Ranged ~ New Cheap Methods (Discussion/Research) *40k xp/hr*

mugged99

Recommended Posts

Introduction: Due to the infinite amounts of supplies now in runescape shops, old weak ammo can now be used to train range. My RSN is 'Mugged99' and I'd like to show you some numbers:

[hide=Introduction]

List of Ammo tested:

Bronze Knifes

Bronze Arrows + Magic Short Bow

Bone Bolts + Dorgeshuun x'bow

Bronze Bolts + Runite x'bow

~Only the bronze ammo is cheap in the shops and the most likely candidate for power-leveling range.

Other Prices:

Iron Knives - 58 ea

Iron Arrows - 20 ea

Broad Arrows - 90 ea[/hide]

[hide=Gear, Statistics, THE TEST]

Statistics:

Range Level: 92 (all tests)

Style: Rapid (all tests, duh)

Special: If weapon had special, I used it whenever bar filled

Gear: gearao3.png

[hide=list of equipment]

archer helm

glory amulet

black dragonhide top

black dragonhide bottom

ranger boots

"barrows" gloves from rfd quest

archer ring

zammy book

weapon: depended on test,

ammo: depended on test

cape: no cape for tests[/hide](Please note: The weapons and ammo i used changes so i didnt list those. And obviously you cant wield unholy book whilst using a bow.

THE TEST: I tested all the ammo at King Lathas's Training Grounds killing caged ogres (lvl 63). I power leveled all the ammo tests, meaning I crazy ranged the ogres, not picking up ammo, not picking up drops, not watching TV, just hit after hit, ogre and ogre, non stop. No ava's accumulator was used because it is not known how the accumulator actually works with different range levels. Other details in individual results.

[/hide]

[hide=Bronze Knifes!]

Range Bonus: +99

Max hit: 10

Bronze Knifes: 14 gp ea (rogue's den, burthope pub underground)

Test: I shot 1000 bronze knifes non-stop at ogres, it took me 21:33.92 minutes to shoot all 1000 bronze knifes.

Results:

Estimated range exp/hour rate: 46,953

Estimated hp exp/hour: 15,574

Estimated gp lost/hour: 38,951

Comments: This is the fastest way using a non-pest control method that i tested. The knives very fast. Naturally if you're wealthy enough, higher level knives will produce an even better range xp/hour[/hide]

[hide=Bronze Arrows + Magic Short Bow!]

Range Bonus: +156

Max hit: 11

Bronze Arrows: 7 gp ea (arrows shops like varrock, or rimmington)

Test: I shot 500 bronze arrows non-stop at ogres, it took me 15:28.35 minutes to shoot all 500 bronze arrows.

Results:

Estimated range exp/hour rate: 37,289

Estimated hp exp/hour: 12,374

Estimated gp lost/hour: 13,572

Comments: This method is definitely not the fastest and is not recommended. They magic short bow has a special though.

[/hide]

[hide=Bone CrossBow + Bone Bolts!]

Range Bonus: +137

Max hit: 18

Bone Bolts: 4 gp ea (underground lumbridge, in cave goblin shop)

Test: I shot 500 bone bolts non-stop at ogres, it took me 21:03.19 minutes to shoot all 500 bone bolts.

Results:

Estimated range exp/hour rate: 40,753

Estimated hp exp/hour: 13,542

Estimated gp lost/hour: 5,700

Comments: The bone crossbow hits extremely hard, and the bolts cost almost nothing. The bone crossbow has a special. The bone crossbow costs 2k gp and is bought in the lumbridge caves same as the bolts. This might be an alternative to expensive ammo for use in the fight caves whilst going for a fire cape![/hide]

[hide=Runite crossbow + Bronze Bolts]

Range Bonus: +185

Max hit: 12

Bronze Bolts: 3 gp ea (you can find bronze bolts in the varrock range shop)

Test: I shot 100 bronze bolts non-stop at ogres, it took me 5:09.30 minutes to shoot all all bronze bolts. I only shot 100 bolts because it was so slow i decided to quit, and the numbers don't lie.

Results:

Estimated range exp/hour rate: 26,770

Estimated hp exp/hour: 8,892

Estimated gp lost/hour: 3,491

Comments: Horribly slow, with bad exp rate and no special. Highly not recommended ever for training.

[/hide]

[hide=PEST CONTROL - rough data]

PEST CONTROL!!! (2 GAMES!!! VETERAN)

Stats: 92 range (492.8 exp/point), +99 range bonus (using brronze knives) at pest control veteran (lvl 100+) boat

Results: (played 2 successful games) 1485 xp in game (thats 345.5 damage average) + 8 points in 4:56 from start of 1st game to end of 2nd game

ESTIMATED EXP/HOUR (veteran)65,128 EXP/HOUR(hitting 300+ per game on veteran boat with successful wins)

GOLD WASTED: I wasted 490 coins worth of bronze knives, but since im level 108, i gained 1,080 gp, so thats a profit of 590 coins, so avg profit/hour = 7080 gp (depends on ammo, and combat level obviously)

I did not do the novice or intermediate boats but i still calculated a number ->

INTERMEDIATE (lvl 70-99) assuming you have *75 range* and hit 300 damage per game:

EXP/HOUR = 37,209 exp/hour (75 range, 2 successful games, 300+ damage, used pc points on 100 mark for 10% extra xp)

NOVICE:Here are the numbers for novice (40-69) assuming you have *60* range and hit 200 damage per game:

EXP/HOUR = 19,737 exp/hour (60 range, 2 successful games, 200+ damage, used pc points on 100 mark for 10% extra xp)

[/hide]

Comments Please!

Darkbow is known to be equal or much slower training than Magic short bow.

I was about to make a topic on this as well. I suggest you do the following test (I don't have the gear to test)

How much XP you get from 100 of the following projectiles, as well as timing how long it takes to use them.

Bronze arrows

Broad arrows (55 slayer required)

Bronze knives

Steel knives

Bronze bolts

Bone bolts (must use dorgeshuun crossbow)

After you get the XP rate with those, someone should perform the same test with the void ranger set. You'd have significantly less accuracy but way more power, and you would be training on rock crabs which have very little defense, so it wouldn't matter. You'd just be doing more damage. Experiments would be another alternative.

Wish I had a void set to test it out :\

Another test that could be done could be to fire 100 projectiles and count how many shots you actually use up until you're completely out of projectiles (meanining, use the accumulator), though I dunno if different projectiles are more prone to breaking than others, and I don't know if higher range level means less broken projectiles. Oi so many factors

Just a little experiment I conducted. Small, maybe not the most rounded numbers because I did so few. But gives you a rough estimate. I didn't factor in time though.. my bad.

I'm gonna say bronze knives are the best. While they are 6x more expensive for only 7k more XP an hour - a person like me going from 75 to 99 range would have to spend ~8M on bronze knives, but only ~1.5M on bone bolts (this is excluding the accumulator factor). However, you'd save about 50 hours of training by using bronze knives. Assuming you make your money back by earning 300k gp an hour via RC'ing or something, that means if you spent 50 hours RC'ing, you'd end up with 15M, which is almost double the amount of money you would have saved originally. Thus, bronze knives are the better choice.

Now to get a void set and compare 100 bronze knives with and without the set.

...Arg just realized I'd have to use the medium PC boats. I wonder if the 20 hours or so spent getting the void set would justify the extra XP/hour :-k
