  1.

I like it. It definitely takes lots of features and ideas from Hearthstone, but it has its own unique gameplay. Definitely has potential.

Here's some beta keys for any other TIFers needing em (post when you use them, please!):

Bah, I was too late again - these have all been used. Don't suppose anyone still has a spare they can PM me?

Eh, I was afraid folks would use without posting. Sorry. :(

You can ask over here though!

  2. why would the price go down??? the prize is untradeble and if anything, more boots would mean the demand would go up really, really fast

    hm

maybe i should be buying feathers instead of saying this kind of thing out loud

Price went down because everyone who already had the boots got 50 "feathers" (untradeable, but still). And the TH promo brought a bunch more feathers into the game, yeah.

Long-term, the price will rise though, for sure.

  3. Festive aura is now active! That's +50% xp per day for 30min, up to 50k.

First advent calendar prize is silverhawk boots for those who don't have them, or 50 untradeable feathers ("down") for those who do already have them. Seems to have crashed the price on feathers for the moment, but I'm sure that'll spike back up within a few days.

  5. Good call on pointing out the very real problems with GE pricing on holiday items. But as you said, I'm not sure there are any easy fixes.

Best option might be to not have a GE market price listed for those items at all, while still allowing them to be sold on the GE. It'd be a bit odd, but it'd prevent the sort of scamming you observed (which no, is not actually against the rules, though I'd have done the same as the pmod you saw and still asked/told the guy to stop advertising as he was) while still allowing the convenience of trading these items on the GE.

  6.

For today and for tomorrow until the game update, the commendation cap for the Falador event is doubled, and you've a greater chance of receiving the unique rewards if you haven't yet (to help folks who maybe weren't around earlier). The event will end with tomorrow's game update.

So then we have all day tomorrow and then roughly half of Monday (according to GMT time anyway) to train? I'm happy if that's the case but think I'm going to save all my commendations for one go and don't want to lose them lol.

I'd be surprised if they actually removed commendations from our inventories right away; I bet they'll leave those for another week or two. But you may want to use all you have today in case you can't get on before the update tomorrow, just in case.

  7. Interesting concept with defenders filling out some needed spaces...hopefully they'll have a solid place among the metagame when all is said and done, but we'll see.

Apparently they'll be changing defenders to basically be half off-hand weapons, half shields, giving access to both sets of abilities. So they'll probably be pretty darn useful for tanks who don't need the full defensive capabilities of an actual shield.

  8. Of course they add new auras immediately after getting everyone to spend all their loyalty points on tools, heh.

I was hoping the Wisdom upgrades would increase the XP boost, not increase the length of time. Not sure if they're worth buying. (Not sure Wisdom is worth buying in the first place, honestly, but I have it, so may as well use it.)

Also not sure that I'll bother with the next tier of JoT. 20 skills can be a bit tricky to hit; 25 is going to be obnoxious to try and do every day.

  9. We can't compete with Reddit in terms of attracting new members, but that should not be mistaken as a sign that Reddit is better. It isn't. There's a real sense of community and history here. Also, when discussion does happen, it's a lot more in-depth. Reddit is basically just a hotbed of memes, trolls, bandwagon voting, and really, the only reason most go there (aside from its accessibility) is that it's a good place to get Runescape related news, because someone always post stuff there right away. That's it. Aside from the fact that news is instantly there, it's not really all that great. I certainly feel a sense of community and familiarity with the people on Tip.it (even if I don't have necessarily everyone added), whereas on Reddit 99.9% of the names - I don't know, nor do I do care to know about. This is a community, whereas Reddit is just the townsquare or marketplace where everyone goes to see a spectacle or get the news, without really knowing any of the people there.

And for what it's worth, we generally have the major update newsposts here pretty quickly as well. We don't catch everything that gets said on Twitter or livestreams, but usually someone has seen it and can share the info if needed.

I visit r/runescape and browse around sometimes, but I mostly stick to this for news and updates, and RSWikia and occasionally Tip.It for guides and info. I definitely agree that we have a sense of community that the other sites don't, though, and I love spending time in HYT chat even if we're not as active as we used to be.

  10. So far, from the supply caches from commendations, I've gotten:

    • Small combat lamp (att, str, def, ranged, magic, constitution, prayer, or summoning)
    • Small Falador park lamp (farming or summoning)
    • Small Falador mine lamp (str or mining)
    • Small Artisan's Workshop lamp (firemaking or smithing)
    • Small single-skill lamp (thus far herblore, construction, and woodcutting)
    • Small prismatic lamp
    • Tiny white/black knight pet (both from one cache, accessible through pets interface, not an actual item)
    • Candy floss maul (actual item, not just wardrobe thingy)
    • Banner fragment (need 10 to assemble banner)
    • Falador resource bundle

Resource bundles that I've opened thus far:

    • 3 noted mahogany planks and ~1.6k gp
    • 3 noted dragon bones and 297gp
    • Adamant dragon bones and 3072gp
    • Adamant ore and 1238gp
    • 5 noted mahog planks and 45gp
    • Phoenix quill and 538gp
    • Phoenix quill and 710gp
    • 3 noted mahog planks and 632gp
    • Kyatt fur and 495gp
    • 3 noted raw rocktails and 2079gp
    • Adamant dragon bones and 645gp

Sounds like you can do the miniquest to get the banner and then assemble the banner from pieces to get the cosmetic "blessed" upgrade, or the other way around; order doesn't matter.

Once you have the first banner, you can "equip" it (via your wardrobe) to get a permanent "Charge" boost (same as the Battle Horn boost, but permanent - looks like faster commendation and boosted XP).

Edit: You get the buff when you obtain the banner; you don't need to "equip" it. (Thanks, strilmus!)

