Well, since there's the RS Blogs already on here, why not take it a step further and install EXreaction's User Blogs MOD and have a RS Blogging system?
It ought to work just fine, and give the bloggers a better system to work within. :)

Also, no need to fuss with binary restrictions. ;) Having it at 256, 257, 258 won't cause things to go boom (IMHO), if you use a UTF-8 aware substr() function on the message to grab only so many characters. ;)
How long has Tip.It had so many computer savvy users posting in here? I swear 8 months ago it was around 4-6 people with moderate knowledge, now it's like 14-20 I see everyday. :ohnoes:
But yea, limiting it to only 100 would be better:
This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 words This is 300 wordsThat's only 100 characters and it takes up a lot of space.
Might want to only do 50 then.
And, I'm a MOD Author. It comes to me naturally. With as good of phpBB backend knowledge that I have, why not help? :P

Given, that one only appears for about a second, but I'm pretty sure it's possible to extend the time that it will remain (to either a few seconds or until the mouse moves again) so that you can read it. I would recommend restricting it to like 200 characters (or 255, to keep it even with binary restrictions) so that it doesn't flood over.
Character amount restriction is easily done, but not as easy if you don't want to break the BBcodes stuff.
If you wanted to change the amount of time it appears, you'd have to do a javascript imitation. Unless you screw with the browser itself, no-go for changing time duration, last I'd heard.
Also, no need to fuss with binary restrictions. ;) Having it at 256, 257, 258 won't cause things to go boom (IMHO), if you use a UTF-8 aware substr() function on the message to grab only so many characters. ;)

- Sorry for double post -
When posting, are the colours suppose to have their No. Name viewable, which makes the posting area extremely small?
[hide=example][/hide]
Annoying to have this small space to type in, that white space, times it by two and that's all I have to write in, is this suppose to be happening...?
Or will it be fixed once the 200 or so pixels at the side are fixed...?
Hmmm...happening in Firefox 3 RC1 for me (Going to upgrade later on to RC2 today though)
It shouldn't be like that, that should be alternate text for on mouseover. :wall:

- [*:33it7fr7]the PM button under someones avatar, it auto-quotes the persons text of which you clicked the PM button from
That's not a bug at all, that's a standard phpBB3 feature. :)
If you don't want that to come up, just go to that user's profile and use the PM button there. ;)

Um, yeah, double check the cookie settings please. It seems like the board is highly dependent on session-id's for login status right now.
I was just logged in with the remember-me settings two days ago, and I just had to re-login...

If anything, you don't want an extra query. That'd most likely mean doing a query in a loop, which is very bad. :ohnoes:
If anything, a LEFT JOIN to the posts table on (topics table) topic_first_post_id to (posts table) post_id ought to get the data needed, then just a UTF8-aware substring to limit the message to 100 chars maximum for the preview, and a template variable, and it's all set.
Dunno how much this would slow down viewforum.php though. #-o

Zargo_VI[/color]":17nhqn23]In other words: Yes it's possible
It would be a nice feature and I'd support it as well.
Well, most things are possible, it's just whether or not it is practical how much you have to do in order to get it to work. ;)
[hide=<.<;;]It also depends on how lazy you're feeling. Trust me, a few of my MODs have been sitting for a while just because I want to kick back and play some video games.[/hide]

phpBB3 has a system built in for it. ;)
I don't know about v2 though, I can't remember, it's been a long time since I worked with the codebase for it. :?

Don't bother with a link, just set up the clan thing. If someone remembers how to do the RS name link, well, I haven't found a way of doing that yet.
Here's how it works though:

No, I haven't been playing RS lately, my stats are embarrassing.
That, I think, would be an easy template edit & custom profile field. ;)

Make that 52 default bots (that are recognized by phpBB3), I've seen a script that adds something like 100 or so more to be recognized by phpBB3.

(Beware, the Bots are going to eat j00! RUN, LITTLE NUBS!)

