Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Call of Duty 4 is the most intense and enjoyable game I've played (its also the first online FPS i've played :D ). I enjoyed a couple of the past games (COD2 on gamecube, COD3 on Wii.). Both games have incredible gameplay and graphics. Discuss the game (on any console) on this thread, post your pwnage, and give out hints about this groundbreaking game!

Random news on the game:

Goods about COD4:

-Moving away from WWII battles, now taking place in more modern times with realistic weapons.

-online multiplayer is super fun. I've never played a multi player shooter on the internet so this new experience is awesome for me! The game is also being called perhaps the best shooter of the year and is being compared to games like Halo (and not in the overrated sense!)

Setbacks

-Thankfully, only one small issue. COD fans know that the single player is rather short. You can beat the entire thing in under 5 hours. The COD4 is just as short single player. But it makes up for this with its always-surprising multiplayer.

I got the game a while back. Beat the story mode, man was it awesome! so realistic and nonstop action... I enjoyed every minute. Now I'm now moving on multiplayer (for and loyal CoD player, we know story mode isnt known for its length, but the multiplayer makes it never end!). With the constant action and shooting, it never gets boring.

Feel free to discuss and ask questions or rate this awesome game!

Frequently asked questions:

-What is Prestige mode?

Answer: [i have not gotten to prestige yet so here's what i learned from better gamers lol] prestige mode is obtained after reaching lv 55 (technically its lv 56) in the multiplayer. you are asked to restart with level 1 again (that means trading all your weapons and earned things) and get a neat symbol next to your name. There are 10 levels of prestige mode (meaning you have to restart your multiplayer adventure 10 times!) and according to top players, there are no special rewards for beating all the prestige mode levels besides the neat symbol. basically its good for people who enjoy levelling and consider "beating" the game to have been too easy.

-My game won't connect to the servers!

Answer: I had this same problem. according to the helpful players I asked, there are several steps (this info is for windows only):

1. Make sure you have the latest COD4 patch downloaded. (you should be asked to auto update when you run the multiplayer). also make sure you have the latest version of PunkBuster (it should auto update itself, but make sure)

2. Start>>control panel>>allow a program through windows firewall. Make sure the Call of Duty 4 file is allowed through the firewall. also see if Punkbuster is allowed through

3. If it still doesn't work, make sure to be playing on an administrator account. that worked for me!

[hide=story mode spoiler!]-In the One Shot One kill level, I shot Imran Zakhiav [bad spellings]. in the final level, guess who returns? Imran Zakiav! what happened?

Answer: One of the things the game didnt clarify was where you shot him. no matter where you shot him, the game says you shot his arm and didn't kill him. In the final level, Zakhiav's arm is missing. That means he didn't die when you shot him.[/hide]

-Is COD4 a Wii game as well?

Answer: Nope. even if it was, gameplay would be rather difficult because of the Wii remote. Wii suxors for FPS but is ownage for everything else.

-I'm new to these kinds of games. what is the important terminology?

answer:well for starters, this game is an FPS, meaning a first-person shooter (you're playing through the shooter's eyes). Two other common terms for FPS's are nades and campers. Nades is short for grenades, and if you don't know what a grenade is you can put you're little AK47 away and go play MapleStory. Campers (probably originating in early CounterStrike days) are players who "camp" out at common respawn points for players. they may crouch or lie prone under the cover of objects like stairs and garbages or just stand near a respawn and rack up kills by shooting unexpecting players who happen to spawn in front of them. remember to watch out for these people when you spawn or you'll die the moment you respawn. Finally, you might notice peopel saying "gg" after a match. that just means good game. TDM is team deathmatch and FFA is free for all. I thinks that all you need to know for now on the gamer slang subject.

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

Not the best platform to play it on, but I have it on my Nintendo Ds.

The graphics are very nice seeing as it is running on a DS, but it basically plays as an on-rail shooter which can get quite repetitive. The only multiplayer mode is local sadly. You aim with the stylus, run with the d-pad.

GC 2007: Call of Duty 4 DS Details

An FPS for the Touch Generation.

by Daemon Hatfield

August 23, 2007 - Activision was giving demonstrations of the DS iteration of Call of Duty 4 in its business center today, and we've got a few more details to report on how the first-person shooter plays on Nintendo's handheld. We already wrote a pretty glowing preview, and after some more time with the game we're happy to report it is still impressing us.

