[spoiler=Newspost by Jagex]

- Along with the release of the new website, we will be making hi-scores a members-only feature. This is for a number of reasons, but the main one is to keep them fresh. We want the hiscores to feature players who will compete with each other, tooth and nail, for hiscore glory. There are many dormant accounts within the hiscores that have not played for a very long time, and this will give new arrivals in Gielinor a shot at hiscore fame alongside the grizzled veterans on equal terms for all.We want the hiscores to reflect the full range of content that RuneScape has to offer, and hope that they will be a big draw to the full, members’ game for those interested in high-level RuneScape competition on a level playing field.

So, the end of F2P list as we know it, appears to be coming upon us in about a week. Thoughts?

I don't play RS for hiscores, just to chillax.

In the end, it doesn't matter. You guys are all devoted f2p players, it should stay that way.

It's just sad though, Jagex is hating more on f2p by the second... no way am I ever paying.

I'm not planning on getting Membership because of this, nor do I play "for ranks", as you put it. But that doesn't mean that every F2P player should be "stripped of their ranks" (epic terminology, I know), since they have worked countless (and I do mean countless, in some cases especially) hours, and should get some recognition for it. Just my opinion.

Why play a game without any goals?

Highscores was the only thing that kept me entertained about this game...

Not aiming for the best rank, just getting xp records & such... goodbye to that now huh...

I honestly feel like getting P2P or simply quitting... Not that anyone will ever notice if I quit when there's no HS lOl...

I feel with you bro, I am P2P but yet this makes me [bleep]ing angry, [bleep]!

I'm still not quitting either but I can't help but feel that this is totally unfair. They should honestly just make an F2P hiscores or something if they think that we're "cluttering" the existing one. This is sad and incredibly disappointing.

There go my chances of ever making the list.

...hey, it could have happened eventually. :P

THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P.

So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...

Will people who were first to/first page 200m ranks who went ftp lose their ranks? Jagex, that's (bad) :(

Number 1 free multiplayer game, is saying:

[bleep] off ftpers, you're cluttering up our ranks.

Okay.

Let's not despair, but this list is done for, same with the XP records and keeping track of F2Pers with 200M skills if they do not listen to the negative feedback most players seem to be giving on this matter and I hope Jagex changes their mind.

No, it probably means if they lose membership they "disappear" But if they buy back membership they get the rank back. (So they might lose perma-ranks if it happens. depends on how their internal rating system works. Hopefully it is smart and if they come back and pay again then they get back the perma rank)

Honestly, there should just be 2 or 3 categories of highscores. Members, Pure free to play, and Both mixed.

That way we can still have things like the top 250 F2P highscores without "cluttering" the membership highscores.

But oh wait, that doesn't increase membership.

TBH I doubt about playing rs at private servers.

It's basically the same game but then appearantly not the real one, but at least it got highscores and no bots and so on and on and on?

rs got no bots

And no hiscores, but RuneScape most likely will get bots again, while private servers won't.

As of currently, the Top 250 F2P List will be archived and done with, the last update of which has occurred on November 11, 2011 unless the Lite HS can still be accessed or stats of all players on the list can be accessed in some way. There is no information as to whether or not this will be made available.

Regardless, I, Isthatok, will henceforth resign as the Top 250 F2P Skill Total Memberlist maintainer. Should the list still possibly exist after the update (projected November 22, 2011) then I will continue to update the list until I step down on January 1, 2012. Otherwise, the List will cease to exist and become archived.

A few threads to support.

I'm confident that Rune$cape will cease to be known as a popular MMORPG by 2013. As for myself I do not personally care what happens as I have already stopped legitimately playing Rune$cape, but I speak for the multitudes who feel cheated.

As the Pure F2P Community we stand united no matter the circumstances, and we all still have each other to share in gaming experiences.

I will follow someone's advice and take a scrn shot of my stats to commerate what I accomplished. But I will still play the game. It would feel such a lost without the list and highscore was a driving force for me to stay f2p and compete with other f2p. I will still play, but lost respect for Jagex and perhaps spend some time talking to other f2p in the top f2p clan chat.

a happy Runescaper

So, I was looking at the RSOF a bit when I stumbled upon a thread titled something like "NO F2P HS = LAZY JAGEX" at about exactly the same time that I was thinking exactly what the thread-maker was saying in the thread, which I will now restate.

The reason that Jagex is making the highscores members only is, according to the newspost, to keep rankings "fresh" by weeding out inactive accounts. But, there seems to be a very simple way they could do this while still including accounts without membership. They obviously keep track of when you last logged into the game ("You last logged in X days ago from..." message from the lobby). It seems to me like they should be able to easily code the highscores to not include accounts that haven't logged in for a certain amount of time rather than just make it membersonly.

This leads me to the conclusion that either:

(a) Jagex are too lazy to do this alternative

OR

(b) This is just another somewhat-dishonest ploy to try to get more subscribers

Hi-score Changes - FAQ

QFC: 16-17-732-63382107

"Both F2P and members are adverse to this update. How did you come to the conclusion that we may like it?!

Removing bots from the hi-scores is very popular and the way that we are doing it is the most successful approach that there is. "

So everyone who is not paying will sort of be treated like a bot...

"Are you aware that this is likely to break the F2P community? It will no longer be competitive and fun.

We believe in one overall RuneScape community and it is its integrity that we are concerned about. We we are convinced that it is the right decision for the overall community to limit hi-score rankings for the people who actually compete and not ones who are dormant or botted. "

I'm sure they know about this list and all, they just DON'T CARE about F2P anymore (not even sure if they ever did).
