What are your views on a Runescape Girlfriend/Boyfriend?

Ok now I don't mean something like walking up to a random person and saying "Wanna be my girlfriend/boyfriend?" I mean like actually having a relationship before you became boyfriend and girlfriend.

Personally I disapprove. Most cases will be a little kid just wanting money. I mean if you want too I guess you can go ahead and do that, but chances are the girl your "dating" is neither a girl or your age.

Anyways what do you think? Do you think if you guys were friends and stuff or at least talked before you became Boyfriend/Girlfriend its ok?

I won't make fun of anyone for it, but my only opinion on it is this: BE CAREFUL

I know I had one friend who's RS "girlfriend" turned out to be a 10-year old who wanted free gp, and that's the best case scenario on bad things.

I see nothing wrong with it if you've met the person in real life though.

This is a qualified answer...

If you dont know the person, except on RS, then not only is a relationship wrong, it can also be dangerous. That GF could be someone like wacko jacko luring u to neverland ranch. But, if its someone u know in real life, and RS just helps you express yourself, then I say go for it! Its a great way to enhance a relationship

Well I find it sad, that many people that cant find one irl have to do this. I personaly dissaprove it, runescape is a mmorpg to play, not to hook.... it isnt a love chat or that kidn of stuff, and besides love-chatting is against jagex rules in case you dont know. I will never date on rs or even online, the risks are high, persons show fake sides and personalitys, persons lie and you cant know, you could be dating a stalker, it could be a male with a female character, an 8 year old looking for gp.

A close anecdote is a high lvl friend of mine was dating a low lvl girl, one day trought msn, he asked her ofr a pic, she got freaked out, and said no she didnt wanted to give one,(well this part is according to my friend , but I believe him) till she said she would give a pic but that he had to promise he will have to continoue liking her, the result was a pic of like a 25 year old crossdresser (yes I saw it, he sent it to me, I almost puked), after this my friend quit rs,suffered a trauma, so he is now having psycological help.

2nd, I find it rather lame to date on rs, you cant invite your date , to eat, to the cinema, you cant even hug kisss or ...well. But howcome can you love someone who you hadnt even seen his/her face?

Well thats my opinion.

i have heard of a few people meeting, and having a real, legitimate, loving relationship. it would be just like meeting anywhere else. of course, that is the exception to the rule, and a vast majority of relationships started online don't have happy endings. if either party is underage, or if they don't have the most wholesome intentions, then it becomes a huge and dangerous problem. you can never be sure.

like someone before said, be careful, i've gone quite far into runescape/online dating and even when you've known someone for months... you only really know what they've chosen to show you,

i've known people fake death's and lie about ages - one girl i actually met turned out to be nearly old enough to be my mother and had been using all kinds of fake pictures, and i promptly recieved a lot of threatening phone calls and death threats from her husband

however another girl i went to meet her family and her turned out to be some of the lovliest people i've ever met and will always be good friends on mine for many years to come

For one, there's no way of knowing if they're a girl or not unless you meet them in real life. For all you know, the person who's your Runescape Girlfriend may be a 40 year old man or a 10 year old boy who wants phr33 m0n13s.

And also, it's kind of sad. Date someone in real life, not in some fantasy computer game.

There's a line between having a friend over the internet and the small children/older people that approach random people with "be mah bf/gf plawx". Really nothing wrong with it if it's a genuine friendship, because even if it's through an online game, the human contact is there.

I don't really care too much. I think it can be harmful, and it can be perfectly fine.

I'm sure you would all agree that REAL friendships can be formed online, i've a mate I met in WoW coming to visit me in a few weeks from Norway. After 2 years of playing together, and chatting on skype / msn, he's coming to the UK to say hi.

If we can maintain one sort of relationship successfully, cant it be possible for deeper relationships to also exist online?

However, I think caution needs to be exerted - I'm a 20 year old bloke, I can look after myself should this guy i've known online for years turn out to be some sort of weirdo.

With all the kid's playing RS, and all the predators online I think that forming gf/bf relationships are not a good idea. I do believe it's possible to 'love' someone you've never met face to face, but there's also a lot more dangers; aside from the obvious 13 year old Sarah turning out to be 54 year old Gary from brighton, there's also the emotional danger of 'loving' someone who doesn't feel the same about you or is just playing around with your feelings.