There can maybe be a toggle on/off option in your UCP. This could be for people who either don't want it or for people with dial-up connections.
Dial-up shouldn't even matter. Do this for me. Exit of this topic to the Forum and Updates thread. Then hover your mouse over this topic. See the little square popup? We already have the feature, it just needs to give a preview rather than the date.
Something like that would be possible, but it would take some time to do. I have a vague idea how the SQL query in viewforum would have to be modified (and how to limit the size of the message preview), the hard part that I can't figure out is how to do the balloon-ing, probably could use the XHTML alt/title tag for it, I imagine. :?
Getting the thing to work on a user-by-user basis would be easy, though. I did something along the same lines with my Silverbar MOD's UCP Extension (it's a modification to phpBB3). Just a quick SQL query to create a boolean-style column and a template IF statement would do the trick. ;)

50 more pages to get :P
Bah, that's not that hard.
Anyways, good luck with that stuff shey, sadly I don't have much time for it anymore, exams and graduation are coming up fast. Ahh well.
(Shiny? WHERE?!?)

Congrats tryto and kostromo, you both managed to revive this reallllly dead topic!
I'm surprised this came back from the dead.... Gonna update this with the post count too, now.
Some good reasons for the names, and some completely strange names too... :-s

woot! gratz on 74 smithing and good luck on 80 \
what is myssy supposed to be :.....watever it is, i like the name
Myssy is a hat
D'OH! Forgot total level... Oh well...Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Love Love Love Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil
didn't i tell you not to make it? :D
Yes you did, but I didn't hear it :uhh:
Or, you heard it, but didn't, which means you heard it but didn't want to, so you were going to say you didn't hear it just to avoid harassment for doing it even when hearing not to.
EDIT: Oh, crap, I meant to confuse everyone else, but now I confused myself, and am trying to figure out if the logic behind that is right...

randomium
Randomium?
I think I have some of that...
Hold on...
Hey, care to add meh?

Uhhh, I was kidding about the dot...
Just trying to freak you out.

Yesss....Yes, PAWN is UBER1337...
Muhahahah....
GAAAAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!
Look at this dot for 15 seconds, and if your vision is still good after a lot of RS, you will see the picture of a person...
.

Don't leave myssy :o Keep on smithing and join in on Blogscape chat!
I agree!!
yea but still :|
Come to me...
Come to PAWN...
Actually, I've all but given up on RS. With all the bots, noobs, and all, I went to something that is Multiplayer, but with a twist.
If you see me on PAWN, I am currently playing as sTraTo, (Specialist, First Class). GL on your RuneScape stuff, but if you hear the siren call to come away, just follow my footsteps.

Yet another canned response from Jagex...
-
Agreed.
But, who's to say that this may also usher in that friend finder thing soon, too?
That would be great to have also. The thing, though, is that the chat rooms had better have passwords, else you'll have some idiot jumping in, spamming, and going to another to cause chaos.

Technically this is against rule 7.
The html document counts as a 3rd party application.
Here are some quotes from runescape.com for rule 7:
It must not bypass the normal navigation of our website for users wishing to reach the game worlds. The software should initially only point at the front page of http://www.runescape.com, and should require the user to navigate through the website normally to reach the game worlds. The software must not contain or acquire direct links to our "Select a world" page, or to our game world pages, or to the RuneScape applet. The html file bypasses the normal navigation by directing to the world webpage.
It must not attempt to make it easier to enter a busy RuneScape world than it would be for users not using the software. It must not allow worlds marked as 'FULL' on the world select page to be selected. It must not contain any features to make it easier to enter or monitor busy worlds. The html file does exactly this, goes straight to the world full or not.
You may be sitting there thinking "Hey, it's a html file... Not a program!" Well, that is very untrue indeed.
A quote from Jagex explaining that these rules include web-based software:
What do you mean by "software"?Software means any type of software, including: downloadable software (e.g an [Caution: Executable File] file), or web-based software (e.g a website set up to perform a similar function with flash, java, javascript or serverside scripts).
So your application does infringe on rule 7, if it didn't then a web-based world switcher i wrote before the rule 7 update would still be 100% legal today.
Edit: I know you're going to flame me over your response on the runescape PST about this not being against rule 7, so here is what i say - in the message sent to Jagex PST it does not say anywhere that it uses a html file to aid pointing the browser to the world page - which this does meaning that it is using 3rd party software!
When/where did you find that?
That's new...

I've played with it before, I like the setup of it, but I eventually deleted it because I didn't need it. :-#
I haven't seen the latest version though. -.-
All I can really say is that you'll want to make quite a few blog categories in there to let everyone spread out.
