insanitarium
Meh, I have a lot of free time. I work 10-6 graveyard shift and there's not much to do, so I run, escape, to Runescape!
Dharockslayer
This is the thread I needed. I may finally do my homework instead of jumping right into the chair and logging on to Runescape. Saturday is now my day to hang out with friends. But the thing is, I can't give up on Runescape, because my girlfriend and I talk primarily on the computer (since she is in high school and I'm only in eighth grade [and next year, I probably won't be going to her high school], so I don't see her much =[ ), since both of our parents are on the phones a lot and we don't have cells... And then sometimes, we can't think of anything to talk about, so I minimize the IM and play RuneScape while I think. It also gives me something to achieve, and I like to achieve. No other real reason to play a video game. Anyway, I can't manage time. At all... And I procrastinate terribly... And I'm a good liar. Terrible combination if you ask me... Hopefully I can break the habit. I'll pick up my guitar (either one), or even my flute (although, I barely practise flute playing), or ask people to hang out, or maybe practise martial arts some more (I teach it, I have to be good)... But anything to get me with my friends or doing some other fun hobby is just what I need. And I need more A's in school... My parents get mad even when I get B's on my report cards (I guess that's what I get for having an I.Q. over 140). I'm not quitting RS, but instead, I'll play a bit more RL. I don't regret RuneScape, but I do want to be with my friends more. And you are asking us for help? I have the solution. Stop lying to yourself, get a spine and manage your time correctly. If you are that smart you would probably have thought of this already. And probably thought of a way to get your parents to stop pushing you this hard. ( even though getting A's in 8th grade is a piece a cake, I mean learn 30 minutes and whoop whoop? ) Interrested in joining the cabbagy madness? atestarossa
well... these were the kind of things i realised that made me quit playing... i have played a little on a defence noob i have during the vacation (back in my home place, my friends is somewhere else, and i'm really, really bored), but except that, i haven't played since the summer... it's impressing how much you can do when you don't use the itme to play runescape instead. nutter1988
i understand how u feel, i barely play this at all. Pretty much just went on today to try and do the xmas event (but as i was half way thro buildin a snowman all the snow just disapeared!!!). I cant say i wasted a whole load of my time on this, played a bit here and there over the last few years. But the summer before last i played loads for bout a month, which i was annoyed at my self for at the time, but i think i learnt from it... NeonFire372
One of my friends used to skip school just to play Runescape. I never went that far but I was pretty addicted and spent way too much time playing the game too. Since then I've found it boring and pointless so I quit and just lurk around Runescape forums... Sy_Accursed
To say runescape did this too you is a lie. You did it to yourself. After all it was YOU who lied toyourself You who picked to play rs and not have other hobbies etc. In the end its up to YOU how you balance YOUR life and blaming a game for YOUR failure in making the right choices is just scapegoating Operation Gold Sparkles :: Chompy Kills :: Full Profound :: Champions :: Barbarian Notes :: Champions Tackle Box :: MA RewardsDragonkin Journals :: Ports Stories :: Elder Chronicles :: Boss Slayer :: Penance King :: Kal'gerion Titles :: Gold Statue
runevirage
Runescape is just another activity. Your success in life will be based on your own base ability. I play rs avg 2-3 hrs a day and I have an A+ average, volunteer a lot and do lots of extracurricular. Blaming RS for your disappointments isn't very fair since generally any other activity (even using the washroom, eating/walking slow, daydreaming, napping) would probably consume the same amount of time per day. Georgelemmons
I think you just didn't balance your time well, and got addicted. While most of us are serious players, we don't spend all of our free time playing. I personally have room for tons of other things in my life, and RS is just one part. Thanks to Uno for the awsome sig <
Nenga
You can learn from playing runescape, if you plan to go into that field. It's a waste of time otherwise. We all know it but we still play. Ponies!
