  1.

    London Ontario.

I stopped leaving the house due to the cold in December but I think I'll grow more balls for my year abroad.

I'd be silly not to. I'm spending this summer buying very warm winter clothes in preparation anyway.

I've lived in London for a little over 7 years. Factoring in wind chill, -30°C isn't common, but -20 is. There are quite a few warmer days (-5°C or warmer) thrown in there, too. I've also witnessed a few thunder-snows in my time here, which I never saw in my pre-London days. Warm winter clothes is always a good idea, especially if you don't like the cold.

Personally, I thrive in it, so I haven't even worn a winter coat since high school, which I finished before moving to London.

  2. At Nestlé I was making $300 every week if I did 40 hours. We had ~$700 in rent, and had to pay all utilities separate. It would have been tough had I lived alone, but we were splitting it 4 ways.

I'm not sure why I said $700. At that time we were paying a little over $1000/month for rent (with bills adding an extra ~$1000 most months). The $700 is for the townhouse I live in now (and the bills add ~$300).

3 weeks ago, my grandma (father's mom) died. Last week my uncle (mother's side, related through marriage) died. Neither one was particularly surprising (she was 83 and recently diagnosed with cancer; and he had been in hospital for almost a month) but still.

I've also been out of work for 2 months since they closed one of their locations and I was near the bottom of the seniority list. I've been looking, but with Target pulling out of Canada I've got a few thousand other people to compete with now.

  4.

I got a couple of tickets to a hockey game tomorrow for free. Team reps were handing them out at a couple of stores in the city.

Like NHL hockey game or just junior level?

"Major" Junior. London Knights vs Ottawa 67s. Many of the players have been drafted, or are expected to be drafted this year, but it's still Junior hockey.

  5. Need a good snowstorm or promise of 10+ cm to close schools here.

The only thing that ever got my school closed was 0 visibility. They even had us go with 6 inches of snow on the road. Some of the bus drivers actually refused to drive and they wouldn't cancel the others.

  6. The guy I was supposed to be working with quit and the boss couldn't find anyone to cover him so we opened an hour late today. I was also alone for 7 hours, despite the fact the job can be quite difficult even for 2 people at times. In fact, it was the busiest Sunday in months with 73 people in 7 hours (usually, even in 8, there isn't more than 60).

Tomorrow's opener won't be happy with the mess that was left, but I was already working past the end of my shift (only 10 minutes, but 10 minutes I won't be paid for) so I don't care.

For those who don't know, I am a Goodwill Donor Greeter. My job is to assist any donors in unloading their cars and then sort what they donated.

  7. None of my friends live close enough (a few of them having spread across the country, the rest being at least 1 city away), and most of them have jobs and families that take up most of their time right now. Actually, I haven't seen any of them in almost 2 years... I need to fix that soon, at least for the ones still in my province.

I'll figure something out for the short-term, but it will never work long-term.

  8. My internet is fine (slow, but not ridiculously so), but I don't have any way of connecting my 360 to it right now. I'll probably get either PS4 or XBox 1 early next year if I deem it worth my money, though, so I'll consider getting Destiny then.

Also, I now have 2 4-hour shifts done at my new job and it is perhaps a bit too mind-numbing, even for me. I work as a Donor Greeter for Goodwill Industries, and in 2 days (8 hours total), we received 12 donations while I was there. Early next week I'm doing 4-hour shifts at the slowest one where they're lucky to get 10 donations in the 12 hours they operate. I thought my job search was over, but it apparently must go on, although I can relax it a bit as long as the cash is flowing in.

I would keep the job, but working alone with virtually nothing to do? I would lose my mind.

EDIT: It also doesn't help that there are 6 locations, any of which I could be asked to work at, any time... any day of the week. I applied for a job that said 1 location, not 6.

  9. I just got back from my first job interview in nearly 7 years. I think it went well, but I'll find out if I got the job tonight. If I did, I'll be doing the mind-numbing work I tend to prefer, so I actually would love to get this one. If I don't, it's back to the comments of "Get a job yet?" and "You need a job, you're getting fat."

  10.

And people tell me that the reefer doesn't pose a significant health hazard...

It takes a seriously dumb human being to blow themselves up trying to make hash oil. And to be honest, I'm not even sure how it would be possible. There's no room for combustion in that process. Something is fishy.

Apparently explosions are fairly common in this process. I would guess the "seriously dumb" part is also pretty common, though

  11. Apparently there was an explosion of a suspected meth lab not far from my house. And by that I mean just down the street, less than a minute's drive.

Good news, it wasn't a meth lab. The police are saying it was a "marijuana oil extraction operation", instead.

Sadly, this is the second time a house near where my aunt and sister live has blown up in the last 8 years in 2 different parts of the city, with 2 different causes.

  13. I'm almost to the decade mark since signing up but am long past it if you include my lurking days. I've been playing RS since late '01 (found this place in early '03), off and on, but have never actually quit. As for the forums, I don't post that much anymore, but I've never really left.

In-game, I spent much of my high school years in the Varrock Sewers hanging out at the Moss Giants with a group of people who saw RS as a glorified chat room, sometimes going full play sessions without attacking a single Giant.

  14. I spent about 15 minutes yesterday taking (see: failing miserably) a Wal-Mart telephone interview. I'd be surprised if I get asked to go in for a real interview, but it is Wal-Mart. I am also a lifetime 0-for-5 with placement agencies now. And to top it off, my sister finally realized just how difficult it is (psychologically speaking) for me to make a phone call.

  15. I just called back a potential employer and got a machine. I left a message for them to know I am still interested and asked them to call me back. Last time I did this (just over a week ago) the company never did call back. I sat and stared at the number typed in on my phone for over an hour each time before I could actually bring myself to actually initiate the call.

In other news, the people who cut the grass at my current address (which is one of 12 units in the building) finally showed up for the first time this year. The guy who cuts the front did 2 and a half sections (out of 6) and disappeared. That was 25 minutes ago and he still isn't back. Maybe the cheque bounced.

  16.

The NHL is apparently being hit with another lawsuit from former players.

And according to it, Gordie Howe died in 2009 (as opposed to Colleen Howe). And it cites the Friday the 13th series as a credible source for hockey being excessively violent.

Yeah seems pretty ridiculous. Not saying all these lawsuits are without merit, but this one...

Haven't posted in a while. The leafs' annual collapse is complete. Top ten pick baby!!

I agree, some of the suits are justified, but with fact-checkers like these guys used... that thing better be thrown out in a hurry.

And I just realized that about the pick. I should really check out the draft-eligible players soon, see who the Leafs could end up with.

  18. Just found a couple of old pictures... First one is at a family Christmas a few years back (2010, maybe? Somewhere between 2010 and 2012). I'm the one on the right.

Next up is one my sister thought would be funny to show around.

Maybe one day I'll actually take a current picture and post it.

  19. Latest on my job hunt, I'm applying to work for the fair. That means that I will work on the fairground during the fair and during any other events they need me for. It's far from ideal, but better than nothing... assuming I get it. I may or may not have an endorsement for my application from somebody who has worked there for years.
