10 December 2007 - ALL Updates!

I figured it out! Jagex is trying to make their updates as unappealing as possible so they can get the majority of people to stop subscribing to RS. Then, once more are leaving than coming in, Jagex plans to post a "regretful message" on the front page stating that they had to take the game off-line. Then, a week or two later, they will release MECHSCAPE. :boohoo:

I think the new updates are great. If real world trading is a big enough problem that they're making all these updates, and are willing to risk losing a lot of players because of it, then RWT must be a HUGE problem. And it's better to deal with the problem rather than let them run the game.

More F2P bank space! Woot! I can finally keep my zombie outfit so I don't keep getting the boots and shirt over and over... trying to level prayer was so annoying.

The annoying thing is, when the grand exchange first came out, I was using it to get rid of some stuff in my bank... so I had more space already :x

Oh boy...

I just bought two months membership, I'm starting to wish I had actually listened to some of the "crazy" speculation threads. I am quite annoyed, some of my favourite things to do have been ruined and I don't know whether Jagex will fix them. Dking for me is a great source of cash and fun, but now I won't be able to do it with friends and I guess my drop party for 85 Slayer wil be called off.

I don't usually rant but I'm struggling to find some good in this update, yey for F2P bankspace? :|

Well, I suppose this will be OK, but no more giving friends all of your items when you quit, no more gifts, no sharing monster profits equally, no more merchanting...

We'll see how this goes; it'll be interesting. I think that the boss monster drop sharing is going to end up for the better, using lootshare, and just keeping the items that you get.

We'll just see how this goes though...

If you go there good things will transpire.

Jagex deserve a lot of respect and kudos for tackling such a difficult problem as Real World Trading. They've done a tremendous job and it's great to read the full explanation behind their thinking.

I can't think of a single other game that has gone this far to stop cheaters.

Popular activity New way of performing activity

Helping other players train their skills Assist System

Fighting other players to win their drops Bounty Hunter

Fighting other players to win money Duel tournaments

Fighting other players for fun and glory Duel Arena is now free, and also Clan Wars

Trading items with other players Balanced trades OR the Grand Exchange

Keeping an economy where the player determines the prices (based on supply and demand) Grand Exchange

Looking after the items of a friend who has died Gravestones

Sharing monster drops when fighting together LootShare

Having enough room to store stuff, instead of getting your friend to hold it for you Extra bank space

Hosting drop parties Using the party room which we moved to the free world for this purpose

That pretty much sums it all up.

Well done Jagex! \'

because other games aren't that stupid to waste time, money, and lose a lot of other players at the cost of something that barely even affects anyone.

As far as I am aware, no MMO has ever taken such drastic measures in order to stop RWT. By the looks of things, Jagex might have actually succeded.

But at what cost? I am all for the abolation of RWT, but I think they have gone too far. Is the he upheaval of Runescape a price worth paying? In the past, I have supported many controversial decisions made by Jagex but I cannot totally support a change of this magnitude.

I might give Jagex some credit though, they have some guts for seeing this through to the bitter end.

This is bad.....although I never PK anyway, so many bad points there. Surely revenants will be far worse than Pkers ever were? At least you could hide from Pkers on empty worlds or taking different routes etc.

Hmmm....

I need a new siggy, get round to doing it later.

Probably.

Never once have I lashed out at the "great" think-tank that is Jagex, but as I sit here reading this in second block..I want to cry. The crazy conspiracy theories have became reality. This is..not quite Sparta, I'm afraid. Just thinking of all the minor inconvienences which await me makes me quite dispirited.

Oh wow... Thanks Jagex.

I left for a year, came back, subscribed, hoping it will get better, and boom! What do we have left?

You crushed Drop parties.

You practically destroyed the Wilderness with your monsters who strike 30s at unsuspecting victims.

You killed the trade system by stopping kind people who want to lend you some stuff you need and...

You have given me half a mind to quit, with or without your summoning skills.

Good job jagex! What will you do next? =;

One day, when I look back on all this, I'm going to think to myself:

What the buck was I thinking?

