  1. One good thing to come out of this whole thing is that it has given us the chance to find the pedophiles among us. Including some Mods. I sure hope the Tip.it staff takes a long look at this thread. I for one expect stupid coments from loud mouth 14 year old kids. But Mods? No way. Some of you are arguing in favor of a pedophile, and as far as I can tell, the only people who would do that are also pedophiles. Time to bring down the ban-hammer.

No one is really arguing the pedophile is innocent, although I haven't looked at this thread lately for the past six pages, so quote some posts supporting your claims. And I can tell you that none of the mods are pedophiles. And backseat modding is really dumb, don't do it. No one likes it, I don't anyway.

Still, considering the parent had all those jobs to support herself and her daughter, she might not have had much time to keep abreast of matters, so I wouldn't lay too much blame, even though she should have at least taught her daughter that that kind of scenario is just wrong.

As for the perpetrator, he'll be found guilty more likely than not. I'm not going to comment on the girl, as she clearly had no idea what was going on was wrong, so she was essentially manipulated. Still doesn't change the fact she went along with it the second and third times. Granted, she shouldn't be charged with anything, but she needs to have her internet access taken away until she learns that this kind of nonsense should never happen.

First off, I didnt say that the Mods are pedophiles, I said some of the people posting on this thread are. Next point, you say you don't like "backseat modding" but at the same time you want me to do it by asking for quotes. Ok, How about this.

I hardly see the girl as a victim here. It doesn't sound like she was led into believing that this guy was something that he wasn't. It's not like they chatted, he said he was a 16 year old boy, they got married on RuneScape, planned to meet up IRL and he turned out to be 54 and raped her. It sounds like she was CONSTANTLY sneaking out to have sex with him. She accepted a cell phone from him and was actively texting him. Judging by her actions, she seemed very into the whole thing, which is definitely creepy.

If that's not arguing in favor of a pedophile than I don't know what is. BTW adding a "definitely creepy" disclaimer at the end dosn't change the rest of the post. At best, it's CYA. I will also point out that tripsis is part of the tip.it admin team and as such IS a Mod.

  3. "I am above the law!!!!"

Perhaps you're not saying that it wasn't wrong, but you are trying to apply circumstances that are aimed at either (1) trolling or (2) legitimately attempting to mitigate the responsibility of the actions of the one ADULT involved in this situation. This man conducted a despicable act against a minor. There is nothing that can mitigate that fact.

    Nothing.

I don't know how old you are -- and I don't care. I don't want to discuss your age here.

That said, your response is typical of the "younger person" who thinks that they are mature enough to make certain decisions for themselves, so therefore they should be allowed to make such decisions.

The reality is that most (if not all) people under the "age of consent" are not capable of competent management of themselves, despite the fact that they may believe themselves otherwise capable.

Meanwhile, there is an adult involved here who has committed a heinous crime against a child. He alone is responsible for this crime. He alone committed it. He alone.

Meanwhile, your attempts to purport that your own "maturity" is some form of guideline through which one should determine the degree of responsibility that the minor involved in this situation should share in this incident is ridiculous.

The consent law is arbitrary. Being 18 means nothing in biology. Nothing. Age of consent laws are arbitrary not only in sex, but everywhere else. Theme parks, for example, can decide when you are an adult to charge you more. Though this is an extremely poor contrast.

You futile attempts at using straw men are also rather amusing. I am 18, going on 19 in about 26sh days. Now, what I simply think is that consent should be defined with the cognition of one's brain. One can be 14 and be more mature and developed than that of a 19 year old, for example. But in our age of consent laws (at least in 'Merica), the said 14 yeah old would still be cognitively devoid than that of a 19 year old because the law said so. And only a couple hundred years ago, those laws were different than todays. Laws evolve and change over time as we investigate and discover new realities, or when we can disprove older laws and replace them.

Every single person who has anything resembling a rational thought should question the law every now and then, in my opinion. Mindlessly following the law is silly and dangerous. Its good to question the reality of the situation sometimes.

This girl may not have had the cognitive abilities to discern what is good or bad in her situation, and we won't know because of the law.

I also cannot agree with the so-called "reality" you stated. Teenagers mature younger and more rapid nowadays. Puberty is occurring younger, and many children are also capable of rational thought during those ages.

I also find it arbitrary that an adult, lets say age 33, can have sex with a 15 year old and he would be the only one charged with any wrongdoing, even if the teen consented. However, if the situation was twisted and lets say the 15 year old were to rob a bank with this man, she can be tried as an adult for being an assistant to this mans crime. Granted, sex is definitely more psychologically relative and is emotionally connected as well, but given the conditions of the bank robbery scenario it can be just as frightening for the child.