maunglord
[hide=quote]While this statement does sound dramatic, it is very true. As I look back on my high school career (I am now a senior) I am extremely depressed at what I see. I spent most of my freshman and sophomore years playing Runescape gaining nothing in the process. In the last year that I have been Runescape-free I have picked up more constructive hobbies such as guitar, drums, reading, hanging out with RL friends, skateboarding, and dating. I am mostly saddened at the fact that I could have begun these hobbies earlier in my life (mainly guitar, drums, and skateboarding) and been much better at them. Another regret is the fact that I didn't do better at school. While I played Runescape nothing else mattered. While I did make straight A's, I was never involved. IN ANYTHING. Now when I fill out college transcripts what do I put down as leadership or volunteer work? I was leader of a monster killing team and gave some money to noobs, nope I don't think that would work out. I've missed out on sports and clubs all of which I believe would have made my life better. I also hate the fact that I lied to myself for two straight years, I told myself that I was gaining decision making skills and math skills. That was bologna and I knew but I didn't want to believe it. Finally what have I gained from playing Runescape? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. My main account was hacked, there goes the first three years (my junior high career) and I quit my second account (my high school career). Runescape has taught me nothing made me no friends, though I have many now that its out of my life. In conclusion, though it is not any of my business what you do with your time, I would advise you to either quit Runescape or consider shortening the amount of time you play a day (I played about 3 hours a day btw and I regret it) bring on the flames..[/hide] Wow...sorry dude. That totally blows chunks. But personally, it's not difficult to not let the game run your life for your entire high school career. I graduated high school in '06 a varsity wrestler and varsity running back, a skater, with plenty of life long friends and a successful romantic relationship, and top 10 in my class of 300+. All while playing runescape. And in the past 2 years, I've learned to play guitar, worked at 2 jobs, and still go to college. All while playing runescape. I'm not flaming you. But it's all about time management. Do I play everyday? NO...not enough hours in the day for that, I have REAL WORLD responsibilities that take priority. But I do play when time permits, granted that means I play next to never except during holidays (ie: winter recess). And runescape has taught me one thing I deem relatively important: supply and demand. Take an economics course, you'll understand (or watch "The Big Idea" on whatever channel they show "Mad Money" {I'm in Vegas, so that's 35 for me}). Small innovations have big effects, merchanting demonstrates that. Think of who the first person was who thought, "hey, I can use the forums to make gp, instead of idle banter," then the first to think (and apply), "hey, I can use this for a system, some sort of 'shop'," followed by, "hey, I can do better than that other shop!" See where it all leads to? It all leads up to all the shops we have that operate today. Granted it's imaginary money, but it opens the mind and ALLOWS for that way of thinking (it also inputs the ideas of cost efficiency, investments, net profits, etc). Apply those to life, and hey, you've got "some sort of 'business'". And businesses make REAL money no matter what service is offered. Lol went off ranting. But it also helps with economical math: cost, returns, and profit margins. But reading what everyone else posted...lmao...I'm still laughing, but most of those points are valid too, the stuff I mentioned above was my personal experience, so I don't expect that to be the norm. O_M_G_Guasto
I play Runescape when I feel like it. Everything else > Runescape. aznmidget448
Sorry to hear that man...I'm know how you feel...i'm glad my dad got me in to track and x-country :-X Lol, I followed the footsteps of my sister and did XC :) I'm curious to hear how long each day ice ring played every day. I personally play 2 hours or less daily (eh, 3 hrs or less if you include the tip.it forum) and I personally think I have done some very nice work in real life. Runescape is a game to me, not an escape from real life. If you can understand runescape that way, it will not get in the way of having friends, joining clubs, or playing sports. I volunteer almost weekly at a local hospital, I run XC during the fall + play tennis during the spring, I play bass trombone in my school's jazz band (made Central districts this year, auditioning for states : ), I'm part of National Honors Society, compete in the local Math competitions, and do some other things. I am pretty happy where I am right now. I guess if you're addicted to the game, you will pay for it in real life, but otherwise, RuneScape can be just a simple thing you do for fun. I believe if you spend over five hours a day playing, you really need to become more active in real life, but that's only me. Please no flaming me for what I just said. I'm sure there are people who play more than 5 hrs a day and have a nice real life, but it's definitely not easy to do.