You play a member of a team that is providing support to the squad in the PC and console version. The story runs parallel to its bigger counterpart, but all the levels will be new. There are 11 in all, and they're broken up into sections that Activision says plays more like 15 levels. Developer n-Space also hired a different composer, so new tunes will be providing the soundtrack.

As we reported earlier, the stylus controls your aiming on the touch screen. But the bottom window also displays your map, which shows the lay of the land, your teammates, and enemies, who will flash red when shooting. A horizontal compass runs along the top of the screen, pointing out the direction of your current objective. Pressing left and right on the D-pad allows you to strafe, and it's fairly easy to circle strafe with a mix of the D-pad and stylus. Your character will automatically melee if you get close enough to an enemy.

The rail shooting sections in a Black Hawk helicopter play very much like similar parts of GRAW 2. Lots of voiceover is being included in the game, including audio objectives given to you by NPCs and loads of battle chatter.

The development team is still ironing out the multiplayer games, but so far deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, and a flag variant called Iron Man (where one player holds onto the flag for as long as they can) have been confirmed.

Call of Duty 4 DS is set to release alongside its big brother on November 5. This is one handheld port that is looking like a really nice complement to the console/PC version.

Some screens:

I don't think i will get this game after the impression coD3 left on me

Yes COD3 sucked but Treyarch made that call of duty game.

Infantry Ward made COD1, COD2, and now COD4. That's why these were all good games while cod3 sucked balls.

Anyway, I got the game last night and I agree with the reviews, the game is awesome :) . I don't see anything they could have done better. Well, having you customize your own weapons like Crysis wouldn't be bad.

The story line is amazing for a fps and I'm not even done playing the game yet.

I just beat the single player. It was about as long as COD2 single player but was a lot better. It had a mix of everything, sniping (a whole level where you need to be stealthy and sneak past tons of troops), huge battles like in COD2, and some strategy mixed in.

I started the multilayer right after that and it's amazing. The best multiplayer I have played in years. The perks and ranks make it even better. Even with the perks that people have over others, cod4 is still balanced between everybody.

I like this game a lot more than the Crysis demo so far. It's a fast paced game which is more my style.

I rented it a few days ago since I'm poor and have no money, and dang, this game rocks. Right now I've only been playing the singleplayer mode, and this game is very, very good. I loved the Chernobyl level and how you had to actually be stealthy to complete it, and so far this game is everything I expected it to be. Hopefully I can get this for Christmas along with Xbox Live and check out the multiplayer everyone's raving about. It would be better if I could buy it, but I'm poor and have no money.

Marytdrop is the best ability ever! I gotten soo many kills with it, I'm top 2k in the scores and a lv 55, guess what you get at level 55, and no not prestige mode

Don't you know the first rule of MMO's? Anyone higher level than you has no life, and anyone lower than you is a noob.

People in OT eat glass when they are bored.

What do you guys think, should I buy this or Gears Of War for my PC? I've never played GoW before but it looks awesome, but I also really enjoyed CoD 2 (especially the multiplayer) and the CoD 4 demo.

GoW was awesome...for a while, online multiplayer is crapped up and it really wasn't as fun for as long as games like halo 2, and the play is much slower than CoD and halo coz of the cover, etc.

Definitely CoD 4, has an awesome campaign as well.

I ordered CoD4. I read some forum threads about it and everybody's really praising the multiplayer as well as the campaign, and that's what I'm looking for at the moment. GoW might be a great singleplayer game but I haven't heard anything great about its multiplayer. So I'm gonna get GoW with... other, and significantly cheaper, means.

What is prestige mode? I have heard people talking about it in COD4 but still don't know what it is.

Anybody know what the highest level that you can reach is?

But at least gears has an awesome story and when it starts it doesn't stop till its over.

Contrary, gears has a horrible storyline. Perhaps you mean the backstory, or the setting, which is interesting. But the storyline in the game itself is somewhat idiotic. The redeeming grace is that it's wickedly entertaining.

Anyway, I'm curious about CoD4. Back when I first heard of it, I thought it was just another game in the wave of semi-futuristic war games like World in Conflict, Tom Clancy's Endwar, etc. But now I hear that it's the best shooter of the year, which makes me interested.

Dilemma is, Mass effect or CoD4?....

Life is a joke. Yeah, I don't get it either.

Umm... quick question guys. I've been working through the story mode and decided to try out multiplayer. So I checked it out but found a problem. When I clicked Join server (i have cod4 for my laptop btw), i got a blank lost of servers. How can I join a game? Do I have to beat the story mode first? or did I just happen to stumble upon the game when all the servers were empty?