No. In reality, age does not show anything but how many days one has lived on this earth and does not necessarily relate to cognitive ability. Surely there are teens that obviously cannot make that decision, but at the same time there must also be quite a few that can.

    I was ninja'd :P

@blyaunte: your stereotype of the average child is something that truly is shocking. Let me ask you a question: should a 17yr old be treated the same, even though they're so close to 18. Age is a measure of time, and NOT a measure of maturity. If the 13yr old truly thought that she was so mature, then she should've:

    A) asked to be immansipated so she'd have the ability to consent, or

    B) refused to press charges when the police heard of this incident.

Anyone who thinks that maturity=age clearly has no grasp of the 'real world'.

Also, if I were trolling, I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't make an attempt to sound intelligent and I also wouldn't make an attempt to care about what I was saying. But hell, I apparently may be a troll simply because I don't agree with the majority.

I could be misunding what your saying, but it sure looks like your arguing in favor of Pedophilia.

  4. Actualy, I never mentioned buying anything. And may I ask, What "industry"? We are talking about a game here. Anyone who thinks Runescape is anything other than a game eather works for Jagex (It's there business), Is praying on people who are to lazy or unwilling to play the game and thus get whatever it is they want (RWT), or are in need of psychological help. It's a GAME. If you want antifire pots, do what it takes to make them. Or be willing to pay the price to those who did the "work" and made them for you. But don't got all bet out of shape becouse some people want to play the game in a diferant way than you do. If they want to prentend that they are some kind of Runescape Walmart or something, let them. Just play the game and ignore them. Everything in this game can be had by anyone willing to to do what it takes to go get it. That's the whole point of playing. To earn the rewards in exchange for the effort you put in.

And this brings me back to the question I asked before. What "drought in supplies"? What is the reason for you not being able to play the game and not get or make what you want? Is the game to hard? Is it to boring to do the "work"?Do you not know how to do it? The guides here on Tip.it are exelant in helping with that.

Or are you really taking an online, Java based, computer game that seriously?:ohnoes:

I spy someone who never learned basic economics.

And I spy people who can't answer simple questions without resorting to silly comments.

So I give up and leave you with this. Have fun.

  5. Saying " There are no "merchanting clans"' is kind of like saying there are no private e-mail accounts. Just becouse you haven't been invited into one dose not mean they are not around.

BTW What "drought in supplies" are you talking about? I've never been told the all the fish in any fishing spot where all gone. The trees "grow" back at the same rate no matter what you do with them afterwards. The sand boxes for making glass are allways full. The rocks are as slow to mine now as they where brfore. What have you missed out on?

Somebody doesn't know how basic industry works.

Not a big surprise, from somebody who thinks buying out X item to cause an artificial supply/deman imbalance is "merchanting". Don't worry bro, nobody will miss the guys buying out antifire potions. Free trading is coming, your fate is sealed, banned or not.

  6. Jagex BANS MERCH CLANS -- we have the beginning evidence that JAGEX is planning to BAN MERCH CLANS -- Linkbuilder is BLOCKED from following Official Jagex on Twitter! This is the beginning of the end for Organized Merchanging Clans on Runescape.

The Wild, Runescape PVP and Runescape Pking are coming back -- but what about the art of Merchanting?

That is awesome news. There are no "merchanting clans", and there shouldn't be. What exists right now are money hungry opportunists, who cause a drought in supplies so they can profit from the inconvenience of others.

The art of merchanting is coming back from its 2007 grave.

Saying " There are no "merchanting clans"' is kind of like saying there are no private e-mail accounts. Just becouse you haven't been invited into one dose not mean they are not around.

  7. As to why? That's something that everyone should ask. Unfortunately, it's a question that I don't think I can put into words. Perhaps it's one that shouldn't be answered except in the heart and mind of the person asking the question.

-.- can you just answer the question? Overanylyzing is ftl #-o

Actually I did answer the question. What you quoted was a second question.

Now if you need me to answer the question, "why is my friend my friend?", sorry, I can't help you.

  8. This thread brings up two interesting questions, "What makes a good friend?" and Why. The word friend as we all know has many meanings. All of those meanings are personally subjective, meaning they mean different things to different people. The word loyalty for example, has been mentioned several times, but what dose it mean to you? In this case, my answer will be different than yours. And it will be different for different reasons. Also, talking about an in game friend as opposed to real life, will also have an effect on how you define a friend.

