Young Women in the Media

The Media is comparable only by a pack of ravenous vultures, circling in, ready to devour the scraps of whatever they can find. In the recent past up to the present, those scraps have consisted of innocent, young girls.

Perhaps some women would sell their morales for a cheap buck and a quick shot, but by no means does this mean that all women are like this. Let me say that, not all women are lawless! There are no less or more lawless women than men (Well...maybe less, but in different ways.)

An insanely large amount of pornographic content is teenager porn. The prime ages of pornographic material is between 18 and 21; it would be younger but that would be illegal. Of course, that hasn't stopped people from trying.

Pop culture isn't helping either. Actresses such as Lindsey Lohan, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, all of them are setting a very negative setting for young girls. My sister, who is in 6th grade, has very low self esteem because boys from other grades don't call her 'sexy' or 'hot'. These negative sex icons are only destroying us, by setting poor standards and pretty much saying that a girl isn't worth very much if she isn't sexy. Even in commercials, younger girls are beginning to behave like much older woman, simply because the perversion of their view, turning them more into objects than people.

Our culture is demanding the wrong things from our society's woman. People need to look past the curves and into the heart (And no, I'm not saying to stare at her breasts trying to get a look at her literal heart) start treating girls past their sex appeal and begin to treat them as people with cultured talents and ideals, instead of screw-once and leave them hanging.

I pray to you, speculate the great morales this nation was founded upon, that all people are equal. Just because you may not be as hot as some famous actress does not mean that you're ugly. You can be just as beautiful (maybe even more beautiful, seeing as your not a drug addicted sex-a-holic) as they are.

EDIT: This is largely for American culture, but lightly the Europeans have some similiar problems.

The last time I looked, there were quite a few countries in the world. Perhaps you'd like to narrow down which one you're talking about? It's just a guess but I think there may be "outsiders" who aren't from your country here. :o

It would appear to me that you never address the original point that the media "feeds like vultures, and their scraps are young, innocent women", but you then bash the women for setting a bad example :-k Take some time to think things through before your next topic.

Media really affects all girls, and those whom succumb set bad examples. I thought I made that clear, but apparantly not. I also never said that all women are bad like that, and I also never said that the vultures successfully harvest those scraps. But damned if they don't try.

I agree, and don't forget that men watching it begin to think that it's normal and acceptable and treat women as seen; which only adds fuel to the fire.

Sex sells. That's all that matters. No matter how many people agree with you sex still sells.

His/her point is that "sex selling" is detrimental to human sociology.

I agree with the OP. :)

It's sad that the mass media has no respect for our health and well-being (unless, of course, it affects their profits). So much of the general public is blind to the media's negative effects on the world.

It's interesting to note that the main cause for anorexia and other eating disorders is due to the mass media's "skinny" image of sexy women.

I hate how in wrestling shows like the ECW or the WWE, the only girls there is are little barbies that play as the girl-friends of the male wrestlers. It would be nice to see some real female fighers in there.

(1)Its large because that's the way people like it , hey the girls are paid a large amount of money to do professional porn..

(2) If your still talking about porn.. well that's their job, they need no qualifications to do their job and yet they still get paid higher than doctors.. oh and btw the literal heart means the organ.. so you want me to rip her chest apart and stare at her heart? :-w however even if you take the meaning as her personality, well that's been going around for ages... boy like pretty girl with no brains ugly girl don't get boy, however on contrary I think people are awaking to this and you see more pretty boys with ugly girls and vice-versa..

I COMPLETELY agree with you. :D

I have to say, +1, and I'm a guy. You are one of very few girls I've ever heard say that.

Rappers like Eminem are big fans of "[bleep]-es", or girls that are, like the original poster said, objects. I do not think girls should be treated like that. What I look for in a girl is quite a bit intelligence, like being fluent in more than one language, not pornography.

why do you people think that because a certain number of girls chose the career of a pornography actress or a dancer that they aren't intelligent or are being looked down up on? Last time I heard USA was a democracy and people could make choices.

and all this [cabbage] about 'i dont think girls should be treated like that' well I'm not saying its right but they get paid to do that and they accept it...

Eminem isn't that bad, I'd have said 50Cent, who is infinately worse. Heck I don't think I've ever heard something of his where its doesn't involve "[bleep]-es".

Either way, I agree with the OP, the world is going to hell, infact even newspapers have went down this road, for quite awhile actually *cough*The Sun*cough*.

So far, I'd have to say that this and the other post by Str are the most thought-out posts in this topic.

First of all, Str is right - the assumption that pornography is only a male-based medium is incredibly stereotypical. "It was created for guys"? Not only is that vastly ill-informed and ludicrous, but assuming that only men are interested in pornography, for whatever reason, is downright sexist.

Secondly, I'll again agree with Str on his point that women who choose careers in that field are making an active choice, and bashing that choice is demeaning. Not only have a multitude of assumptions been made already in this topic while talking about this (why are we suddenly assuming that sex-workers are stupid or otherwise of a lower intelligence?), but honestly, examine these posts and tell me that they aren't simply blind speculation. Has anyone on this topic actually experienced any type of work in this field whatsoever? I doubt it. So to automatically assume that conditions are bad, the actors are mistreated, and that it's a generally misogynistic and degrading work field is completely ignorant. You're confusing general pornography with actual abusive subgroups, such as the abuse of children in the medium. Take a look at the link that Str provided - it's one example among many others of women who've made incredible amounts of money through the business.

It's important that I say that I'm not advocating the industry, I just want to clear up the mistakes that are being made on this topic. Before you post a criticism like this, it's important to research the background of what you're talking about first. Taking such a profound stance as to bash the people who choose to make careers for themselves in the pornography business requires actually researching the subject first.

You make a reasonable point in your original post that the general American culture is heading down a dark path towards complete objectification of women, Raven, and on this point I agree with you. But you need to flesh out this point more clearly before putting it into a topic - it's so muddled with ill-informed and incorrect examples that the point you're trying to get across gets lost.

It's sections like this that need actual research before they are brought up. You cannot simply state that people working in the pornography business "sell their morales for a cheap buck" without actually looking at statistics, and the same goes for assuming that "an insanely large amount of pornographic content is teenager porn". I'm not going to rehash what I've already said, but speculation like this makes a bold statement, and when that statement is under-researched and ultimately incorrect, it makes the rest of the post seem less reliable.

Here it seems that you're trying to get at your main point, but again it's muffled by the rest of the paragraph being ridiculous and somewhat offensive. I agree with the statement that young men and women need to stop comparing themselves to pop culture icons, but when you go on to call famous actresses "drug addicted sex-a-holics", it serves to make the rest of the statement seem just as ridiculous. This needs strict examples, clearer points, and less generalization and blind speculation.

This topic really has potential to serve as a serious grounds for discussing the difficulties with self-esteem in the American youth at the hands of popular culture, but it needs some serious straightening out first. We've gone from actually discussing a valid point to criticizing industries that we've had no experience with based on our own guesses and assumptions, and that's a very slippery slope. Before going to a topic, this post should have been edited, clarified, and better researched.