If they want end RS then they will let bots and RWT to do it and not fight against it...

ouch! This is a pretty heavy update, and although I suspected that this eventually would happen, I didn't think that it would be like this.

Generally, I do not mind the update too much. RWT was a problem which clearly required drastic measures to solve, including how the wilderness worked (otherwise people would just die to trade their gold). However the things that do annoy me are:

1) monster killing;giving money/items to friends;3k trade limit. The incentive for going to DK's/KQ/GWD etc are almost nothing now. Your friends can't pick up your gear and you have to go all the way back to get your own stuff and you cannot split the financial reward from an item. I really hope that this changes soon (but I cannot think how this might happen under the current system).

2) This is also the end of free trading. Let us say that a new weapon comes onto the market. How much does it sell for? Who decides the prices? At least there were forums to auction stuff before until the prices stabilize. Now Jagex has to define a trade price for that item before they release it otherwise noone will be able to sell it (due to the 3k trade limit), and pretty much all trades will have to go through the GE.

3) all rares will have to go through the GE. At least the limit is +/- 5% not +/- 3k.

I think that it is a shame the actions that they have had to take, but the fault lies with the people who buy in-game money, and the bots, rather than the company itself.

Why couldn't they do this sooner?! I wouldn't have to dish out xmas presents! (just kidding)

I think Jagex has lost touch with reality on this one. If you lose control of macroers, you write better code which prevents them from being used with your program. If you are unable to do that, you fire the incapable programmers and hire the ones who actually have the degree and motivation to get it done.

As far as gold farmers are concerned... this issue is far more complex. Just because someone cannot speak english doesn't mean they are a gold farmer. Perhaps limiting the experience people could get in a certain amount of time and preventing them from working on the skill any longer would have helped. Then running reports to locate accounts which have many one sided trades would help remove those issues. (As a tech company, I'm certain Jagex has reporting functions available... if not, fire more people)

As far as the wilderness is concerned, Jagex messed with it when going from RSC to RS2, and this is the natural progression to basically eliminate it from the game. I certainly could care less about the wild anymore, but those clans and individuals who pked will.

Andrew certainly isn't in charge any longer.

Personally i think Jagex have done a better job of this than the duelling arena update. They gave us no warning, no reason for that; this time they haven't had me foaming at the moath, partially because i knew it was coming, but partially because they were more open and explained why, how , when , who , what and where.

Still, i don't like what the effects it has on me, but i can see why their doing it, and now they're doing it in a better way than the duelling update.

Atleast it proved my speculation right. In your face sceptics! \'

Yeah...Some people just go out of their way to ruin other peoples fun.
Sounds like Jagex to me...

My biggest complaint is with the 3K trade limit. Now there is no possible way for high level/income players to give their friends their stuff when they leave the game. The only possible way to do it is to have a party in the party room, at non-peak hours, in an empty server, and hopfully no on sees that there is a 100mil drop part happining in 20 minutes. This was one of the best parts of runescape, helping out your friends, and now there is no efficient way to do that (besides skill "helping"). I havnt cared about a single update that people claimed ruined Runescape until this one. This ruins the team feel of the game and seriously makes me want to switch to playing WoW, Halo 3 or CoD4 much more. It makes no sense to hurt the team aspect of Runescape so much, it is what made it what it is today.

It seems to me that the newest thing will be people selling their accounts online instead of their gold. I'm sure someone will figure out a way to sell accounts safely away from Jagex control. You dont have to use eBay for selling your account. Someone will make a specific website to sell Runescape accounts on. My guess is it will be an open forum style market where people log on and sell their accounts. The market determines the price openly. Just a guess, but watch for it in the future, its the next logical path to take.

Also, it was an interesting Dev. Diary too. Everyone should read it word for word if you havn't yet, its a good one.

Hi guys,

Thanks very much for the compliments.

In the past we have been receiving hundreds of messages from players, including hundreds of forum posts regarding the presence of macroers and bots in the game.

With the new updates, the bots will pretty much cease to be. There will also be no item scamming, and no reason for hijackers to steal accounts.

Is it really that bad?

Regards,

Mod *blocked out for his safety*

I guess hes got a point in hackers having no reason to steal accounts. Since the game stinks now
