differently), and yes, I realize remaining in an orphanage is also a similarly trying lifestyle but I'm not ready to believe that being adopted with gay parents isn't worse. Especially in communities where gays are still openly rejected (such as states that still fight against gay marriage).

No, he's suggesting that having no parents at all is easier from a social standpoint a lot of the time. Of course it's better from other standpoints to have parents.
But do you really think that a gay couple would live in an area where they would be discriminated against? I realize that economic restrictions can prevent a person from moving, but most people wouldn't stay in a place that could endanger them.
It would depends on whether the benefits of living there outweighs the risk fo being discriminated against. There are more factors than money and discrimination to be taken into account.

Terry Pratchett writes fantasy books, I can't describe them. The're all different, but they're always full of comedy, awesome stryines that really hook you and strangely enough, philosophy.

I'm kinda coming out of listening to power metal and more into progressive and other stuff. I'm still a sucker for the occasional song off Silence by Sonata Arctica though. It just cheers me up, the fast drumming, ridiculously high singing and cheesy riffs.
I've got Images and Words and Octavarium by Dream Theater, I&M is alright, Octavarium is a bit rubbish though imo. I just can't listen to DT for too long a time.
Also, Kamelot's new album title and a release date has been confirmed, it's called 'Poetry for the Poisoned' and is gonna be released on 3rd September. Now, is it just me, or does the album name sound like some bad, female-fronted symphonic metal clon... sorry, band?