And yeah, deaths here are not safe. Getting back to your gravestone is easy enough via the lodestone, but hardcore ironmen should probably just avoid combat! The knights can hit surprisingly hard; I've died several times already (though I wasn't using food). For combat I generally stick by the east bank and duck in there between waves to heal.

Knights with a two-handed battleaxe can stun you, and can disable protect/deflect prayers/curses.

Knights with an axe and shield can disable protect/deflect prayers/curses.

Knights with two swords seem to be the dangerous ones that deal tons of damage; they also can prevent you from moving.

Also note that the whole area is multicombat, and any AoE abilities will hit both black and white knights, provoking them onto you... that's a great way to die fast.

Every half hour, I think, a champion spawns for each side, and right after that balloons drop. During that time, and for a while after and a few minutes before, no normal knights spawn.

  11. Does the Crystal Mask spell (from the Seren spells) affect thieving in Priff?

Does the Light Form prayer affect that spell at all? I know it interacts with Crystallise in ways beyond the prayer's description, for example.

Does Crystal Mask stack with the five-finger discount auras?

Edit: RS3, if that wasn't obvious.

  12. So, new points seem to be (assuming 100% stabs) 1000 for the first, 250 for second and third, and 50 for each thereafter (you get astro credits for all the stabs equal to 1/10th of the points, except maybe the 50pt runs, not sure). Stabbing resets your 80min skill cap, but there's now a hard daily cap of 80 frags (which does not reset by stabbing) (you get the usual 1 astro credit per frag, and you can't get astro credits from skilling after you cap frags).

Not including 50 point stabs, new daily cap is 1900 (1000+250+250 stabs + 80*5); old cap was roughly 1600 but varied widely depending on how lucky you were with frags. Old cap took 100min to reach (20 event, 80 skilling for frags); new caps takes 80-140min to cap (20x3 event, 20-80min frags, depending on your luck).

Folks who stabbed before the update occurred but after today's reset seem to be getting more 250pt stabs than they should.

Edit: It's also looking like it will indeed take the full original 80min of skilling to hit 80 frags, whereas before you could get 80 in a little over half that time. So capping takes a fair bit longer now.

  13. 110% and 15 cd when used on a normal target (non-slayer etc)

And deal [slayer leve] x100 when used on-task, I'm told.

From my own fiddling and talking with others in node find: The best way to max fragments seems to be non-sparkly agility posts. Either the cap is time-based and sparkly posts have a lower frag chance, or the cap is xp based and each tick has the same frag chance - either way, nonsparkly agil is the way to go to max frags per day. You can get 600-800 points from frags this way in about two rounds of skilling. (Most I've actually seen reported is 163 frags for 815pts; frag totals in the 150s are fairly common.) Skill total doesn't seem to have anything to do with frag chances or frag capping, despite some rumors. Jmods have said that frag chance and capping is the same regardless of what you're doing, but that doesn't seem to actually be the case.

The rest of the islands are decently explained through the in-game help (? on the top right of the minigame bar interface thingy, explains the island you're on), but there are some tricks that aren't explained so well:

    • Holy island: burning the tentacles is the best and easiest method, but if everyone in your group is doing it, you may be better off doing souls. For souls, grab your relic, hop in the grave, find and claim the orange lost soul, then click a tormented soul near the exit point (over by the holy fire), kill the tormented soul (luring it towards the exit if you're using range or mage), exit to claim the tormented soul, then turn in the lost soul charge on your way back to the graves. You can cap the island with just souls this way, though it's a bit close.

    • Seed/flower island: Each flower only gives one seed, and turning in the seeds is the vast majority of your scoring for that island. Roots can grow into a square being blocked by a vine or tentacle; you may need to remove the blocking thing before continuing to nurture it though (haven't tried right-clicking, so I'm not certain if you have to). The team should focus on one or two roots at a time, not split among all three.

    • Agility course island, you teleport to wherever the blinking arrow is at the moment you press the button - the arrow stays put while the person with the gatestone is traversing an obstacle, so if you port to them during that you'll be at the start of the obstacle, not midway through or at the end of it. This is handy if you need to get to the island they're leaving; not so much if you want to get to the island they're going to.

    • Lightning island: General priority should be luring > traps > building pylons > combat. To lure, you should run to the other side of the center energy ball, not run up next to it. Any number of people can trap the same lightning spot and everyone gets the same credit for it. Lightning killed in combat will charge those fighting it, and lured sentient lightning will charge players near the center energy ball; a blue bar shows above your head, along with some instructional text. When this happens, go click the center energy ball to turn in your charge. Once capped for the island, focus on building pylons (and traps, if you want the hunter xp); leave the actual luring for those who haven't yet capped.

    • In general: Meteors are pretty much the best thing to do on any island (flower island meteors give lots of herbs; the others give straight points). Multiple people in combat with the same enemy can all get the full reward when the enemy dies, though there may be a cap to the number of people or a minimum damage threshold on this.

    • You can't get more than 25% per island completed, including your current one... but if you get, say, 15% on the first island, you can get 35% on the next before getting the "you can't get any more on this island" message. So falling behind on one island doesn't mean you can't get 100% for that run.

Harbinger title is at 5x 100% spear hits. You can also get the WE1 titles from skilling between rounds or when completing a round.

I'm told you only have two minutes to do the actual spear hit, once you reach Tuska's head; apparently if you don't, you burst into flame and get sent back down. I don't know how that affects your points.

There's a bug that sometimes you'll only get 999 points instead of 1000 at the end of a run; you can't make up that last point in a subsequent run. Hopefully they'll do a bugfix and round everyone's points up to the nearest increment of 5.