gameboypen
If I didn't play Runescape, I'd be wasting my time watching tv or playing console games, I prefer this. This is my free time, theres nothing else to fill it besides playing games. Same for me. Something has to fill the void. If something comes up with friends or something more interesting i'll do that instead. But if you are regretting it then it's better to quit, good on ya. db300
IDK about you but I learned a lot of things from runescape.. Like what? I don't know about you, but I've learned nothing from this game...I just play for fun. Back on topic though, I don't play much anymore, and I'll probably quit once I get 1000 total. The main reason for this is that more important things have come up. Sorry to hear that you regret your time spent, I kind of feel the same way. That was bologna and I knew but I didn't want to believe it. Finally what have I gained from playing Runescape? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING Wow.. because through playing runescape I have learned alot. I've learned ALOT more about buisnesses (along lines of merchanting etc), and gotton me more involved into learning about buisness and economics. Decision making skills.. yes.. you do learn them.. You're an idiot if you didn't learn ANYTHING about desision making skills in runescape. Honestly either I learned alot, or I'm lying to myself and I bla bla whatever you said.. And yes there is more, but the main thing is learning merchanting and moneymaking from runescape has gotton me more into Buisness/moneymaking in real life, and given me a better perspective on alot of it. By the way. Its a game.. it's played for fun. You just have to play it the right amount.. not go all hardcore. darkmage099
You shouldve balanced real life with runescape/other entertainments. IDK about you but I learned a lot of things from runescape.. Good job captain obvious. What did you learn? Hahaha...try playing WoW. It won't be your highschool sucked away, it'll be your life. But I know how you feel, same thing happened to me, grades 7-10 were wasted due to Runescape. That's a lie. I quit WoW. It was less addicting that RS. That's your opinion, alright, but I do have one thing to say... In the last year that I have been Runescape-free I have picked up more constructive hobbies such as guitar, drums, reading, hanging out with RL friends, skateboarding, and dating. You cant say those bolded activities be of better value than RuneScape: they're just hobbies. You'll probably gain nothing from playing drums so why do it? Catch me? The underlined ones are debatable to the wise-guy, which, I'll try not to do. Social skills, hand-eye coordination, getting to know people, and that is your future. Clicking on flax and staring at the computer teaches you nothing. Also, dont come back with the RS social skills because it's the internet. To say runescape did this too you is a lie. You did it to yourself. After all it was YOU who lied toyourself You who picked to play rs and not have other hobbies etc. In the end its up to YOU how you balance YOUR life and blaming a game for YOUR failure in making the right choices is just scapegoating I think he knows that...Plus, it's easier to blame RS :P wow your a loser I'm going to college on a $100,000 scholarship, I'm a true loser. slickmovedud
well, i was addicted to runescape for a while in Gr. 5(currently in gr. 8), but after that my account got hakced. Back then all i did was go home do my homework, practising and rs. Then later that summer i made another account. I played it illegeally for till march break of gr. 6. Then i was allowed to play it. Then in gr 7. holidays i was hacked 3 times, lost 1 mil. Made slickmovedud, and played a lot until i took up biking in the summer, which proved more fun than runescape. But i still balance out real life with rs. Now it's winter i x-c ski, and go to shcool. also i not allowed to play rs on shcool days. And in summer, i go to camp for 1 month, and generally go on trip to somewhere (this summer, it was Nahanni :) ) :D

You could be in a band headlining tours from playing guitar and drums. And from skateboarding you could be winning competitions such as the X Games and be sponsored. Also they're much better on the body seeing as your moving around, rather then sitting in one spot clicking away to earn items in a game that won't help you amount to anything. Ah, yes...because you play an instrument you're going to be pro. The probablitiy of that is very high...the average one can do is probably play at some joint somewhere for 70 bucks a weekend night.
