  1. Well, the people most likely to comment on that would be the new players that such content would attract... but they aren't here yet, so...

I definitely agree that the game needs something to pull in new players; right now everyone is high level and it takes such a massive time investment to get there, that of course anyone newly interested in the game is going to be intimidated and turned off.

It's almost like the learning curve is a brick wall, only even if you learn quickly and utilize outside resources, you're still stuck investing massive amounts of time into the game to catch up to where everyone else already is before you can have fun.

  2. I'm all for this update, however, it's bound to end or for them to go back on their word once their top player after dedicated hundreds of hours into the game gets killed due to a connection lost.

I certainly hope not. They might give back accounts/deaths that happened due to connection loss, but if so, they'll likely do it for everyone or for no-one.

I'm not sure they'll do that at all, though; the built-in two free deaths/conversion to non-Hardmode is for that specific purpose, after all.

  3. Useful information for those who have maxed or have 4 skills + any combat skills left to  max.

You are currently able to complete a daily challenge, turn the challenge in and then reroll/extend the same challenge. Obviously you'll need to less than 5 or less skills left to max (all combat skills are considered as one challenge) so you know that when rerolling you know for a fact you going to get the skill you've just completed. I've just got around 900k Dungeoneering experience this way and I can get way more if I choose to buy more Vis wax. I can see this getting nerfed very soon.

Forgot that you only get one per challenge day. Only seemed good at first because I had 4 challenges outstanding in skills I didn't want to do... so once those were rerolled you ended up having nothing left.

It's still handy for those who don't play every single day.

  4.

Prices are gonna tank though, as with most new items. Earlier today prices were floating around 9-10k.

I think extending challenges is the best value, especially when used on stuff like DG. Not reliable though and I'm not sure if rerolling is worthwhile.

Extending Div locations is like ~150-200k and like 20-25k XP which is pretty good, but you can't max out both money and XP.

40 wax for a second JoaT seems worse than extending div locations. You get XP in skill of your choice, but no extra profit and probably less XP.

If wax prices really plummet, it might be worth doubling greenfingers to get 2 protection cycles out of it for herbs. Other 10 wax extensions are probably worthwhile as long as you use for full duration obviously. I don't think any of the 20-40 wax extensions are worth it and vamp/penance will again depend on where wax stabilizes.

Are you poor?  This stuff is super OP.

    Not everyone uses auras though

And not everyone who does wants to extend their duration (remember, you don't reset the cooldown, you just extend the duration by 50% or 100%; not sure what happens if you try and do that while it's on cooldown).

Yeah, I net about 20k xp per JoT use; that's not worth 40 wax at those prices. Div locations can be worthwhile, depending what you use.

I doubt doubling greenfingers is worth it at all; I only lose one herb every other run or so, and it wouldn't guarantee no dead herbs. Vamp/penance... well, I definitely don't use those enough to spend wax on them; someone who does a lot of bossing might find that worthwhile, but that's a long time to be bossing.

Rerolls are definitely risky, but I suspect once the price settles, they'll be reasonably worthwhile.

  6. Today's is Astral, Air/Nature/Body - mine was Astral/Air/Nature. So, you can get one of the three from the second slot as your third slot.

With 100 vis wax per day, I can double my div location gather limit (40), use supreme JoT twice (40), and either double a challenge (20) or reroll two challenges (10 each). That's pretty solid. Rerolled some challenges with yesterday's and today's wax, wound up with two doubled Airut bones prayer challenges for a nice 55k total xp (and quick raffle tickets!), and also did three JoT reward books (one yesterday I hadn't claimed, two today) for 60k Herblore xp, as well as double daily divine location gathering on whatever was around. Not bad for maybe an hour spent in-game.

Also, you don't have to carry the runes with you; it takes them from your bank, which I didn't realize.

  7. Guide for Rune Goldberg Machine:

#1 fill the 3 slots with any 3 runes

#2 if all are green go to #6

#3 if the 1st light is green move to the next step, if it isn't green remove that one and add/remove runes until it is green.

#4 if the 2nd light is green move to the next step, if it isn't green remove it and add/remove runes until it is green.

#5 if the 3rd light is green move to next step, if it isn't green then add/remove runes until it is green

#6 if all are green then profit...

I think you actually want to swap out all three runes at once if none of them are green, so that you can try a new one in each slot while only using up one "attempt" or however they call it. If I read the post right, the more combinations you try, the more runes it uses when you finally hit "combine."

  8. Except that I can put in 10 tickets and win 10 prizes. It's not limited to one prize per person; people have won multiple copies of the same prize on the same day by entering multiple tickets. If 20k people each enter 10 tickets, and 20k prizes are given out, 2000 of the 20k people who entered could each win 10 prizes while the other 18k get nothing (or, rather, get lamps).

I think the only variables that matter are the number of prizes given out, the total number of tickets entered, and the number of tickets you entered, but probability is not my strong suit.

  9. Have they posted any word on whether you will be able to reset a currently existing account into an ironman account? Obviously this would cause losing all stats, possessions, etc.

They haven't mentioned it. It would be nice to be able to completely reset an account into Ironman mode to avoid losing settings and the name of that acc.

might as well vote for slow skills for the 25k missions/meg lamps

Does Meg give lamps for hunter/cooking/construction? I honestly haven't noticed.