I've made several friends in RS over the years. Some of them are people I will never meet in the real world. But I still consider them friends, just as if we where siting in the same room. A few, I know in R L, and my relationship with them is different than an in game friend, for obvious reasons. Still others are people I would love to see in R L, but who I have little contact with in game. The list goes on.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, friendship means different things to me depending on the person and the circumstances. For instance, I have a friend who makes me feel good just by logging on to the game, not one word has to be spoken or anything, just knowing this person is around is enough. I have others who have gone to great lengths to help me out and I know would do so again, without hesitation, and without asking anything in return. And I have friends who have done nothing except talk with me, folks who I hold in the same regard as those who stood by me when I died at the KBD and saved all me gear. These are my friends, people I would do anything for.

So, to answer the question "What makes a good friend?", it's easy, for me, a good friend is defined by how I feel about a person. Not what they do, not what they say, not what they look like, Just how I feel about them. And if that feeling is returned, great! If not, that's okay to.

As to why? That's something that everyone should ask. Unfortunately, it's a question that I don't think I can put into words. Perhaps it's one that shouldn't be answered except in the heart and mind of the person asking the question.

  9. Personally, I couldn't care less about PKing. What has me mad is that instead of installing detection code into the game and having a simple database cross check system as a back up, to catch the cheats, Jagex just assumed that all of it's subscribers are cheaters and put in the trade limit. Yes I have read the diary. Some if it I buy, but the rest is just excuses not to keep working on the problem. With the systems I just mentioned, Jagex could find all of the bots and autoers in the game within hours, and by watching the trade records, find the mains and the people doing business with them within days. That however would take ongoing work, the trade restrictions are a one time change and that's the end of it. No more work needed. Jagex saves the money it would cost to hire a database manager and install the softwere. Well good for them. The problem is that I am not a cheater. Why Is Jagex treating me like one? I pay my money to play the game, not deal with all the random events that stop me doing whatever I'm doing in the game and not to have Jagex tell me what I can trade and when I can trade it. With the trade system in place, we can kiss next Christmas goodbuy along with birthdays and any other gift giving events. Why, because Jagex would rather treat the people who keep them in business like criminals that have to do the work to stop the real criminals. Why should I keep giving money to people who have that little respect for there customers? After all, without us, Jagex is an empty office and a lot of unemployed people.

  11. db986 - nothing to add if its only a lack of items from them

    ello,

I'm posting this at the request of Pokemama for the bestiary crew.

Over the last few months, I have spent a lot of time in the Jatizso Mine,

on the hunt for Ice Trolls. During that time I have noticed the the drop table

is much different than the one used by the trolls on the surface of the Fremennik

Islands. The drops are listed below. Note the fewer weapons and armour on the list

and the fact that all three types of trolls only drop 200 gp.

Also note that I have not had a half key from the runts but I have gotten it

from both the males and females. As stated below I have yet to see the dragon shield half from any of them.

Again this is only for the trolls in the Jatizso Mine.

The mine is not a multi combat ares so the special notes on the surface trolls do not apply.

Yak-hide armour and Fremennik round shield are still a good idea however.

Hit points, and XP gained for fighting are the same as for the surface trolls.

  12. It looks to me like qeltar has a major problem, weather it's with Jagex or the kids that play the game along side all of us, I couldn't tell you. I can tell you he is rather dishonest in some of his responses to posts in this thread. The best example is the pic of a Scholistic sales flier along with his claim that Jagex is marketing to kids. Is Jagex producing sales copy for Scholistic Publishing now? I think not, but according qeltar they are. Never mind that Jagex may not have had anything to do with the book in the ad in the first place.

There is a loop hole in U.S. copyright law that would allow scholistic to use Jagex's images. If the material is used for the purpose of parody, education or news dissemination, than it no longer falls under copyright protection. As this book is a "how to" and it is published in the U.S. by a company that specializes in educational material, Jagex couldn't stop them if they wanted to. In fact, if they did try, Jagex could get sued for harassment. It happened with Atari. This is also why you can find so many "cheat" books at the book store. None of the game companies get any money from most of those books.

Another thing I would point out is his web site. To me it looks like page after page of what's wrong with Rune Scape. He uses the same complaints that people have had about every video game since pong, only updated. Yes some do apply to Rune Scape, but they apply to every other online game as well. The rest of it looks like he's trying to convince readers how great of a guy he is and what a heroic job he is single handedly doing to clean up the game. BTW, if you don't know about his site yet, look at his sig file, it's a rolling advertisement for it.

In short (I know, too late ) the man strikes me as a self centered crusader type who can only be happy if he is complaining about someone else.

Just my impressions. I may be wrong.

  13. #1 The lvl30 something in Catherby.
