I was merely mentioning what I believe to be a fact that the saying was commonly used to refer to America in this country. "Love the country, hate the people" which is not just limited to America and can also be used in reference to France. You my friend, are going down. It wasn't enough to insult the americans, but you also had to throw in France, great job. Have you even lived in France young man? Do you even speak french? I know the uneducated have that view on France: "They are snobs, self-centered, arrogant, etc". That was probably true, 40 years ago that is. Want to know the truth? The French are very intelligent people, who value highly good language and knowledge, they have very strict schools, they are very eccentric, and fun-loving, especially when it comes down to food. And this opinion of mine, unlike yours, is based on facts, I lived most of my childhood in France, moved to Quebec Canada with my immediate family, and I still go back to France a few times a year to meet my family. So really, you all, stop making judgements on cultures and countries. It really pisses me off when everyone says stuff like 'I hate the French'. Most haven't ever been to france, or if the have it was to paris on a school trip. Its completely illogical and stupid. And you think that's not what goes on? Then you aren't anything different. Every politician will use statistics that crime is going down, but it's not. I don't care if you show me hard facts, I've seen it. And if these things only happend in Manchester then you can do what most people do and seclude it. "Oh you haven't seen the rest of the country". Oh ok. That makes it alright. The fact that drugs and illegal weapons flood communties is ok because the rest of the country has nicer places. I'm sorry how blind and ignorant can i be? Get real. There are drugs in every town and village in the country, that doesn't mean it affects your life and it certainly doesn't mean you have to be involved in it. I recommend visitng places in Central London like Covent Garden, Picadilly Circus, Oxford St. etc... That is a picture of one of the thousands of war graves in France that have been desecrated with "ros beefs" and/or swastikas in the last few decades. It was not a comment on the spelling. As far as unjust things in the world go, French people vandalising the graves of the British soldiers that died for their freedom is pretty much at the top of that list. "rotis de boeuf" touched a nerve with me and I thought I'd remind everyone where that saying is most poignant. As for the rest of your post, you've completely lost me. It's livley, cultured, fun, theres tonnes of things to do, theres hardly any crime, theres lots of history, the shopping has become like you would expect in London if not slightly better. So when this guy says Manchester is a hell hole he must live somewhere different from where I do. There are a few areas that have a bad reputation like any city and those are currently going through huge re-development plans by the councils. And to be honest, the center of Manchester since it's continuting re-development has become nearly on par with cities like Paris. It's a great place to live, and in my opinion lots better than London. With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. The real Manchester is in the suburbs. Anyone who thinks different should take a 5minute drive through Hathershaw/Limeside and if your car actually makes it through without having all its tires popped on the glass shards in the road you will not want to be driving through there in a hurry.