Meg gives lamps for all adventurer skills. She used to give a wrong one for the Biologist because they called her something different in planning and didn't change it for a month+ after release.

The xp missions would be nice, especially if there's nothing else to do. 35k in agility? Sounds good

Yeah, I just wasn't sure they updated her to add the new skills.

Pretty sure she gave Hunter instead of Herblore for, like, ever, yep.

Oh Runescape and its love of shiny things.

I'm just glad this isn't a completionist req.

Honestly, it might take two hours to do at most, since you already have the skills at 99 for the comp cape. It'd be a pretty minor addition, especially for those who are still working towards comp.

    I'm not maxed ;)

Then you don't need to worry much about comp reqs, do you? :P

    Except that he's working on max/comp/trim :P

Yes, but you have to get max first, and then we're back to the first thing I said in this quote block - only a couple of hours of work to get from max cape to having all four expert capes. Hardly a big thing to add on top of the already large comp reqs, especially for someone who isn't maxed yet.

I suppose "you don't need to worry much about comp reqs" wasn't exactly right; I should've said something more like "then you don't need to worry much about this potential comp req" because it'll be a while before it matters and it's not that hard to get once maxed.

  13. Not a bad idea to have a separate topic for this, honestly, so that folks who don't frequent the 200m topic can find their way into the discussion.

My Suggestions: I made a post on the 200M All Skills topic about Ironamn mode. NO MTK, Only Drops are Coins, Bones, Ashes.

The idea is that Jagex is adding official support for the existing community varient of DIY; they're just renaming it "Ironman." They aren't creating a new hard game-mode from scratch.

The widely-accepted DIY rules say nothing about MTK or fiddling with monster drops; it'd actually be impossible to obtain most high-end equipment if you couldn't get it from monster drops and also couldn't buy it from players! And MTK is an excellent source of resources for DIY players that doesn't involve interacting with other players, so there's no reason to exclude that for DIY players. I see no reason to alter the drops Ironman characters get from monsters or to bar MTK.

Nothing like a refreshing dose of shard collecting to remind you that we're going to have to do this 32 times for the elf city statue

Yeah right... i mean there are shattered heart rocks, expert skill cape shards and now golden elf rocks. I feel sorry for players who will be walking freshly into these pieces of content.

Eh, not when we have a bag to store the rocks, and probably a bag for the elf rocks, and hopefully a bag for the cape shards. I feel worse for the folks who have been doing each of those one part at a time than I do for the folks who can collect all three at once.

PSA: If you put your expert capes into your POH toybox, you'll have to pay 99k to retrieve them. From the box.

Now there's a shitty bug. Did you report that? I highly doubt it was intentional.

  15. The only tips you need for fight kiln is this:

    - Waves 10, 20, 30 stand north of middle rock.

    - Wave 34 stand south of middle rock.

    - Wave 35 stand north of middle rock.

    - Wave 35 stand south of middle rock.

    - Stand in a corner for wave 28, bring a pickaxe, dreadnips and kill the dills going around the outside.

    - Use invulnerability crystal at the beginning of every jad wave mentioned above.

You should have no issues aside from wave 36 if you dont dps down both jads fast enough.

If you have prayer switching issues just safe spot at the beginning of the wave with protect range on. Have both protect range and mage set on your action bar. Start each jad fight telling yourself "if he raises up hit the key under finger X/number #." If he switches attacks then do what you told yourself for range prayer.

    Side note:

Using full obsidian reduces damage by 55% making jad hit no higher than 5k. Make full use of the elite karamja fight cave death bonus and phoenix necklaces.

Eh, I'd still recommend reading over a full guide before doing Kiln, especially as to how exactly the Dills work (it doesn't matter how much damage you'd do while breaking through their armor, it just matters how many times you hit them - each hit has a chance to crack the armor. So, Fury is your friend!) and what order you should kill things in. But yeah, the safe spotting, knowing where stuff spawns, and invulnerability crystals for Jad make it pretty easy.

  17. The one thing that deters me from doing Jad, despite having the gear and levels; is time. For me, it would take well over an hour and if I make one little slip, I have to start ALLLLLL over again, for a cape (that in today's standards isn't that great) and nothing more. It's like a punch in the dick.

For what it's worth, it's waaay easier now than it was when I first did it. And, as long as you aren't wearing terrible armor, it takes more than one slip to die at Jad. Grab a sign of life for your pocket slot and one or two portents of restoration, use ancients (ice and blood spells) and ganodermic or sea singer and an aura or two of your choice, and make liberal use of prayers and abilities to conserve supplies on your way there (Sacrifice, Guthix's Blessing, Regeneration, Soul Split - these all save you food. Just don't try to Soul Split while fighting Jad, heh.)

If you view it less as "my reward is a fire cape which is pretty meh" and more as "my reward is access to the Fight Kiln to get the best capes in the game", it's definitely better. (Fight Kiln is ezpz in comparison, seriously. You get to heal back to full between each wave thanks to safespots and Regeneration, you know where everything spawns, and you have the crystal buffs for the hard waves.)

All that being said, yeah, it's a pretty big time sink if you get to Jad and can't learn fast enough to keep up, and that's why I want to see Jad in any practice mode that gets released. Har-Aken I'd include just because there's no reason to include one and not the other, but honestly, Har-Aken is far, far, easier.