And ofc, as a 20 year old bloke, I will always be very careful over what I say/do and am seen to be saying/doing to [ok, potentially] very young girls/boys. It's a testimony to the evil of this world that good people have to be so careful.

I think it's a totally pointless thing to do. You won't ever meet unless it gets really serious-- there really is no payoff. I don't even consider it a real relationship, because it's not really. It's two people possibly thousands of miles away from each other typing to each, but never going to see each other (which differentiates itself from a long-distance relationship).

It's stupid. Try a real social life instead.

The truth of the matter is wheither the person is looking to have a girlfriend for the fact to have a girlfriend, or just the random chance of love. This is what seperates many opinions here...

People who think its quite sad to have a girlfriend online only view relationships as standard and basic: have a girl, hope it works out, if it doesn't who cares. People who are neutral upon the subject, "whatever floats their boat", usually understand relationships can start out anywhere.

The difficult part of online relationships is meeting each other. Granted it is difficult, there are other alternatives. Cell phones, webcams, pictures, letters, theres a bunch of technologies in today's world that allows people to see and hear each other no matter their distances.

Another problem, is that people don't understand that most of the time (the true serious ones) don't stay inside RuneScape. They expand to other sources: webcams, cell phones, etc. It is only a online relationship until they see each other face thru photos, cameras, you name it. Then it just becomes a long-distance relationship.

So Benis you're wrong about them being different, they can converge, Gidion your post is a perfect example on this subject, Stewie if they are serious they would find other ways to contact each other such as FooK's idea, Penny's post is another example how it can go wrong. But, real life relationships can go wrong too, right? That cheerleader may only be teasing the nerd for her and her friends' own amusement. Sweety's post is more of long-distance relationships in general and to debate wheither those work out or not is a whole other debate. If only more people can think like Dutchownage, disagree with it but don't make a hassle about it since it doesn't affect him. Generaldesor, you must understand that relationship can start out anywhere. With a logical brain, no one can get caught by a predo. I agree with AJ Gass whole heartly. Minoture's right, be careful guys. Haha, have to agree with you there Foodmanfood and AWCADDET your thread is more about those spammers. This is about geunine relationships. Lastly,hotshotkid69..you're an idiot.

This is just my personal opinion, but I don't think any online relationship can be authentic. You don't really know for sure who they are or what they look like. And you can say all you want to me about him/her sending you pictures, but that doesn't mean they look like that. Some may think that it's impossible for "you" to get tricked by a pedophile. But doesn't everyone believe that nothing bad will ever happen to them? Anyway, if you've never actually met them in real life, which is probably a bad idea anyway, then it can't be genuine.

Cyber Predators do exist, even on Runescape.

Then get a interactive video, such as a WebCam.

If you fall in love when getting to know each other better while not knowing each others look then it's true love.

However, the possibilitys in a relationship like that are not as big as in real life.

As long as you enjoy what you're doing I suggest to keep that on.

I personally think it's stupid. :/

If you're so desperate as to be looking on an online game for a bf/gf, rather then going outside and meeting real people in person, then, well you're pretty pitiful.

Now, if you met a person on RS and talked and made friends, and weren't actually looking for a date, then that's cool. I just think that looking for a girlfriend on a VIDEO GAME is stupid.

You can be close to somebody on a game, but it's not going to have the same depth as a relationship in real life. Photos and videos don't do much, it's never going to feel the same way as being physically close. Though it's possible that in a 1 out of million chance, somebody somewhere, is going to have the best relationship of their life on RS. For instance, someone with haft of their body paralysed, a dying kid with cancer, a mute, somebody that suicides at 18, are examples of people for who a different truth applies.

Webcams can be faked.

I've seen people go on Webcam, but turn out to be recorded feeds from Stickam.

If you did have to resort to internet dating - use a phone, and always cease contact if they ask for anything remotely sexual.

Saying that, I met my first girlfriend on Neopets (we lasted 2 years), and we were relatively happy. We lived 100 miles apart, but visited every weekend.

I then, seven months after breaking up, met my current girlfriend on the Internet - who happens to live in the same city as me. I see her twice a week.

Runescape dating is a silly idea, though. It's almost as bad as trying to get a girlfriend on Teenchat.
